people cant hear me on calls on iphone x

I’ve had my iPhone X since release day, but over the calls I’ve made. I’ve had everyone say I sound very faint at times or they can’t hear me at all. Then I have to yell and all of a sudden they hear me yelling at them. Is this a software problem? Or should I go to the Apple store? Less than a week owning it is pretty disappointing when I have to go to the store for a check already...

Same issue here- people report the audio to be very muffled and unclear. They’re unable to make out the words when I talk.

Interestingly when I put the call on speaker, the other person can hear me very clearly. Seems this might be an issue with the mouthpiece on these new phones?

I will know in a week about my personal X.

About Won’t hear me at all, only one person complain sometimes and no other person.

So, I will let you know ASAP.

On my 7 Plus with Caseology case there was not any issue.

And as Caseology is a serious manufacturer I just mention it.

Not promotion for anyone.

just for helping people.

Also the

Space Grey out of the box was full of scratch and waited for two weeks for replacement under DOA policy.

I hope mine have no issue about hearing.

Please forgive me for for my broken English.

Same problem for me also. I thought there might be a flaw in my OtterBox case so I removed my case and I still have the same problem. Three calls yesterday had to be put on speaker phone so they could hear me. Major problem and needs to be addressed. i don't like having others hear my phone calls when I am in a store or restaurant. And from reading all these complaints Apple really needs to get on this. Too much money to spend and have a problem like this

Three mics I believe, but stand to be corrected. Bottom for voice calls, top near earpiece for speaker phone and rear near lens for video. Understand the rear mic may be use also for noise cancelling. Thought I read that somewhere as I recall the person having same problem and covering this mic solved it. No longer have Iphone x so unable to try that or turning off the noise cancelling.

Just reported version of this to Apple may help solve your problem or it may be completely wrong;

My 3rd phone all IOS 11.2 people I call report they have difficulty hearing me. If I switch to speaker phone they hear me perfectly. Many people have reported the same problem and some say turning off ‘phone noise cancellation’ improves the problem. When I speak into the phone holding it to my ear I fold back the apple folio case to behind the phone. This creates an air gap between the rear of the phone and the case. When I speak my voice is enhanced along the back of the phone in the gap directly to the rear camera microphone (the mic responsible for noise cancellation). This microphone detects my voice as noise and tries to cancel it out. The gap acts as a sound chamber linking directly to the noise cancelling microphone. Out of case a hand could cause same gap.

Yep all three I’ve bought display the same issue. Deciding weather to return this one as well for yet another refund. Not saying what I posted above is the cause but it worked for me. It does mean that the iPhone X is faulty as this shouldn’t be an issue for the money we pay....and yes Apple should fix it. But how I’ve no idea how. Perhaps if what I have posted is the cause then some sort of software update to reduce sensitivity of noise reduction mic.

Having carried out further test with the 3rd IPhone X replacement I can confirm that what I suspected is the cause of low volume calls in my case. Folding the folio back definitely lowers the volume for people receiving my calls. This must be due to the rear mic picking up an amplified voice by the void created as described above. If you have this problem try turning off noise cancelling or put a small piece of tape or your finger over the mic in between the lenses to see if it cures your problem. The phone and Apple folio case are therefore incompatible and this may be the case for other folio cases and may even occur if your hand creates a void. Therefore the phone is faulty as it is. Perhaps a software fix will solve it. If so I think Apple owe me a large drink!!!

My iPhone X was making muffled calls. It was in folio Apple case. Muffled calls cleared up when I put the phone on speaker phone. I’ve tried hard and soft reboot‘s, with and without case (cleared a little) to no avail. I brought the phone to the Apple Store (3 hr drive) to have tests run on it and the outcome of those tests was everything was operating as normal. We tried to duplicate the muffled sound and after many tries we succeeded duplicating the sound. the tec then went into the setting, cellular, cellular data options, enable LTE, ticked on voice and data. After doing us the phone seem to work fine I left the store and a few hours later made some calls which were again muffled. I went back to the store and exchanged my iPhone for another iPhone X. After making 2 calls It seemed to work fine. I left the store and had the same thing happen one hour later... muffled calls. Today I will try a new SIM card and see if that helps, but in reading the previous replys it looks as if it won’t . It seems many are having the same problem, apple has really dropped the ball on this one

It seems the issue when the case is folding happens with all the same style cases.

This is issue with the X only.

Probably the solution will come with an update as the mic is always near the camera from iPhone 6 to X.

As I said after the first folding case who has a problem even when is unfold, the new case I use today works fine, but the problem starts right after folding.

Different and brand, no Apple.

I am having the same issue. It's not the case, and I've tried the noise cancellation suggestion. Neither fixed the problem. People I call either can't hear me at all or it is very faint/muffled. Sometimes people can hear me for a minute or two at the beginning of the call, but the problem always arises. Other times, people can't hear anything at all from the start. The problem goes away when I talk on speakerphone which is very inconvenient. I called Apple support and the guy was of no help at all. He didn't even know that there was more than one mic on the iPhone X. Steve Jobs is turning in his grave.

Getting very tired and frustrated with this very expensive piece of junk.

I have same issue since day one. I thought is just temporary or is not my problem of hearing and maybe the other phones have this issue. But then I have tried to call me on other phone and it was like nothing to hear from my phone! What is happening? I spent 2000$ for what? Even like a normal phone is not working? Come on Apple!
