It does not work at 5-6 celsius degrees. I tested it. The 0 celsius is absolutly impossible.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you are having some issues with the flash on your iPhone when it is cold out. I'm not sure how cold we are talking, but you may want to make sure that you are using your iPhone within the range outlined below:

- Nonoperating temperature: −4° to 113° F (−20° to 45° C)

It was today +3Celsius, but can’t make photo with flash, just blinking like in this video!
My brothers **** 100eur samsung phone had no issue, we had to use his phone camera... it was a shame!
I am having exact same issue with iPhone 8+. Attempted to take pictures in the dark, outside, in about 1 degree Celsius weather. This is a serious limitation that I have never experienced in 9 years of owning iPhones. Here in canada, we need this to work since it’s cold and dark out for half of the year... how do we escalate?
sorry didn't read your second post. i think its the new slow sync flash. I also think its software. Take a live photo with flash on and you can hear the flash on the live photo. Very annoying design flaw
Literally just had the same problem. I went outside to take some pictures with my girlfriend in the snow and the flash wasn’t working. The torch was always working when we were outside and then when we got back home and the iphone 8+ warmed up the flash on my camera was working again. Its not just apples camera app, it didnt work with 3 different camera apps. To be honest the iPhone didn’t feel that cold. I hope there’s a fix coming for this.
I live in northern Minnesota and I like to take pictures of the Christmas themed park here in Duluth, and I cannot because the flash will not work for me and it’s a disgrace that I cannot take photographs. Minnesota is cold, year round and I hate to turn to androids for photos. They need an update that includes a fix for this problem. I like taking pics with others outside at nighttime but I simply cannot because of the weather. During the winter it’s 20 down to -20 degrees Fahrenheit usually and that doesn’t help at all.
Have the same problem Iphone 8 plus . 11.1.2, flash doesn't work when it is chilly ( not mention when it is really cold) , neither does the flash light - you can bring it to life only after bringing it to warm enwironment - will say more - problem starts from even 12C!!!
I’ve had the same issue since I purchased the 8 plus, to be told when I go into the apple store that it’s my issue and I can pay to get it fixed. A manager from the store also stated he reads the forums every night and hasn’t come across the issue when I said a lot of people are having the issue. Hmmmmmm.

Yep I got far with my case they gave me 3 iPhone 8 pluses and my case went on for weeks I’ve been thobbed of now and basically told Cameras only good outside at night if you live somewhere like florida 😂😂
Agreed. I was quite tempted to switch to Samsung with its beautiful S8 display but having invested in the Apple ecosystem and I am very happy with their other products I was partly tied into buying the 8+ but also really looking forward to all the upgrades I would get coming from the 5S including the wireless charging.
Unfortunately I had to return the first 8+ after getting the crackle in the earpiece while making phone calls which was made worse by the update. I was furious when I went to the Apple shop after paying £1000 and them telling me they would run some diagnostic checks. I said no way, you are going to replace my phone as it’s a technical fault.
Then there’s this fault where the flash doesn’t work in the cold! I don’t like not being able to use features I’ve paid for. One of the reasons I bought this phone was for the portrait mode and slow sync flash. That’s ok when you can get the flash to work.
