Same problem in Colombia. My iphone x always connect to 3G instead of LTE and the problem is that they charge me more when I'm not connected to LTE. Apple needs to do something to solve the problem. Is a very expensive phone to have this issues...
So the issue is that the A1909 model has a modem in the ATT version of the phone that causes a significant signal drop on LTE. ATT only has this model. Verizon has the A1865 Model which is much better.
Apple will continue to Ignore this issue and give you the run around because there is no fix short of returning the phones and starting over. I have spoken with 3 Apple senior managers who have each sent me a new A1909 model, all with the same issues. They all took me through the 10 steps on their site including connecting me with ATT to check outages and low signal (in Chicago - Right!).
If you are stuck with an ATT phone the only way to boost signal is to go into settings and cellular and turn off LTE. You will notice signal strength immediately comes right back up to 4Bars. You will still have 4G just not LTE so will be a bit slower. If you can transfer to Verizon you will get the A1865 Model keep your number and the problem goes away.
Good Luck
Unfortunately I have not seen nor do expect any acknowledgment from Apple that a problem even exists with cellular and WiFi coverage with the X. We just are left to get used to the problem and stop complaining.
Worse reception I have ever seen on a iPhone and I have had them all, my wife’s reception on her iPhone 6 Plus S is perfect when I am standing next to her with my X and people can’t hear me because they say I am breaking up, Terrible and I believe Apple will never admit they did something wrong.
Gosh, your story is sobering. Two Xs and a 6s, oof. I'm still going ahead with my plan to get a new X with the Qualcomm modem and probably change to Verizon as ATT had been demonstrably uninterested in improving cell reception in our California semi-rural area. I'm just hoping that with the better (?) modem and Apple waking up to their responsibility to make more reliable products and work on the software. Considering, though, selling this thing and getting a solid 7s. Ugh.
I ‘upgraded’ from a 6s (worked like a charm) to this X. Now I’m strongly considering to sell it and get ....? Is the 8 solid? 7? Which has a solid modem that works well with iOS at present? I’m at a loss what to do. Maybe just wait Apple out for a software fix. One of you guys said the Qualcomm modem is no better than the Intel. This has got to be a wider problem. Is it only being recognized by users with overall spotter cell service or ....?
Same problems. Live in Brooklyn, NY, never had any connectivity issues until I got this iPhone X....Indoors or outdoors during peak during non peak, signal strength usually between 1-3 bars. Never had any Lte or WiFi connectivity issues with my iPhone 6 Plus. Both phone on Verizon network.
Same problem. Poor signal during phone calls since upgrading from the 7plus to the iPhone X
Sick of people not hearing me (never had that before upgrading )
I’ve been with Apple 8 years and it looks like I will be returning the iPhone X for a refund.
Think there is some problems with this “new” phone. It’s got some problems. Think it has been rushed threw. And Apple will keep it quiet. But I’m going to video me taking the phone back to the Apple store
I’m returning mine within 14 days unfortunately and going back to the 7 Plus. Gutted and relived
Had the iPhone X for a few days, noticed a problem yesterday.
My wife and I were sitting across from each other in a coffee shop. On her iPhone 6 she had three bars of cell signal, on my iPhone X I had one bar. Over about twenty minutes I tried numerous times to connect to different web sites, phone indicated that it could not connect. During that time I shut down and restarted the X, no change. Meanwhile my wife was happily surfing the whole time. An hour later at our home location we both had three-bar signals.
My previous phone was an iPhone 6s Plus and on the small handful of occasions that we compared signals they were the same.
I've just read disconcerting information about Apple using different cellular modems in different models of the iPhone X. Model A1865 contains a Qualcomm modem which online commentators seem to agree is a superior modem both in performance and in its global adaptability to all types of systems. My Canadian model A1901 phone contains the Intel modem which commentators say is a weaker performer and which will not work on some cell systems (CDMA types) in other parts of the world.
To determine the model of a phone, tap Settings / About and tap the Model number; it will briefly reveal A1865 or A1901 (or A1902 for Japanese phones).
I’m thinking of making the switch to the A1865 model sold through the Apple USA store instead of my A1901 device. Too many connectivity issues with the A1901. The Intel modem is very poor compared to all of my other devices that all use Qualcomm, including previous and current iPhones (6s Plus, 7 Plus, and even 8 Plus). Challenge is how to get my hands on one, being in Canada. Apple USA won’t ship cross border and all models available here are A1901. The comment made by one of the posters above how he was sitting in a cafe unable to connect to anything is precisely the kind of ridiculous behaviour that I’m seeing. Devices were already swapped to no specific effect.
I have also provided Apple with a slate of logs from my device that they started to analyze but I am pretty tired of being their unpaid beta tester of a $1,500+ CAD device.
Heres my iphone x houston, Tx and my iphone 7 doesnt have these issues at all. Iphone x signal constantly goes up and down pathetic for the amount of money i’ve spent! Makes me want to return the phone! Im on att prepaid for about 4 years maybe more never had issues with my iphone 4, 5s, 6, 7, 8plus.
You have probably already tested this, but if not:
1. Test to disable WiFi assistant
2. Disable data under cellular
Is it the same?
I also recommend that if you have like > 2 years old SIM card, ask your carrier to give you a new one. Some technicians have told me that older SIM cards are not the same as the new ones.
Saw this just now: Update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
In saying what you’ve said. I was my daughters yesterday, and the router is no more than 5metres away from my ‘ X ‘ and it was struggling to stay connected!!
Who his front line ? Sorry
Didn’t Apple have this problem before ? Not sure which iPhone though!
As you say , yes I’m sure Apple are aware of this!!
And they should recall or fix the problem!!
It will be interesting to see how long it takes for Apple to admit there is a definite signal strength issue issue both cellular and WiFi on many of the iPhoneXs.
