Iphone X weak signals

I received my iphoneX yesterday and set it up with my previous cellular network. Since then i have noticed that signals strength is significantly weaker than before both at home and on the go. Call kept disconnecting while travelling. Never had any sumch problem on iphone 7 ios 11.1 and 11.2beta. I have tried ringing apple care and they have asked me to reset network settings which i have done but issue is still there. My old iphone 7 at same network and same ios is in my other hand showing full signal strength. Is it an issue with iphoneX signal antenna?

Same issue here, extremely poor signal in Chicagoland area with the X. Previous models didn’t have this issue.

Jonathan,

I have two iPhone Xs, an A1905 model and an A1865 model. Both are equally unreliable at cell service. I expect that both are equally unreliable at data (using the web) although I've had most of that trouble using the A1905 because...

I have an iPhone 8 that is used pretty much exclusively as a hotspot for other devices. It has been fairly reliable in this role, though it is NEVER used while I'm moving around, only when I'm settled somewhere. Because both iPhone Xs are so very unreliable I tend to do much more data / web stuff using an iPad through the iPhone 8 hotspot. I can NOT tell you that the iPhone 8 is a good reliable data phone, just that it's working OK in the limited role I have for it, and I hardly ever use it as a cell phone.

My iPhone 6s Plus was still fully-operational when these phones came out. I had it posted online to sell it after the first iPhone X (A1905) arrived, but within days took it down and have kept it. I now frequently have it with me along with an iPhone X because it continues to be a much more-reliable cell phone. I can drop or fail to make a call with the X, pick up the 6s Plus and immediately make the call successfully, sometimes in exactly the same location, sometimes just a short distance down the road.

My wife's iPhone 6 is still fully-operational. I've been in a few situations in which one or the other of my iPhone Xs will not connect to data or make a call, and her phone works perfectly. If you think she'd restrain herself from taunting me about spending so much money on two iPhone Xs that flat out don't work properly on cell networks (I've used mine on two different networks, in places all over North America) you'd be wrong.

All of our phones are carefully kept up to date with latest software. Don't let anyone tell you that these issues are related to iOS, or to your SIM card, or to your phone needing a reset, or to failings by the cell phone company. They are not. These "solutions" have been tried by many here, and they make no difference at all. There is an issue with the iPhone X hardware, and many of us are hoping that Apple steps up to it soon.

So, sure sounds like my 6s was the solid solution 😞. And I sold it!

1. Are all or most of you in rural or semi-rural areas where you've got spotty cell service? My problems seem to really get worse after I've been out of range of the nearest tower and then go back in. Yesterday I drove from nothing into 2-4 bar reception (as indicated on X's home page) but phone, text, texting all gave errors that I had no internet connection. Modem designs implemented by Apple must be no good.

2. Anyone tried the 7 or 7s in comparison to X?

3. Why isn't this problem all over the place? I'm just not understanding why we're getting hammered and others not.

Lates model i have is a iphone 7 and that has better reception and faster download speeds believe it or not. My wife has the 8 and she is with spring which is garbage service, but she gets more reliable service then my iphone x. Second my iphone 7 i’ve had for a year and didnt replace battery gave it to my 7 yr old. I did check signal strength and the iphone 7 wins. Hopefully this will

Well as I have mentioned in several previous posts the iPhone 7, my previous phone, worked perfectly iin all the same locations my current iPhone X fails badly in. My wife now has the 7 so it’s easy to compare on a regular basis and there is no comparison. But it is actually worse than just a cellular signal problem, the X is significantly worse at receiving my in home WiFi signal which was no problem with any of the previous iPhones I had. So I am afraid this is an internal antenna issue with no easy solution for the existing X phones that have the problem.

Having same issue in columbus Ohio on iPhone X. Have Verizon. Was told there was a tower issue nearby causing all my problems at home but that’s since been fixed. Today Verizon told me they contacted Apple support and they are aware of this issue and are working on an update to fix, hopefully by the end of the month. Hope it’s true because this is an expensive paperweight.

Well that is the first time I have heard that Apple is aware of the problem and are working on it. If true they should come out with an official statement that they acknowledge the problem, what it is and how they intend to fix it. Until I see that I remain doubtful this is being addressed other than useless resetting of network connections, resetting the SIM cards, resetting or reloading the phone, etc etc. it all has no effect.

I CURRENTLY OWNED AND IPHONE X SOFTWARE VERSION 11.2.6 IF U ACCESS THE SETTINGS MENU AND GO TO CELLULAR THEN GO TO CELLULAR DATA OPTIONS AND WHERE IT SAYS ENABLE LTE IF U DISABLE LTE YOUR SIGNAL STRENGH WILL IMPROVE BUT U WILL NOT BE USING LTE DATA IT WILL BE 4G THATS AT LEAST WITH MY CARRIER SERVICE WHICH IS ATT. SO THATS IT THANKS AND HOPE THAT HELPS.

An Apple tech suggested this to me when I reported problems with my first (A1905) iPhone X but I refused on the grounds that I'd just paid a high price for the latest and greatest phone on the market and wasn't going to cripple it by disabling LTE.

Later, I did it anyway for a few days and found that most often the phone went to 3G, not 4G. It was very noticeably slower, unacceptably slow, and I soon re-enabled LTE and continued to cope with connection failings because when it did work, it performed as a modern cell phone should perform.

The disable-LTE suggestion often made by Apple may be acceptable to people who are in very-thoroughly-cell-covered urban environments and who don't care much about performance. It sure wasn't acceptable to me.

Ditto. Why spend $1200 then be stick with 4- or even 3-G?

Apple support guy was straight with me, though. After replacing my iPhone X still didn’t help, he said leave a comment at apple.com/suggestions which i did. I do like all the other functions of this phone very much and am split what to do. Still considering selling it and buying a used 6s or 7.

Sorry they took your post down. I dont think you where ranting. When you spend $1000-1500 on a phone! By the way my alienware laptop cost 2k gaming of course. Thats a high proce tag! And there better be no issues! Apple should have waitied to release the phone. I wouldve understood its a whole new iphone! By the way my ear receiver stopped working, had to contact apple support and they advised me to restore the phone to new. Which i did and bam my ear reciever works. There definitley havig software issues! On a good note though. My att signal has gotten better now! Finally getting 3-4 bars more ofter now! But ocassionally goes back to 2. So idk if they’re working with carrierrs or not but im hopoing so!
