Apple TV 4K Netflix No Video

Apple TV 4k, Netflix: Audio only, no Video. restored ATV to factory, reinstalled NF app, cable is compliant, AVR settings and TV settings ok as no issue in other apps. Worked fine until today. OS 11.1. everything has been reset, reinstalled, rebooted, and reconnected. Any ideas? NF works fine through the app on the TV as well as the app on the cable box.

The only thing I can add to this conversation is that Netflix and the new TV 4K got along fine for a couple of weeks, we had no issues. Suddenly several days ago after no changes by us (though possible TV 4K update because it's set to auto-update) Netflix video disappeared. Still have audio and sub-titles, but the main picture is black.

As others are reporting, every other app source (YouTube, Crackle, TED, etc.) works fine. Our television is a Sony Bravia 1080p, not 4K.

I just upgraded my TV to 4k with hdr Sony X900E, before I had a 4k LG model with no hdr. Now I have to constantly unplug my Apple TV to watch Netflix, Hulu and amazon even if it’s an hd or lower resolution. ITunes Apple TV works fine, YouTube works fine without a reset.... is there gonna be a fix or firmware update???!!!

Having the same problem here. Screen goes black but I still have audio and subtitles. Looks to be software related primarily affecting Sony TV’s. Originally thought it was my cheap HDMI cable but I’ve been seeing a lot of people having the same problem with multiple, Apple approved cables.

I have a October 2017 build date Sony XBR-65X850E running the latest Android OS. My Apple tvOS is 11.4 (15L577) and my settings are at 4K HDR with 4:2:2 Chroma on a basic/cheap unverified HDMI cable.

Apple, please address this issue.

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried another brand of 4K streamers? I’m just wondering how Amazon, Google, or even Roku devices are fairing in the 4K streaming world. If this is an Apple issue and Apple is refusing to fix the issue, then an alternate streaming device might be the solution. Maybe Apple might take more of an interest if people stopped buying the Apple 4K tv and switched to a competitors streaming device. If anything, Apple should be posting that they are aware of the problem and are investigating it instead of remaining quiet.

Well folks, I think they've fixed it!

Since day one of owning the Apple TV 4k I've had this issue of the video cutting out on my 65" Sony Bravia x900e.

I would have to reboot the ATV every day, sometimes twice a day if there was a long delay between using it.

I've installed the Beta tvOS 11.4.1 (15M5054b) and I haven't had to reboot in 4 days.

So happy, this is working now. Hopefully it doesn't break again when they add all the new features they just announced.

I’m not sure if you are new to the forum, but many people have reported this problem to Apple. Also, by turning off the sleep function seemed to help, and as of the latest iOS 11.4.1 update it appears that the problem may have finally been resolved. I have set my auto sleep function back on as did another person and we have not had any more issues. Have you updated to the latest iOS and tried it? Have you tried turning off the auto sleep function just in case you haven’t updated the iOS?

I second this. I have a Sony X800D and after updating my Apple TV 4K to tvOS 11.4.1 the issue completely disappeared. I'm going a week 7 days straight with no black screens or any other problems. Its been running fine this whole week. I have the auto sleep timer set to 30 minutes and it sleeps and wakes up fine. I highly recommend everyone having problems to update to the tvOS 11.4.1 Beta and see if it solves their issue. I will report back if the problem returns but so far mines running great!
