Apple TV 4K Netflix No Video

Apple TV 4k, Netflix: Audio only, no Video. restored ATV to factory, reinstalled NF app, cable is compliant, AVR settings and TV settings ok as no issue in other apps. Worked fine until today. OS 11.1. everything has been reset, reinstalled, rebooted, and reconnected. Any ideas? NF works fine through the app on the TV as well as the app on the cable box.

The only thing I can add to this conversation is that Netflix and the new TV 4K got along fine for a couple of weeks, we had no issues. Suddenly several days ago after no changes by us (though possible TV 4K update because it's set to auto-update) Netflix video disappeared. Still have audio and sub-titles, but the main picture is black.

As others are reporting, every other app source (YouTube, Crackle, TED, etc.) works fine. Our television is a Sony Bravia 1080p, not 4K.

Since Apple did a RESTORE not RESET of my Apple TV at the Genius Bar (10 days now) I have had no issues even with the Apple TV going to sleep. Some keep thinking it is there TV but remember the common denominator is the Apple TV or you wouldn’t be in this discussion group. I’ve done no update or reset to my Sony Bravia tv. Apple did nothing else to my Apple TV but the RESTORE, that I should of tried myself before going to the Genius Bar.

I've done a restore of the AppleTV with no difference made.

I did a factory reset of my TV (Sony X800D) the other night and so far so good. We'll see how long that lasts though. I can't imagine a reset of the TV would make a difference. There was also a firmware update for the TV that I installed.

I have to say, the silence from Apple on this is beyond frustrating. A device this expensive should not have any issues streaming from the most basic and popular of services (Netflix, HBO, Amazon etc).

I would love to think that a simple restore of my Appletv would resolve the issue, but my Appletv is brand new and this has happened since I first got it.

I haven't yet done a restore on my Sony, as I dread having to reset everything again but I may have to take the plunge if that is fixing it for others.

By the way, I have another 4k appletv connected to my Samsung 4K TV and not a single hiccup. Works without any issues for Netflix and I've had that appletv since the 4k was launched.

But I buy another 4k appletv and connect it to my Sony and immediately start having this issue.

I still don’t think it is anybody’s TV... when Apple restored my Apple TV there was another beta software done at the same time, so with two variables I was not sure what really resolved my issue. Here apple has actually released the public 11.2.5 software which was just a released beta 10 days ago, so maybe the update was the magic. Guess if everyone does the latest update and the problem goes away for everyone then we will know the real solution... let’s hope for the best here!!!

using apple tv 4k with LG 65UJ7700 65" 4K tv

I have the same issue where audio keeps coming though but screen is black. restart apple tv video comes back. have swapped out cables with Tripp Lite hdmi 4k cables as well as a belkin cable and problem persists.

I've tried disabling Dolby Vision & running on HDR and issue persists.

it has be something that can be fixed with an update.

have even moved my xbox one s to the port that had the apple tv4k attached to and had zero problems with the xbox.

this happens whether I'm using Netflix, Vudu, HBOGo, or Showtime Anytime.

apple tv is updated to most current version of apple tv os available today 2/6/18 and tv has most current version of LG software updates as well.

When you say "factory" restore, you mean a normal restore from the settings menu, right? If so, this is a temporary fix. I now have a situation where when I turn my Sony Z9D on, the Apple TV is already on and the picture flicks on and off. I also found that 11.3 has killed the remote app on my phone and a reboot of the ATV fixes the picture issue and temporarily, the remote app. After a few minutes, the remote app can't see the ATV. It's like the tvOS is getting worse with further versions.

I have tried disabling the screensaver. It didn't fix the problem. I have tried the reset. I have tried setting the ATV to not sleep. I have reset the Sony Bravia. I have changed cables. I have changed HDMI ports. I have done everything except burn incense and pray. Nothing seems to work more than a short while (if at all). The screensaver thing did nothing for me. This has been going on since November and I can't believe Apple doesn't have a fix or at least acknowledge it.

When I first bought the Apple 4K Tv. I noticed within the first few times of using Netflix, it would play the sound but not the picture. I did a restart and Netflix had picture again. But it kept happening. I figured it was either a faulty device or faulty HDMI cable. So I changed to higher grade HDMI cable, but the problems persist. I saw that some people had success with a factory reset. So I tried that. Same problems again. Again, a restart would always fix the issue. But having to restart the ATV again and again was starting to get old. Then some said disable the sleep function. So I restarted the ATV, made sure Netflix was working again, then disabled the sleep button. Didn't solve the problem. Then I noticed when coming out of the ATV screensaver, Netflix didnt work. So I did a restart again, made sure Netflix was working. Disabled the screensaver and the new screensaver downloads. Turned on the sleep function again (since that wasnt the issue.) And.. so far so good, Its been a couple of days, but every time so far I tried Netflix, it worked. Normally its a restart every day.

Is everyone doing a reset or a restore. RESET will not work.....RESTORE the Apple TV . This will completely delete everything on it and re install the latest iOS. This has to be done using iTunes, maybe this is why if people are only doing a reset nothing is getting resolved. RESTORE not RESET. Just Luke when an iPhone is restored in iTunes. Hope this clears up any confusion on what to do.

I with you.....and surprised it's gone on this long. I have a bug report submitted to Apple but have yet to hear anything from them. I've provided logs/console/sysdiagnose....everything I can think of. I've also tried everything including:

- no screensaver

- changed cables

- set TV to different input before turning off

- power on devices in different orders

- power on delays

The only thing that fixes it is a good old reboot of the ATV. Thankfully I could program my Harmony with a one button press to reboot.
