people cant hear me on calls on iphone x

I’ve had my iPhone X since release day, but over the calls I’ve made. I’ve had everyone say I sound very faint at times or they can’t hear me at all. Then I have to yell and all of a sudden they hear me yelling at them. Is this a software problem? Or should I go to the Apple store? Less than a week owning it is pretty disappointing when I have to go to the store for a check already...

Have been meaning to post this for a while - the issue is not the phone. It’s the flip case. When you fold it back, it covers the rear mic and the phone thinks your voice is the background noise (hence trying to cancel it out).

I have tried calling without folding the cover and multiple people confirmed my voice was crisp.

Hi - Thanks for your reply on this matter. The issue on my phone is specific to how I am heard on the other end of the call when the phone is placed to my ear - in other words, holding the phone in a normal way. When on speaker mode, my voice is heard fine because I am talking more directly into the microphone.

I cannot see anything in the link you provided to help with this...

Hope you can help.

Hi- Helpful ? I'm just trying to say that i am experiencing the exact same issue no one can hear me when i'm holding the iPhone x in the normal manner and i too have to put the phone onto loud speaker for people to hear me at the other end. Trouble is its also intermitant sometimes callers can hear me fine but most of the time they say i'm like under water and very muffled. Where is the mic on the iPhone x anyway?

Did you try switching off noise cancellation and if so did this cure the fault? Can you let me know as I never tried this on either my faulty iphone 6’s. Like you I had 2 phones from different locations over a week apart both same fault. Contacted by Apple support yesterday evening who had no knowledge of the problem. I just wanted to feed the fault back to them so they can cure it before I buy another. But from the conversation I’m not hopeful. It seems the main interest is to sell as many phones no matter what. I doubt apple even monitor these forums or if they do they have ignored this particular chat. Regards

Very strange, especially as it doesn’t cover the bottom mics. I must admit that the fault on mine was intermittent so sometimes would clear. I didn’t get to try if the various turning on off sound options as mentioned above that fixed the issue for some, but even if it did the phone would be faulty and I’m not paying that sort of money for an item that isn’t perfect.

Yep all three I’ve bought display the same issue. Deciding weather to return this one as well for yet another refund. Not saying what I posted above is the cause but it worked for me. It does mean that the iPhone X is faulty as this shouldn’t be an issue for the money we pay....and yes Apple should fix it. But how I’ve no idea how. Perhaps if what I have posted is the cause then some sort of software update to reduce sensitivity of noise reduction mic.

It seems the issue when the case is folding happens with all the same style cases.

This is issue with the X only.

Probably the solution will come with an update as the mic is always near the camera from iPhone 6 to X.

As I said after the first folding case who has a problem even when is unfold, the new case I use today works fine, but the problem starts right after folding.

Different and brand, no Apple.

I am having the same issue. It's not the case, and I've tried the noise cancellation suggestion. Neither fixed the problem. People I call either can't hear me at all or it is very faint/muffled. Sometimes people can hear me for a minute or two at the beginning of the call, but the problem always arises. Other times, people can't hear anything at all from the start. The problem goes away when I talk on speakerphone which is very inconvenient. I called Apple support and the guy was of no help at all. He didn't even know that there was more than one mic on the iPhone X. Steve Jobs is turning in his grave.

Getting very tired and frustrated with this very expensive piece of junk.

I found holding the folio case open 1/2” works. But your right they know there is a problem and they are keeping it quiet so their stock won’t fall. Plus the folio case is still being sold in their stores. I can’t believe this problem is effecting all iPhone 10’s ... there appears to be a bad batch that is being hidden from the consumers deliberately. We the consumer pay the price.
