people cant hear me on calls on iphone x

I’ve had my iPhone X since release day, but over the calls I’ve made. I’ve had everyone say I sound very faint at times or they can’t hear me at all. Then I have to yell and all of a sudden they hear me yelling at them. Is this a software problem? Or should I go to the Apple store? Less than a week owning it is pretty disappointing when I have to go to the store for a check already...

Same issue here- people report the audio to be very muffled and unclear. They’re unable to make out the words when I talk.

Interestingly when I put the call on speaker, the other person can hear me very clearly. Seems this might be an issue with the mouthpiece on these new phones?

Here is what I figured out. You cant hold the phone between your shoulder and ear as so many commonly do when doing something while on the phone. You cant hold the phone tight against your hand at the top of the phone near the camera. You cant use a portfolio case of any kind with the cover opened back. Disabling noise cancelling will not correct the problem. This is 100% an issue with the rear mic by the camera.

How to use your phone until Apple corrects this issue.

1: Hold the phone with the tips of your fingers towards the bottom of the phone creating an arch in your palm to allow plenty of room between your phone and your palm.

2: Do not hold the phone with your shoulder while on a call.

3: If using a portfolio style case. Open it to answer the call or dial, then close the case and make the call with the case closed making sure you hold your phone as listed in 1:

4: Put it on speaker phone

5:Bluetooth device.

This is the only way to use your phone with decent audio quality until Apple corrects this problem via software, firmware, hardware update or combination of all three. Exchanging sim cards, phones and other fixes will not correct this issue.

If implementing 1 through 5 does not correct your problem then you may need a phone replacement/repair, but I would be willing to bet that almost all phones will work properly if following those techniques. At least using these techniques you will be able to make an important business call without missed communications and sounding completely unprofessional.

I have the same problems with Iphone x in Ukraine. I reset the phone and restore it as a new one. It did not help. I tried different sim cards but did not help. Disabling noise cancellation also did not help.My wife's iPhone 6s has a beautiful clear sound. I'm very upset about this problem. In our country there is no Apple Store and I can not return the phone.

I will be very grateful for any help.

I'm with Tesco mobile. It suddenly started happened in December on my old iphone SE first after having used it for 2 years with no probs. I couldn't get to the bottom of it so I upgraded to the iphone x.

I have a similar problem but the other way round, I am in the middle of a conversation and after about 5 mins suddenly I can't hear the other person speaking but they can hear me as clear as day. What happens is that I hear a hissing whooshing sound, (not unlike holding a seashell to your ear when you were a kid to listen to the sea). I'm so used to it now my friends expect it and I have to say, hold on, I've lost you, I'll call you right back. They hear me say that, I can't hear them and I hang up, call back and I'm back again, for another few mins then same thing happens.

It's driving me mad as I have customers calling me to book their hols right now and I can't hold a business conversation with this going on.

That phone (iphonex 3 weeks old) also finally froze permanently. Conveniently on New Years eve at the bells. I lost the video I was taking at that moment and all my holiday photos for the days leading up to that that hadn't been saved to icloud. The touch screen wouldn't work for anything. I tried the suggested hard close down which was press volume up, then volume down buttons then right hand switch off. That didn't make a difference.

I was sent a new iphone 8 days ago. I changed over and also used the new sim (as it was suggested the old sim was at fault). After 2 phone calls, exact same thing again! Couldn't hear the caller, they could hear me, same hissing my side. It only happens when I get up and move about though. I thought it was a loose connection inside the phone but third phone same problem says no to that.

I've just come off a 3 hour call with Tesco Mobile. They've finally agreed to send out another iphonex. We're hoping I was just unlucky with 2 handset and 3rd time lucky. I hope so.

Apple said they know there is a problem and they are working on a fix. I couldn’t return my $120 folio case as I received it 3 weeks befor the phone. Apple offered a new case and $150 in Iphone related Apple store merchandise. I was told not to send back the Wallet case. I found that if you hold your finger tip between the wallet case when open it works fine. Iphone model # is NQAK2LL/A

My post has nothing to do with ear pods.

I have used regular ear BUDS (no microphone) in conjunction with the Iphones microphone for conference calls for several years now. It all worked flawlessly. With the iPhone X, when I plug in with ear buds, the iPhone built in mic becomes severely attenuated, not canceled as your post erroneously seems to allude.

I went to the Apple Store to find out why folks told me I sound like I'm going in and out of a tunnel while on my new iPhone X purchased from the Apple Store. They ran diagnostics. All great! They did say I was three Verizon cell tower versions behind so we updated that. The tech said I shouldn't have to turn off Phone Noise Cancellation under Accessibility or turn on Hearing Aid Compatibility (as some folks are stating). So, all "appeared" great. I called three friends while sitting there....I still sounded muffled. So I called each one back from the Apple techs older iPhone. I was crystal clear. There you have it! So - they gave me a new phone. I then called those folks back again. They said it was definitely better but still not as crisp as the techs phone. I did not have a case on the iPhone X and his had one. Anyways, make sure you're up to date with your cell service and then go in and do what I did.

This isn't good. I really think the iphone X has very serious issues. I now received my 3rd iphone X in over 6 weeks from Tesco Mobile (as they have no way of fixing them) and it's now a silver. I had two space grey before.

And you've guessed it, it still has the same problem!! Crazy!

The thing is I don't know what to do now.

Do I move to an iphone 7 or 8 or the 7+/8+ ? All other suppliers are selling these phone at just a little under what I'm paying for the iphone X. Very annoying.

I had an iPhone 6 before the X I have now and had no problems with call quality. Since I've had the X I've had callers saying they either cannot hear me or I sound distorted or robot-like. I've had my phone back to apple for repair and was using an old android phone whilst it was away - I had no issue with the android. Apple replaced the microphone and display (not sure why they replaced the display) and I'm still getting the same issue. I'm trying if for a couple more days then I think I'm going to ask for a refund under my consumer rights. Not good but I'm considering ditching apple and going back to android. If a phone doesn't perform its primary function then its a poor show.

I'm having the same issue on my new 8 plus. I have tried two different covers and no cover at all and still the same issue. Unless I scream no one can hear me. I googled and there are a lot of complaints about this. I tried to do a hard reset and checked my voice memo app to make sure it's not a technical issue and those were all fine. Getting very irritated.
