people cant hear me on calls on iphone x

I’ve had my iPhone X since release day, but over the calls I’ve made. I’ve had everyone say I sound very faint at times or they can’t hear me at all. Then I have to yell and all of a sudden they hear me yelling at them. Is this a software problem? Or should I go to the Apple store? Less than a week owning it is pretty disappointing when I have to go to the store for a check already...

Same issue here- people report the audio to be very muffled and unclear. They’re unable to make out the words when I talk.

Interestingly when I put the call on speaker, the other person can hear me very clearly. Seems this might be an issue with the mouthpiece on these new phones?

After 3 iPhone X's I couldn't take it anymore. Oh yeah Apple wanted to send me another phone but no way will I pay for a refurbished phone when I bought mine new. My wife has said when talking to other people on their Apple they were hard to hear clearly. Even talking to Apple representatives they would also say I need to repeat myself as my message was broken up. I understand this might be everyone's plan to send out refurbished phones but when software update after update doesn't fix the problem it's time to say good-bye. I have tried every possible solution under the sun expect drive 2 1/2hrs to an Apple store which is BS when when this issue has been going on for 6 months. I now have a Samsung Galaxy s9 plus which is what I wished I would have got back when they 1st came out. Maybe it was the 1st batch of iPhones that came out I don't know regardless Im done with iPhones as I had the 7 & 8 with no problems.

You must be one of the luckiest person to have the issue fixed, I've tried this on 2 of my iPhone X's, it's an issue that Apple is aware of but they're not addressing it properly. It has to be a certain batch of iPhones that came out together as I'm not about to allow them to lock me in on one of their phones ever again. Hello Galaxy 9 plus, love it, good bye Crapple

I am on my third iPhone X and nothing has helped and Apple really has no regard for their customers regarding this issue. I absolutely agree with Tiptx4, there are other phones out there that work great an you can actually place a phone call with them, novel idea. I have since changed over to a Pixel 2 XL and it is a far superior phone in my opinion.

It is a Joke! The last iPhone produced that you could make a phone call with using handset was the 6S, it was crystal clear. I work for a Fortune 10 company in the IT department and I have tested this out with our Mobility Team using different phones. It is amazing that the last three iterations of the iPhone are incapable of making a clear phone call using the handset. How does this go un-noticed by everyone?

We have several iPhone x the 64 versions, all with the same voice quality issues. Have had the opportunity to use 3 different iphone x's but the 256 versions. None of these had the issue. Same city, Atlanta, same carrier, Verizon.

Therefore, it would be helpful for everyone to list there version in any reply.

I`ve also had this issue both on iPhone 8 and now on iPhone X. The only solution I`ve found so far is enabling !! noise cancellation and holding a finger against the rear microphone (the one next to the LED light between the lenses) when making a phone call and thus blocking it. Before I`ve experienced trouble during literally every phone call but now people hear me loud and clear.

I mean.. it`s a bit stupid to do this kind of black magic with a $1000 phone but at least now I can finally make phone calls with it 😀

The most frustrating thing for me about this issue is how Apple has taken such an immoral and unethical low road on this problem. As many others have mentioned, they act like they have never heard of such an issue when you talk to their senior level engineers. Apple refuses to even acknowledge this huge problem that has existed in their iPhones since the model 7. I just can't see myself buying anymore products from a company that would treat their customers this way. There is a total disregard for the consumer in this situation. I have had three iPhones and two different service providers and nothing fixes this issue. There is a systemic problem with the iPhone hardware and Apple will never admit or acknowledge this as it could effect the bottom line and their financial results. One thing always remains constant, no matter who my service provider is I can always take my SIM card out of my iPhone and put it in my Google Pixel 2 and there are no call quality issues. Apple senior engineers will not even respond to my call anymore because they know there is no fix for this issue.

Same here for us, exec c/s finally said the engineers are aware and a fix will come one day, lol. There was one guy at Apple that had a iphone x and admitted there was a problem was very sympathetic and helpful but has now disappeared. How can a company this big admit there is a problem but expect you to live with a defective $1000 phone ?

Exact same issue! People can't hear me on my new iPhone X unless I switch to speakerphone. I tried to call my self a couple of times and I realized that in order to hear my own voice I need to place my mouth right next to the microphone on the bottom of the phone unless I can not hear my voice! Apple needs to replace all iPhone X or fixes the problem to all iPhone X for free (as happened with the problematic sleep buttons on a previous model...!)

I’ve about had it with this iPhone X. People can’t hear me. Speaker phone helps. Will this site even help me or is it just a gripe session? iPhone X is easy to use but changes on it seem to be for sake of change only and not for improvement. Then older phones are no longer available and cords, etc. no longer fit older phones. I know Apple wants to keep their earnings high but this is ridiculous.

This issue is occuring on many models, not just the X.

It's linked to cellular voice calls only. Facetime audio call are fine.

Searching for answers to "iphone, people say they can't hear me" or "people say I sound muffled,"

reveals the X, 8, 7, SE are all suffering from this maddening issue.

Don't bother wasting your time with resets, restores, and new sim cards. The problem will come back.

Testing the microphones will not show any issues.

Apple hardware diagnostics will not show any problems either.

A replacement phone will most likely have the same issue.

Only thing that seems to help is blocking the rear microphone near the flash.

Either by putting your finger over it, or a piece of tape.

My 2 cents...This is either a software bug related to noise cancellation & the rear mic,

in some revision of ios 11.x.x, or a hardware issue within the audio codec chip on the logic board,

which only services cellular voice compression.

Also, I got rid of my SE 64GB (ios 11.4.1) which was having this issue.

Got a brand new 6S 64GB, manufactured in April of this year. It came with ios 11.3

Did not restore from backup, setup as a new phone.

Voice calls are clear as a bell.

Software update says that I can upgrade to 11.4.1, but too scared to do it.

Stangely, ios is not bugging me to update like it used to do. Haven't got any of those

"Software update available" popups. At least not yet.

I'm not going to install anymore updates until this issue has been acknowledged and resolved.

Which is dissapointing, because I'd like to sync and re-download my Messages.

people cant hear me on calls on iphone x
