Odds are your bluetooth device was connected to your previous phone. Here is what I did to correct this problem.

On your old phone, go to it's settings and go to bluetooth and disconnect the device or forget the device.

Consult the owners manual of the device you're trying to connect, or look it up on the internet to get the instructions for that device to pair with bluetooth.

Follow the instructions on how to pair that specific device. Some want you to have your iPhone X turned on and searching for bluetooth devices, and some do not, so follow that manufacturers directions as if it is a brand new device that has not been paired yet.

This worked for me, and all is good in my iPhone X world now.

Cannot stream music without skipping when also paired with the car's hands free phone (HFP). If I unpair the HFP, music streaming works without problem. Problem started with iPhone X, this is clearly a problem with iPhone X and software. I asked Apple, they told me to update the car, that is not possible. But the car should not be an issue since the Bluetooth HFP profile has not changed in Bluetooth 5. I have given up, I don't use Bluetooth anymore. Surprised a $1200 phone cannot support it.

The problems I’m having are “complex”. I’ve gone so far as to reset the phone and setup as new (not restore) and the problems persist.

By itself, I Can pair the iPhoneX with my car (Porsche Panamera with PCM 3.1). However, if I plug in the usb to the PCM several problems occur - periodic disconnects reconnects, sometimes playing pandora doesn’t work,....

If my phone was not plugged into usb I was able to also pair to Automatic. But now I can’t get it to pair at all - since the reset. Actually BT pairs but Automatic says the device has disconnected.

Btw, I’ve written BT drivers on iOS and Linux, and have been developing apps since iOS 2.0. It’s not user error.

No, my memory was very clear. I knew it was iPhoneOS 2.0 and that it didn't change to iOS until version 4. I would think a developer would also remember that. You also originally said that you wrote BT drivers for iOS 2.0 and Linux, it was only later that you changed to BT drivers under an JB version of iOS 4.x.

But you still have not stated what these BT drivers are.

And pedantics is very strong with you. Even the Wikipedia article referenced it as both iOS 2 and iPhone OS 2. You understand the point. Do we really need to argue this?

The BT drivers were to allow programmed scanning of BT devices in the immediate area. A precursor to BT beacons of sorts - but reversed. iOS didn’t allow for it at the time, so.... the project ended up moving to Android since jail breaking could not be relied on for commercial use.

I don't care what Wikipedia referred to it as, there was no such thing as iOS 2.0 and a developer would know this.

Why would a driver be used to scan for BT devices in the area, that is a function of the BT chipset and always has been. And that would be an app not a driver. The iPhones with BT were always capable of scanning for BT devices it is built into the standard. And that is not a precursor to beacons. Phones using android also could always scan for nearby devices, no additional software required. What is the name of the app in the Google Play Store?

I see you are an adherent of Monty Python’s skit - I came here for an argument. :—)

As to a driver - Apple didn’t expose that functionality to apps - someone that has actually developed code on iOS would know that. The app needed to know what BT devices were in proximity - the only way was through a custom driver.

It was a commercial service for coupon management in retail. It was never in either App Store. The service was called SavvyPenny by Green Virtual Solutions.

Not sure how this discussion relates to the actual problem at hand...

I'm also have issues with bluetooth on my Iphone X.

When I'm in my car my bluetooth automatically connects to my audio system and my Garmin DriveAssist GPS (two units) like my Iphone 5 did. So far so good.

But after a while bluetooth disconnects from my audio system and only connects again if I press Phone on the audio system.

In the beginning I didn't know if it was my audio system or my Iphone X but now I realised that my Iphone X also disconnects from my Garmin DriveAssist GPS!?

Holy ###. I do not want to do a full reload of the OS and start as new. What happened to the old "Apple, it just works"

I can't go through that. I hope they are aware of this and are going to have a software patch to fix it. If it is hardware they should make it public and replace phones that have faulty hardware.

Anyway I hope this is a software patch and we can all move on.

I'm still working with apple to try and figure out why voicemail transcription does not show up in visual voicemail on the X. I am getting transcriptions from Verizon via sms so it is active on my account but the X won't show it on the voicemail tab. I wish I stuck with my 7 Plus now. Too many issues on this phone.
