Iphone X weak signals

I received my iphoneX yesterday and set it up with my previous cellular network. Since then i have noticed that signals strength is significantly weaker than before both at home and on the go. Call kept disconnecting while travelling. Never had any sumch problem on iphone 7 ios 11.1 and 11.2beta. I have tried ringing apple care and they have asked me to reset network settings which i have done but issue is still there. My old iphone 7 at same network and same ios is in my other hand showing full signal strength. Is it an issue with iphoneX signal antenna?

Same issue here, extremely poor signal in Chicagoland area with the X. Previous models didn’t have this issue.

The bad news is that a replacement probably won't resolve the problem. I've had an A1901 model go through all the trial balloons suggested by Apple techs, and then be replaced completely, with no improvement. I've had an A1865 model completely erased and restored by an Apple tech, replaced the SIM at his suggestion, and switched to a different case at his suggestion.

None of these changes have resolved the problem... I've got two iPhone Xs that I cannot rely upon, and have started keeping my old 6s with me for times when the iPhone X is failing. (The 6s has always worked reliably, and still does.)

Reading back you'll find that lots of others have also been through the try-this, try-that, replace-the-phone experience without getting a reliable cell phone. Something in the iPhone X has been overlooked by Apple, and a lot of us are waiting for news that they've figured it out and will be redressing the problem for customers like us.

Gosh, your story is sobering. Two Xs and a 6s, oof. I'm still going ahead with my plan to get a new X with the Qualcomm modem and probably change to Verizon as ATT had been demonstrably uninterested in improving cell reception in our California semi-rural area. I'm just hoping that with the better (?) modem and Apple waking up to their responsibility to make more reliable products and work on the software. Considering, though, selling this thing and getting a solid 7s. Ugh.

I ‘upgraded’ from a 6s (worked like a charm) to this X. Now I’m strongly considering to sell it and get ....? Is the 8 solid? 7? Which has a solid modem that works well with iOS at present? I’m at a loss what to do. Maybe just wait Apple out for a software fix. One of you guys said the Qualcomm modem is no better than the Intel. This has got to be a wider problem. Is it only being recognized by users with overall spotter cell service or ....?

As I have said in previous posts it has nothing to do with the internal modem, network connections, SIM card, rebooting, erasing /restoring and all the other useless things Apple Support has you do. This is a reception problem for both cellular and WiFi signal for the iPhone X. I just left an indoor event surrounded by people using their phones for data, voice, texting, etc while I couldn’t use my IPhone X for anything. I have no idea if the iPhone 8 is any better but my 6 and 7+ never had these issues in all the same places where the X is useless. Great camera and other features completely negated by inadequate reception.

After upgrading to the X from a 6s, I immediately noticed the weaker signal. Exchanged the Intel model for the Qualcomm model, but no difference. If people are saying the 8 has the same issue, it must be something to do with the glass back / antenna... definitely a hardware issue. Hoping they come out with an SE2 so I can sell this overpriced POS. Love the X, but if it can’t do a good job at it’s primary function it’s not worth it.

Same here. At the Bar of the Geniuses last week, reset to factory for a third time, told to see if problem resolved before a restore of my backup. Nope. Restored my most recent iCloud backup. Same. They offered me a new phone at appointment if all else fails but I'm questioning the utility of changing the phone. Wouldn't want to cause extra cost to Apple! 😉 I dream of having my old 6s back. Such a good phone, even though I really like the new interface of the X, screen, camera, etc.

I remember years ago there was a slightproblem with the new iPhone 4's cellular reception, users just roared. Then things got fixed because it seemed to be a generalized problem.

We are a group are having fairly severe problems. There is a clearly deteriorated level of function of the X in comparison to my previous 6s. But if this were a general problem, there would be so much screaming in the press! And I haven't seen much; have you?

So, Apple thinks our problems are just anomalous. In this thread it sounds like we have tried just about everything. What is the common factor in our cases?

I have been 'passing along' a legacy backup from phone to phone for a number of models and years. Apple suggested after a factory reset that I reinstall all the apps again from the AppStore, searching out all the purchased apps and restoring then to my device, rebuild my home screen and folders (for 200 plus apps), rebuild each app's individual settings, and abandoning any locally stored content of they are not cloud based.

I did the reset, tried the iPhone X for a few hours and the same poor cell reception or more frequently dropped signal seemed to be unchanged, so I gave up on Apple's experiment and restored from backup. It was just too onerous to rebuild my phone without proof of efficacy.

Have any of you more extensively tested the hypothesis of running your phone after a complete factory reset and found everything unchanged? If so, why isn't our problem a general problem?

Just grasping at straws 😢

An Apple Genius Bar technician saved my stuff to iCloud (I don't use iCloud) and did a completely factory reset. Took a long while for everything to restore, and during that period I was replacing the SIM card as he advised and trying various trouble spots.

Nothing at all had changed. My TWO iPhone Xs (an A1905 and an A1865) continue to be unreliable cell phones and unreliable data phones, especially compared to my 6s Plus and my wife's 6.

As I have said in previous posts all the tedious time consuming resets, and other shot in the dark solutions that tech support has you go through have zero effect other than wasting your time. You have a good point that you would think there would be a much bigger outcry from X users but without question there is something wrong with them and I suspect that if you are in areas that have full and strong coverage you may not notice a problem, but if you are in marginal areas it’s no comparison to the 6 or 7+ phones. That’s why I call it a “city” phone.

As You put it , I live in an Marginal area ie ( Rural area ) . And my service coverage has been updated to cover for 4G .

So I suggest you have a word with your supplier . Because my phone now works a treat . Not so good indoors i'll admit , but wifi covers that.....!

I have the A1901 model .

I did have issues with 4G coverage , but as I said . All sorted now....

Yes, indeed, my usual use area is a rural, more marginal one, hilly. All long accepted by the denizens; we typically still get LTE, 2-4 bars in the good spots

The issue has been that this phone seems to stop searching for a signal when I'm on the move. Say I'm in a spot with no bars. I start driving and go into areas that have long-standing known 3-4 bars LTE. Even after an hour, the phone says no signal. I've got to switch off and on airplane mode to get it to search for a signal. I believe that this is an Apple "feature" to preserve the ever-deteriorating battery life. Sure, I can force it to search, but on a $1200 phone? Never happened before on any iPhone I've had.

Practically, driving and using CarPlay it's a menace. I believe Apple should build in an iOS cellular setting switch for "Rural Mode."

Hi, and thanks for your help with these questions: 1. What is the latest model iPhone that you've had that Didn't have these cell and wireless connection problems? I last had a 6s before buying a X, and the 6s worked fine.

2. If you've retained that prior model, has it continued to work about as well (say, also after replacing its battery) even after upgrading to iOS 11?

Thanks for your personal experience.

Jonathan
