Apple TV 4K Netflix No Video

Apple TV 4k, Netflix: Audio only, no Video. restored ATV to factory, reinstalled NF app, cable is compliant, AVR settings and TV settings ok as no issue in other apps. Worked fine until today. OS 11.1. everything has been reset, reinstalled, rebooted, and reconnected. Any ideas? NF works fine through the app on the TV as well as the app on the cable box.

I had the exact same problem with the Apple TV 4k (OS 11.1, most recent update)

TV: Hisense 55H9B2 4k curved tv

Cable: Apple-recommended Belkin Ultra HDMI cable

(plus about 6 other 18Gbps cables I bought from Monoprice for much less)

All YouTube 4k content played fine, and I could play 4k movies from iTunes with no problems. Netflix would allow me to browse the content, but when I played 4k videos I would hear sound and could see the UI elements but the video stream was a green screen. When I played regular 1080P content the screen was black, but I could hear sound and see UI.

The Apple TV 4k automatically chose 4k SDR, and would not switch to any other output resolutions. I called Netflix and Apple trying to troubleshoot, but neither could find a solution except to point out that it seems like an HDCP 2.2 issue and to try upgrading my cable. I tried 7 difference cables, including the recommended one from Belkin.

I finally found a post on Amazon for my TV which mentioned that my TV firmware needed an update. The TV's online firmware update feature returned nothing, but I knew mine was the oldest shipped for this TV. Thankfully, someone posted the most recent firmware file on Amazon. I updated via flash drive, and suddenly the Apple TV 4k asked to upgrade the display output to 4k 60Hz HDR. After I changed the output, Netflix started displaying all videos properly.

Check for a firmware update for your television.

For reference for anyone with the Hisense 55H9B2 TV, I upgraded from F1211 to H0117 in order to enable 4k 60Hz HDR (https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R24J42DVDCE5FM/ref=cm_cr_getr_d_rvw_t tl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00ZGIJDOU).

It does help if everyone makes a remark to Netflixs customer service, but man, do they keep you busy.

First I had to try a different HDMI cable - no result

Then a different HDMI port - no result

Then a different TV, which I do not have

Then power off on both apple tv and TV set, and turn the HDMI cable around (😮) - come on guys...

I have no time for these games in between a hard days work and enjoying Netflix (after a reboot of the ATV to make it work).

Just wanted to add another angry voice to the mix.

Brand new Sony Bravia OLED TV, got the Apple TV 4K to match and I’m having the same issue, both with Netflix and the amazon prime app. It happening with multiple apps leads me to believe it’s the Apple TV software rather than anything else.

I’ve spoken with Apple support and I have a callback arranged for tomorrow. Phone operator had no answer whatsoever. Something tells me a solution isn’t imminent.

Well today was the first time I have tried the latest beta since updating last night and what had been working with last weeks update is broken again. I honestly thought we were in the clear but that does not seem to be the case. Of course I allowed my Apple TV to sleep again, so now I will turn off the sleep and see if this gets me back to where I was last week. It seems I would have to running beta software on my phone to be able to report a problem with the beta software for the Apple TV. I can’t believe a smart company lie Apple is having so much trouble resolving this issue. At this point I am seriously thinking about getting rid of the Apple TV and going to either a Google, Amazon or Roku 4K dongle, that is considerably cheaper and probably works just fine. Hope Apple is listening.

I would love to think that a simple restore of my Appletv would resolve the issue, but my Appletv is brand new and this has happened since I first got it.

I haven't yet done a restore on my Sony, as I dread having to reset everything again but I may have to take the plunge if that is fixing it for others.

By the way, I have another 4k appletv connected to my Samsung 4K TV and not a single hiccup. Works without any issues for Netflix and I've had that appletv since the 4k was launched.

But I buy another 4k appletv and connect it to my Sony and immediately start having this issue.

When you say "factory" restore, you mean a normal restore from the settings menu, right? If so, this is a temporary fix. I now have a situation where when I turn my Sony Z9D on, the Apple TV is already on and the picture flicks on and off. I also found that 11.3 has killed the remote app on my phone and a reboot of the ATV fixes the picture issue and temporarily, the remote app. After a few minutes, the remote app can't see the ATV. It's like the tvOS is getting worse with further versions.

I have tried disabling the screensaver. It didn't fix the problem. I have tried the reset. I have tried setting the ATV to not sleep. I have reset the Sony Bravia. I have changed cables. I have changed HDMI ports. I have done everything except burn incense and pray. Nothing seems to work more than a short while (if at all). The screensaver thing did nothing for me. This has been going on since November and I can't believe Apple doesn't have a fix or at least acknowledge it.

Having the same issues listed here as everyone else on a Sony XBR65A1E. ATV4k and TV all running the latest software and Belkin cable from Apple. Tried all of the fixes listed, no impact on issue. Spent couple of hours on the phone with Netflix and Apple. Both made it sound like this was the first they have heard of this issue. Frustrating to say the last that Apple would let this issue go on this long. This thread is already 14 pages, makes you wonder if Apple even looks at these..
