people cant hear me on calls on iphone x

I’ve had my iPhone X since release day, but over the calls I’ve made. I’ve had everyone say I sound very faint at times or they can’t hear me at all. Then I have to yell and all of a sudden they hear me yelling at them. Is this a software problem? Or should I go to the Apple store? Less than a week owning it is pretty disappointing when I have to go to the store for a check already...

Same issue here- people report the audio to be very muffled and unclear. They’re unable to make out the words when I talk.

Interestingly when I put the call on speaker, the other person can hear me very clearly. Seems this might be an issue with the mouthpiece on these new phones?

Apple will never acknowledge it here, this is a user-to-user technical support site. Nor will they see your post. You need to make a Genius Bar appointment or call AppleCare.

Just curious, are you using a folios type case? Does it act the same out of the case?

More than 15 million iPhone X models have been sold. What percentage of that is 868?

I wasn't expecting them to acknowledge it 'here'. I would have thought if they were aware of an issue, they would have acknowledged it when I called them to arrange the 'repair'. Although 868 isn't many in the amount of sales, its still 868 so a certain amount must have called them to be flagged up on their system as an issue.

I've used various cases and the issue has been present with all or without. None have interfered with the mics. I'm now using the leather apple case (not folio).

From what I can tell online they are replacing the phones when you take them in because they don't know why they are doing it, but the new phones do the same thing so what exactly is the point until they fix the actual issue? I have done all the things the recommended and even some of the not so conventional and still no one can hear me clearly. They said it sounds like I am mumbling or have the phone on my shoulder. I am so tired of it especially considering the price on these things!

I have had prople say they can’t understand me in a call and then a work colleague asked me if the phone was in a case to which I said yes, he said take it out of the case see if that works, it did. He said that’s much better I can hear and understand you now. I believe it’s bad placement of the phone mics by Apple. You would have thought Apple would have done a bit more testing on this - poor show by Apple I say... Now every time I make or receive a call I have to struggle and take my phone out of its case.

Get them to send you a parcel that you can send it back to them in for repair. If you go to the store, they'll just fart around with it and give it you back. If you send it them they'll likely replace the microphone.

I'm still testing mine after they replaced the mic & display. Sod's law though, hardly had any calls since!

I bought new iPhone 8 Plus last month and no one could hear me when I answered their call . I went to apple store and tech had same issue so they replace my phone and now it’s doing same thing intermittently. Never had this problem with other older iPhone models. I’ve spoken to others with same issue . This is a big problem yet u don’t hear about it except on blog like this

I am experiencing similar issues. It is causing confusion during conference calls and at times the listeners are trying to piece together what they heard and implying the rest. Hearing is a primary function of a phone. One could expect this basic function being fulfilled (without being crazy about workaround) after spending $1,000.

I have been contacting apple daily regarding my claim that their 'repair' they say they have done to my phone has made no difference. They just do not want to reply to me. I have had the phone at an independent apple store and the basic microphone/speaker check they did suggested no fault. My frustration is that there is a bit more involved in making a phone call than just a working microphone. Its what the phone does with the audio signal prior to transmitting it to the network that I feel is the issue. There's something amiss and apple either don't know what the issue is, cannot fix it or won't admit there is an issue. I suspect the latter. And the number of people with this issue has now passed 1000 on this thread.

I use my phone for business so can't afford to have clients complaining that they can't hear me. I've replaced the phone with a google pixel 2 xl which I can report has no issues with call quality. The iPhone sits unused in its box waiting for apple to process a refund. They say they need to verify that the phone is faulty, yet they do not make any test calls on the device to determine this, they just test the microphone. Very let down by apple.
