Apple TV 4K Netflix No Video

Apple TV 4k, Netflix: Audio only, no Video. restored ATV to factory, reinstalled NF app, cable is compliant, AVR settings and TV settings ok as no issue in other apps. Worked fine until today. OS 11.1. everything has been reset, reinstalled, rebooted, and reconnected. Any ideas? NF works fine through the app on the TV as well as the app on the cable box.

The only thing I can add to this conversation is that Netflix and the new TV 4K got along fine for a couple of weeks, we had no issues. Suddenly several days ago after no changes by us (though possible TV 4K update because it's set to auto-update) Netflix video disappeared. Still have audio and sub-titles, but the main picture is black.

As others are reporting, every other app source (YouTube, Crackle, TED, etc.) works fine. Our television is a Sony Bravia 1080p, not 4K.

I have a list at least as long as @felixkas with no luck yet....and my list does include turning off auto sleep.

I have also

- made sure the TV stays on the ATV input when turning off

- made sure the TV switches to a non HDCP port when turning off

- adjusted startup timings of devices in chain to give enough time

- I have no screensaver, no sleep on my ATV

Does anyone else notice that often when this happens, when you wake your system up (even if the ATV is set to never sleep), that the ATV interface has the first icon on the first row selected? It's almost as if somewhere during the time when the TV is off...Headboard (which I believe it what they call the tvOS Springboard) crashes.

Usually when I turn my TV off, I leave the cursor on the ATV on the 3rd or 4th item on the first row, yet when I wake things up, it's on the first item. I have no commands on my Harmony to do anything with the ATV during startup, so I'm assuming that something crashes. Wondering if that is contributing to this.

I’ve been dealing with this same issue with th ATV4k and Sony XBR65A1E. Did same things everyone else has tried including buying the $30 Belkin cable.

For a different reason, I purchased a Marantz NR1508 Receiver and ran everything through it with the Marantz set to Enhanced HDMI and pass through to the TV via. AVR. I’m going on 48 hours, allowing the Apple TV to sleep and the issue seems to have resolved itself. Hopefully it fixed this for me.

For me the first thing I found was to initially turn off the auto sleep feature of your APTV. You can also do a complete restore of your APTV where it will restore to factory settings and do a reinstall of the latest iOS. For me this was the fix that allowed me to let the APTV do auto sleep again. I no longer have any issues now. Some people keep unplugging their APTV which will do the same thing as doing a restart of the APTV. This will work until the next time you try to use your APTV. Hope this helps!!

Just wanted to chime in that I recently got an Apple TV 4K and a new 4K TV (Sony X800E) and I'm having the exact issue being discussed. Occasionally, we'll start watching something (e.g. Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Go) and it will start as a black screen but with audio. Only a reboot fixes the issue. Never had any issues with my Apple TV 3rd gen and previous Panasonic 1080p TV. Apple TV is plugged directly into the TV using the Amazon high speed cable.

I had similar problems that involved crashing, no video, only audio, sparkles, etc. However, I may have found a solution. I believe I encountered these problems when I switched directly from my Sony television's (XBR 900E) apps to the ATV 4K; that is, waking up the ATV while my television was on. Instead, I now use my ATV remote to simultaneously wake up the ATV and the television. There is a slight delay as the television switches to the enhanced HDMI 2 port, but then everything seems to work fine. When I'm finished viewing, I click on Sleep Now , which turns off both the ATV and the television.

I'm not an expert on these matters, but from researching the problem on the net, I think these issues may be related to the ATV's making a "handshake" with the television's HDMI port so that they can work in sync.

Like many of you, I've gone through switching settings, changing cables, rebooting, etc. I hope this helps.

I found a fix to this issue and I believe it has to the due with the refresh rate. I changed the option to match the content refresh rate and now everything works! It seems like my TV is able to do this but when the Apple TV tries to force the content to a certain refresh rate that is when it gets into issues!

I hope this will help a lot of people. I noticed that with certain programming such as Netflix or Hulu they have a different refresh rate. Most TVs either display it at the native refresh rate or they upscale it by interlacing or other creative fashions to add in the additional frames. However I do not know if the Apple TV has that ability! Anyways most TVs should be able to perform a refresh rate from 60Hz and down and most content is less than that.

Cheers!

I had a black screen with sound. I went to Settings > Audio and video > and got a "match content" button. I turned on the audio and video matching buttons and got both audio and video for the first time since upgrading to the ATV 4K. I thought I had broken the code, but the next time I went to watch a Netflix movie, I got the old black screen with sound again. This time, I went straight to the Settings > Audio and video > and there was no match content button. The video was set to 780 ? 60 Hz? and provided other 50 and 60 cycle options, but none that matched content. I tried several with no success. How do I get the "match content" option to reappear? How do I get it to stay "on" permanently once they are set? Is anyone from Apple trying to assist its customers with this issue?

I’m having the same issue with the black screen and just audio. (Apple TV4K & Sony XBR-75X900E). I tried every suggestion on this thread with no luck. The only workaround I found was to program my Harmony remote to reboot the ATV4K as part of my startup sequence. Now I never have the issue, but need to wait a few extra seconds to start things up. I shouldn’t have to work this hard to stream content.

Well I discovered something new....turning off auto sleep does work for me, but just found out that after watching something on AMC I will not have video if I go to watch Netflix without restarting the Apple TV. Apple really needs to get their act together and resolve this issue that is causing this problem. I’m on my second 4K Apple TV and the problem is still there in one form or another with no video.

Apr 10, 2018 5:27 AM in response to Robert Cantrell

Here are my 2 situations:

1) ATV4K set to 4K SDR/HDR: I lose video in netflix after a few hours of not using the system. Doesn't matter if I let the ATV sleep or not. Only a reboot fixes it.

2) ATV4K set to 1080p SDR/HDR: I lose video in netflix after a few hours of not using the system IF I have auto sleep set to any number value. I DO NOT lose video ever in netflix if I disable the sleep function on ATV.

I’m still on iOS 11.3 with my auto sleep turned off and has been for quite sometime now and I have not had to do a restart. I have a 4K Sony Bravia TV. I have noticed that awhile back that when I tried to watch Netflix after watching something on AMC that I did have to do a reset. This has happened a couple of times to me which is different than what was happening to us all in the beginning. This whole issue has been quite a journey.
