I've had my phone for 3 days and no matter if I am receiving a call or making a call after a short bit of time the person on the other end of the line can no longer hear me, but I can hear them just fine. Please let us know how to get this fixed.

Same issue here- people report the audio to be very muffled and unclear. They’re unable to make out the words when I talk.
Interestingly when I put the call on speaker, the other person can hear me very clearly. Seems this might be an issue with the mouthpiece on these new phones?
I tried your suggestion and it worked for a few hours then the issues returned. I called my cell phone provider and they had me reset my Network Settings on the phone again the issue was fixed for at least a day, but the next day the problem returned yet again.
I have had the exact same problem on 2 IPhone X 256gb the first exchanged and the second returned for a refund because the store had no solution. We tried the phone in store and it clearly was inaudible unless I shouted directly into to bottom of the phone. Then all of a sudden for a few sentences I could be heard but it was still muffled, then it became virtually inaudible again. The store upgraded the phone to the latest firmware that had just been released yesterday and that seemed to increase the volume so I could be heard although still muffled but I took the phone away to try it further. Then within a space of a few hours, callers could not hear me clearly. I took the phone back to the store and in store the phone settings were reset with no effect. The whole phone was erased and set up as a new phone with only the supplied Apple apps but still no solution. The store requested I get a replacement sim which I did from the three store a few stores away. Still no solution, low and muffled volume. Works fine if using speaker phone. The store staff were as confused by the fault as I was, albeit they were very helpful. Clearly an issue, as this is the same fault on 2 separate iPhone x’s. back to my old iPhone 6 until I’m satisfied apple have this one sorted.
Had this exact same problem - everyone I spoke to on the phone would complain that they couldn’t hear me. I think I’ve found the fix - for me it was a ‘reduce background noise’ setting that was turned on in the iPhone X. I think at times it was thinking my voice was background noise and muffling it. Anyway, here’s how to turn it off:
Go to settings
General
Accessibility
Then scroll down to the ‘hearing’ subheading and look for ‘phone noise cancellation’. Mine was turned on. I turned it off and bam, prob solved!
Hope that helps.
Thanks for this. Unfortunately I was so frustrated I returned the phone for refund so can’t try your solution. Is there anyone else this works for? I’ll contact Apple support and discuss this with them as I don’t want to have to purchase another iPhone x just to return it. The nearest store to me is 1.5 hours away. Thanks again.
Been in touch with Apple technical support this morning re your fix. However, they state they have no knowledge of this fault and it may be a bad batch. I explained that I gave had 2 Iphone x’s with this fault and that a number of people seem to be affected by it but still said it must be an untested faulty batch. So my advice to anyone with this problem would be to return it ASAP as you may have a faulty device. I will purchase another as soon as I get my refund on my card and try it out and return it if it’s of the so called faulty batch. Waiting a scheduled call from Apple later today and will report back if anything further to add.
Yes I am having the same problem I am on third iPhone x It’s fine on speaker but who wants to talk on speaker or Bluetooth all the time not for me sorry. Will be returning and going with another phone until they fix the problem. Bad batch is bunch of bull I had them order me the last two from different locations. I really need my noise cancellation on cause I work where it is kinda loud. Hope this help you guys make your mind up not to get this phone or wait. And the people acted like I was the first one they heard this from at my provider. Not cool. Three lemons I doubt that so three phones later same probably and about 7 hours in my providers store What a joke of a phone that cost what it does. If they don’t get me squared away Samsung all the way!
Did you try switching off noise cancellation and if so did this cure the fault? Can you let me know as I never tried this on either my faulty iphone 6’s. Like you I had 2 phones from different locations over a week apart both same fault. Contacted by Apple support yesterday evening who had no knowledge of the problem. I just wanted to feed the fault back to them so they can cure it before I buy another. But from the conversation I’m not hopeful. It seems the main interest is to sell as many phones no matter what. I doubt apple even monitor these forums or if they do they have ignored this particular chat. Regards
Thanks that’s help me make up my mind. Went to John Lewis today and viewed IPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus side by side. It must be my eyes because the 8 plus screen content was larger and clearer. Yes the phone is bigger but the screen is far clearer to me. So I’m giving up on the buggie x and going with the 8 plus. Thanks.
14 days is the period of return but as it’s faulty they may take it back. That’s why everyone should test their iPhone X as soon as they buy it over the first week and return it if it has this fault. Clearly they haven't been tested properly. You could try the fix described above but even if this works your phone is still faulty. I’d return it for repair.
Thank you for that...it seemed to work for a day, then started doing the same thing again. I took it to the genius store and they told me nothing is wrong with the phone, but there definitely is something wrong. It acts like I have hit the mute button, but the mute is not highlighted. Today when it happened I went to speaker and that still did not work, so I hit mute then unmute and it began to work...so it appears that there may be something fautly with the mute button. However, my saying that won't mean anything because the "genius" at the apple store said nothing is wrong with it. This is very frustrating!
I’ve found that the last thing Apple want to admit is that their flagship iPhone has a bug that they can’t fix. I would set about making a complaint to force them to exchange your iPhone and if subsequent exchanges are faulty keep exchanging them. Many people will not be aware that others can’t hear them because people don’t like telling the caller they can’t hear them because they sound muffled. I was able to make a call to a store assistants Iphone that highlighted the fault. Initialily they stated it was audible but muffled but hen I called Apple help line then they couldn’t hear them so a hands up.
I had the same issue with my fathers iPhone X.
i bought a wallet case from eBay named Dulci.
Since day one the quality of his voice was terrible.
I tried several ways to resolve the problem.
Of course I tried the noise reduction ON or OFF but nothing.
Then I tried to remove the case when I had active call, and like magic the issue disappeard.
For helping you I have to mention the case does not cover any mic or any hardware but produce this issue without any visible problem.
I also switch to ROCK case during active call and with ROCK case on it there is no issue.
Now with my X i use not too much I hear complaints about the won’t hear me but not often.
I used two different cases one for ROCK and the other from Caseology Coastline series.
With Caseology I have the issue and after switch to ROCK no issue, but I have to say this is not a primary device.
After a week I will use the X as primary device and I will have a clean image about the issue.
Very strange, especially as it doesn’t cover the bottom mics. I must admit that the fault on mine was intermittent so sometimes would clear. I didn’t get to try if the various turning on off sound options as mentioned above that fixed the issue for some, but even if it did the phone would be faulty and I’m not paying that sort of money for an item that isn’t perfect.
Exactly right!! Phone has a problem! And you just did a good job promoting the rock case! Sorry people that is not going to fix your phone! I will be getting a Different phone this week. Clearly phone is faulty. I have had three and they all sound muffled or cuts out. Terrible for a business phone.
people cant hear me on calls on iphone x
