Apple TV 4K Netflix No Video

Apple TV 4k, Netflix: Audio only, no Video. restored ATV to factory, reinstalled NF app, cable is compliant, AVR settings and TV settings ok as no issue in other apps. Worked fine until today. OS 11.1. everything has been reset, reinstalled, rebooted, and reconnected. Any ideas? NF works fine through the app on the TV as well as the app on the cable box.

The only thing I can add to this conversation is that Netflix and the new TV 4K got along fine for a couple of weeks, we had no issues. Suddenly several days ago after no changes by us (though possible TV 4K update because it's set to auto-update) Netflix video disappeared. Still have audio and sub-titles, but the main picture is black.

As others are reporting, every other app source (YouTube, Crackle, TED, etc.) works fine. Our television is a Sony Bravia 1080p, not 4K.

For now just turn off the auto sleep feature. I took mine in to Apple and they did a Restore which did fix the problem but I did know until I got home. Just in case I had them order a new Apple 4K tv as well which I did go ahead and get when it came in. I have had no issues with the new one or my original after the Restore. I can only guess the that one of the updates corrupted the firmware and required the Restore which reinstalls the latest iOS.

Turning off auto sleep, turning off screensavers.. Nothing has fixed the issue for me. Sony X800D TV.

I've resorted to just hitting the reboot button on my Logitech Harmony remote before I watch something each time. Luckily it reboots super fast... but it is a totally unnecessary step.

Saw that there was a minor release for the AppleTV. Any one know if it made things better?

Having the same issues listed here as everyone else on a Sony XBR65A1E. ATV4k and TV all running the latest software and Belkin cable from Apple. Tried all of the fixes listed, no impact on issue. Spent couple of hours on the phone with Netflix and Apple. Both made it sound like this was the first they have heard of this issue. Frustrating to say the last that Apple would let this issue go on this long. This thread is already 14 pages, makes you wonder if Apple even looks at these..

This has been an ongoing problem I’ve had with my Apple TV 4K and my Sony e900 4K HDR tv. It happens every couple of weeks and is quite annoying - hoping for a fix @apple. Fortunately there is an easy fix: unplug the power cord only from the Apple TV and plug back in after 30 seconds. Don’t mess with any setting and this should work

Just doing a restart will do the same thing as removing power. Depends on how easy to gain access to your power cord. Have you tried turning of the auto sleep mode? Took mine to the Apple Genius Bar and they did a full RESTORE which fixed mine. But just in case it didn’t they ordered a replacement APTV which has also worked just fine.

Someone on AVS forums mentioned to try switching to an input on the TV that doesn't use HDCP when turning the system off. So for me, I programmed my Harmony to switch my 930E to HDMI 1 (which is empty) when I turn the TV off. This seems to have "helped" a bit. I put that in air quotes because it certainly hasn't solved it......but for the past 2 days I have been able to turn on my system and have the ATV be fine. Although it has occurred at least once during the day, so like I said.....not a complete fix. Might be worth a shot for some. In the end I believe this is something Apple needs to address because I have yet to have this problem with my Roku Ultra.

I called Apple Support about this issue because it has been occurring since November. They acted like they had no idea this problem existed. He asked me to unplug the ATV, wait a minute and plug it back in. Then he suggested I do a complete device reset and reinstall all apps. That second part didn't make me happy because it's a pain to do, so I waited a bit. Turns out, the problem has not re-occurred since I unplugged and re-plugged the device. I never did the reset/reinstall. I have had no problems with the video for 2 weeks since that time.

Yeah I think many of us have tried just about everything. Unfortunately it's a problem that manifests itself in different ways for different people, and usually the fix like you are experiencing is only temporary (although I hope for you that it isn't).

There is something, some odd situation that causes these issues. I've mentioned before I have an open bug report with plenty of logs for when it's happening, but Apple hasn't even touched it yet.

Glad yours is working and stable though.

Well, that's not entirely accurate. While unplugging it vs a restart may not help in this situation, there is a difference in the restart vs removing the power cable. I can't remember what problem I was having once, but I had restarted the AppleTV several times and it didn't fix the issue. When I called Apple, they had me remove the power cable, wait a minute and then plug it back in and my issue was resolved. So there sometimes can be a difference between the two.

I agree with your statement but I did find that a restart would temporarily fix this particular issue just as well as when I removed the power from the Apple TV. Neither one was a permanent fix but the restart was easier to do than having to remove the power cord every day or so. Both were just a temporary fix, so why not do it the easier way was my preference. Keeping the Apple TV from going to sleep did resolve my issue but was not a fix either but I didn’t have to power down or restart/reset my device anymore either. Having Apple do a RESTORE to the Apple TV did resolve the issue. I was able to put the Apple TV back into auto sleep mode and never had to do another restart/reset or remove power of the Apple TV. The majority of people have responded that turning off the auto sleep has at least temporarily fixed the issue for them.
