iPhone X Ring Volume Low

Why does the ringer volume not increase when I attempt to use Ringer Up volume button or in the Settings?

Also, why does the ringer volume go very low after the first ring and we are not able to increase the volume so it stays louder?

1) When attempting to use the volume up button to increase the Ringer volume it increases the Volume for the sound but NOT the Ringer.

2) When I receive a call the volume is low and goes even lower on subsequent rings.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

I would change the ringer to/from silent then press the up button in an attempt to increase the ringer volume but it only increases the Volume for the sound (ie; music) but NOT the Ringer. The Ringer screen would pop up but it's immediately replaced with the Volume screen.

I went to Settings>Sounds & Haptics>Ringer and Alerts and increased the slider button to max (the sound would ring very loud). I also turned ON Change with Buttons (*the volume of the ringer and alerts can be adjusted using the volume buttons) but the Ringer volume would still be low when I would make a test call.

I spoke with 3 other iPhone X owners and when we performed a test call they, too, had the same issue.

UPDATE: After adjusting and readjusting the volume in the Settings for the ringer and turning the ringer ON/OFF on my iPhone X it suddenly began to ring normally with an incoming call. HOWEVER, the other 3 iPhone X's still have the very low ringing issue when a call comes in despite trying to fiddle with the settings as I did.

iPhone X lowers ringer volume if its face detection algorithm determines that you’re looking at the phone, in which case an audio cue is no longer needed.

It should ring normally when the screen is off, or you’re not looking at it.

Question; Have you tried looking at your phone when a call comes in to see what happens then? If not, try it. Have someone call you while you are looking at your phone. I'd be interested to know what happens. Then lay your phone on the table, don't look at it and have them call it again and see what happens. I would like to know if yours is responding the same as mine.

I was due to get a new phone and was going to stay with Samsung, but then I bought a new car which only has Apple Car Play. So... The iPhone X is my first iPhone...but I HAVE had an iPad Air since it came out, so I haven't been totally living in the dark ages. Guess the good thing about that is I didn't need to unlearn a lot of stuff from previous iPhones. Since getting the volume issue straightened out, I don't have any complaints. I'm so glad that I bought a case and film shield as I've dropped it a few times (waist level 😮) without having any adverse effects. 😀 Sorry to hear you're unhappy with your X. If you're near an Apple store, I've found them to be VERY helpful here in the Los Angeles area--no question is a dumb question...and coming from a newby user, there have been some...In fact, I can't think of any company, for any product, that has such great customer support as Apple. I should have come over a long time ago...

I need to attend more classes at the Apple Store as I know I'm not using it to its full potential. I haven't tried the AirPods as I unfortunately wear hearing aids. A bluetooth device came with them for the TV which REALLY helps when it comes to hearing dialogue directly in my ear, but to transmit from any other type of device (like a cell phone or car infotainment), I would need to buy another bluetooth that's btwn $400 and $500. Maybe I should start a new thread to find out if anyone has found a less expensive alternative??!
