Iphone X weak signals

I received my iphoneX yesterday and set it up with my previous cellular network. Since then i have noticed that signals strength is significantly weaker than before both at home and on the go. Call kept disconnecting while travelling. Never had any sumch problem on iphone 7 ios 11.1 and 11.2beta. I have tried ringing apple care and they have asked me to reset network settings which i have done but issue is still there. My old iphone 7 at same network and same ios is in my other hand showing full signal strength. Is it an issue with iphoneX signal antenna?

Same issue here, extremely poor signal in Chicagoland area with the X. Previous models didn’t have this issue.

If this was simply a matter of an IOS update it would have fixed long ago. This most likely is an antenna/hardware issue which leaves those affected with not much hope of a solution. You would think by now they would have stopped having owners resetting network connections, pulling out SIM cards, erasing and starting over and simply tell them the truth.

Interesting. Did it start after 4 months of use? I think all of us had the problem from day one.

Just to update you all on my progress, I have taken the phone to an Apple store in London and the Genius ran two hardware tests on the phone and said there’s no actual hardware issue with the phone and I have to check with my carrier. For your information I have tested with my sim on iphone 8 and iphone 7 with no issues at all. I noticed the call drop happnes when the phone switches from 2g to 3g or 3g to LTE etc. Any idea how I can convince apple to give me a replacement and prove about the specific call drop? Because at Apple store it never happens...

I’ve done everything suggested in the article following the link. Most of these things I’ve done twice. I’ve had the phone exchanged for a new one. I’ve toyed with changing from AT&T to Verizon, but others have told me that does not improve the problem.

The 6S iPhone had a much better performance than this telephone. I usually have one bar less than the 6S in most locations in my small city. I cannot fathom how this would be allowed as I have paid $1100+ for the iPhone X. Disappointed is an understatement.

I have the A18$5 model and have the exact same issues others are reporting here. My husband has signal on his 6s+ when I have none. Because I depend so heavily on my phone, I even switched networks (from ATT to Verizon), and had Apple replace the phone. Same problem. In desperation I went and got a galaxy S9 SS an experiment, and can make and receive calls from the Galaxy when my iPhone X is completely unable. It’s a maddening situation, because the iPhone X is so much better to use, if only it worked

I have had connectivity issue since first week i got my iPhone X. My iPhone screen shows full signal bar LTE, but unable to connect to the internet. Never had problem with previous generation of iphone. Been fighting back and forth and they always come up with excuses like my carrier, wait for next IOS update, restore to system settings... The only way to resolve this issue is by restarting my phone and next day it happens again. Customer service recomended me to record a video which i did, retail staff didn't want to see it and restored my phone to factory setting... again. I have been using Apple for 10 years and i won't ever again.

Since I have had the same problem with two different carriers since I have had the same problem with two different carriers (ATT and Verizon), I am pretty sure the problem is not related to the carrier. However, Verizon engineers are supposedly looking into it. I also again contacted Apple tech support, they sent me yet another iPhone X, same problem. I then went to Apple and bought a new iPhones 6S plus, and it works! I have been carrying both phones with me for the last few days, and have noticed a number of occasions where the 6S plus shows bars when the X does not, and not surprisingly I am able to make calls on the 6S plus, but not on the X. I even restored the X from an iTunes backup of the 6s+. Both are running iOS 11.3. Same problem. Bottom line is that I have done extensive troubleshooting, using my (uncompensated) time and my money to buy the various phones, and to wait on hold and at the Apple Store, and to go through the various numerous troubleshooting steps with both AT&T and Verizon. It appears that I have successfully ruled out the issue as emanating from the operating system, or from the network. That only leaves the iPhone X as the source of the problem. As one more piece to the puzzle, I intend to go tonight and buy an iPhone 8 plus, and see if that one is better than the 10 or the same. However, no matter what, I paid for an iPhone X, and have nothing but difficulties with it in terms of signal. In all other respects it is a great phone.

Apple owes us a solution to this problem immediately.

Well, I've had the same problems over months but have not gone to near the expense and trouble that you have to prove the defect lies with the iPhone X.

A question: remember years ago when there was a stink in the press about a new iteration of iOS showing a bar fewer and seemingly having poorer reception? It was huge until Apple published a fix. There is a real problem now, but why is there almost zero news about this in the press? There are so many people that would like to throw mud on Apple but I hear nothing. Are there just a few of us experiencing or concerned about this?

So, the only variable I can come up with is my semi-rural residence status and the fact that I travel 'out back' in America a lot. (I do remember one of us still having lousy reception in an urban area), but are most of us in semi-rural settings which might make this deficit more glaring?

For example, it truly seems ATT doesn't give a hoot about rural reception on their network. Verizon appears to make greater efforts to cover more of the map. Could it be that rural users (who tends to be fewer in number and are poorer) make the rural market less worth Apple's while to fix this problem?

I'm fishing, I know. What do you think?

I bet you don't remember Apple's solution; change the settings for the bars, so for the same signal strength it would show an additional bar. And for most people that "fixed" the problem, because their phones now showed the same number of bars as their friends. The poorer reception was entirely subjective.

Bars are a terrible way to show signal strength, as there is no standard in the industry for what signal strength a bar represents. Every phone model is different. There is a way to put the phone into diagnostic mode and read the actual signal strength in dBm. that is the only way to actually compare phones.

Bars notwithstanding, there can be no arguing with the fact that I am carrying two phones with me wherever I go, and on the many occasions when I can't get or make a decent call on the X, I generally can on the 6S+. There is a clear difference. I live in suburban greater Ft. Lauderdale, a major metro area. Where we are is a teeny bit rural, however Verizon told me the nearest tower is about a mile from my house. Both Apple and Verizon have also told me that the wi-fi calling feature is important to hold signal when cell signal is weak, and the X also frequently drops the wi-fi connection although the 6s+ does not. I have a solid mesh network in my house.

Today I was in downtown Ft. Lauderdale with both phones in tow. Same situation, at times I had no problem using the X, but when I did have problems, I still had no problems using the 6s+

P.S. Verizon did have me put iPhone X#2 in 'field test' mode the other day, which is a serious diagnostic mode with many readings, and they told me that the signal readings for my phone were wacky (much greater than -120 although constantly moving around).

Jul 25, 2018 4:47 PM in response to Lawrence Finch

No indeed, I didn't remember that prior 'solution.'

I was able to use a command in iMessage to enter a diagnostic mode and measure actual signal strength on my old 6s with a prior iOS version but no more.

Do you know what would work now to get that info? Might be useful to document with 'hard figures' the actual differential side by side of 6s, 8s and Xs, while all are on 11.4.

Jul 26, 2018 6:55 PM in response to Lawrence Finch

Strangely enough, although I can find a record under my profile on A. communities of all my posts, no matter how abstruse, since 2011, there is no mention that I am subscribed to this 'weak cell strength' thread. I still receive emailed notices of others' submissions to the thread. Are we pariahs?

By the way, using field test, two bars = -104 and three bars = -99 dB. Abysmal.
