people cant hear me on calls on iphone x

I’ve had my iPhone X since release day, but over the calls I’ve made. I’ve had everyone say I sound very faint at times or they can’t hear me at all. Then I have to yell and all of a sudden they hear me yelling at them. Is this a software problem? Or should I go to the Apple store? Less than a week owning it is pretty disappointing when I have to go to the store for a check already...

Have been meaning to post this for a while - the issue is not the phone. It’s the flip case. When you fold it back, it covers the rear mic and the phone thinks your voice is the background noise (hence trying to cancel it out).

I have tried calling without folding the cover and multiple people confirmed my voice was crisp.

Within 30 days they have to refund you. Between 30 days and 6 months, they have one chance to repair or replace. (If after 6 months you would need to prove the fault was there when new. ) If the repair or replacement is still faulty then they should refund. HOWEVER, they say they need to verify the fault after the repair - and the only way to do this is to take it to an apple store or third party store. All they do is do the audio test which proves the microphone/speakers, not a call test. The diagnostic test is not picking up this fault with the phone so they are refusing to do anything. They won't even acknowledge the video sample I sent them.

I have had this problem since the day I purchased this phone. Apple has since replace the phone and I had an continue to have the same problem with the new phone from the first call I made. Apple has refused to do anything to rectify this situation. I have been a life long apple fan with a fair amount of disposable income to spend on their products. This has now ended my relationship with Apple. I will never buy another product from this company. A 1000 dollar phone and you can't even make a simple phone call, I find this unacceptable.

Struggled with this since launch day.. so grateful to have found this thread. People start saying ‘you’re fading, you’re fading, I can’t hear you’ (they sound fine, no issues receiving the audio). Then it gets to the point I’m shouting back at them, sometimes in the car on CarPlay. The frustration gets so overwhelming I just hang up and ring them back, which obviously solves the problem, but man, painful!

Apple silicone case.

Never covering the rear mic when it happens.

Standard use and CarPlay.

Once every few days.

Then you have some general issue of what is going on in your particular situation.

I can guarantee you it is not a general case problem with the iPhone X or there would be tens of thousands of complaints here and elsewhere.

I myself have an iPhone X and have never experienced any such issues in calls up to two hours in length.

Regardless, since you are working with Apple Support, and we are just fellow users on this forum, there's nothing more that can be done here.

I realize some have had issues, but since Apple has sold over 40 million iPhone Xs as of January of 2018, were it common to all of them reports would be much more widespread.

I understand that it is frustrating, but at the same time if you are working with Apple Support, you have a better line on a "fix" than any of us do, which was my original point.

We're just fellow users here; you're the one working directly with Apple.

After 3 iPhone X's I couldn't take it anymore. Oh yeah Apple wanted to send me another phone but no way will I pay for a refurbished phone when I bought mine new. My wife has said when talking to other people on their Apple they were hard to hear clearly. Even talking to Apple representatives they would also say I need to repeat myself as my message was broken up. I understand this might be everyone's plan to send out refurbished phones but when software update after update doesn't fix the problem it's time to say good-bye. I have tried every possible solution under the sun expect drive 2 1/2hrs to an Apple store which is BS when when this issue has been going on for 6 months. I now have a Samsung Galaxy s9 plus which is what I wished I would have got back when they 1st came out. Maybe it was the 1st batch of iPhones that came out I don't know regardless Im done with iPhones as I had the 7 & 8 with no problems.

You must be one of the luckiest person to have the issue fixed, I've tried this on 2 of my iPhone X's, it's an issue that Apple is aware of but they're not addressing it properly. It has to be a certain batch of iPhones that came out together as I'm not about to allow them to lock me in on one of their phones ever again. Hello Galaxy 9 plus, love it, good bye Crapple

It is a Joke! The last iPhone produced that you could make a phone call with using handset was the 6S, it was crystal clear. I work for a Fortune 10 company in the IT department and I have tested this out with our Mobility Team using different phones. It is amazing that the last three iterations of the iPhone are incapable of making a clear phone call using the handset. How does this go un-noticed by everyone?

Same here for us, exec c/s finally said the engineers are aware and a fix will come one day, lol. There was one guy at Apple that had a iphone x and admitted there was a problem was very sympathetic and helpful but has now disappeared. How can a company this big admit there is a problem but expect you to live with a defective $1000 phone ?

I’ve about had it with this iPhone X. People can’t hear me. Speaker phone helps. Will this site even help me or is it just a gripe session? iPhone X is easy to use but changes on it seem to be for sake of change only and not for improvement. Then older phones are no longer available and cords, etc. no longer fit older phones. I know Apple wants to keep their earnings high but this is ridiculous.

Also, I got rid of my SE 64GB (ios 11.4.1) which was having this issue.

Got a brand new 6S 64GB, manufactured in April of this year. It came with ios 11.3

Did not restore from backup, setup as a new phone.

Voice calls are clear as a bell.

Software update says that I can upgrade to 11.4.1, but too scared to do it.

Stangely, ios is not bugging me to update like it used to do. Haven't got any of those

"Software update available" popups. At least not yet.

I'm not going to install anymore updates until this issue has been acknowledged and resolved.

Which is dissapointing, because I'd like to sync and re-download my Messages.
