Hi djtwok,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you are having some issues with the flash on your iPhone when it is cold out. I'm not sure how cold we are talking, but you may want to make sure that you are using your iPhone within the range outlined below:
Environmental Requirements
- Operating ambient temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)
- Nonoperating temperature: −4° to 113° F (−20° to 45° C)
- Relative humidity: 5% to 95% noncondensing
- Operating altitude: tested up to 10,000 feet (3000 m)
iPhone 8 - Technical Specifications - Apple
Use iOS devices where the ambient temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might cause the device to change its behavior to regulate its temperature. Using an iOS device in very cold conditions outside of its operating range might temporarily shorten battery life and could cause the device to turn off. Battery life will return to normal when you bring the device back to higher ambient temperatures.
Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable operating temperatures - Apple Support
Regards.
I have the same problem! I would be outside in temperatures between 37-45 F and the flash would not work. Then I would go inside to room temp and it would work. Can I get a replacement for this issue? I have a video proof
The answer is no. So far Apple says pretty much, too bad, not designed for outdoor pictures at night. So PLEASE call Apple and complain. They have told me no one is really complaining about this. They also say this forum is not an official complaint or tech support site.
Scott,
they don't will accept this. The last time the service employee discuss this with his colleagues while I was in the queue. After that he told me "no this is not known and not a problem please use iPhone according to specifications".
Because I have Apple Care + he told me please visit the next apple center and exchange iPhone 8 plus.
They don't want to open a problem case. This is clear for me. At this time they haven't time and ressources for this "problem".
By the way this is a part from Apple. "discussions.apple.com"
Me too! I use iPhone 8.
And I was teached temporary effective solution on Twitter. It is to turn on the light 🔦 by control center. If I turned on the light for 30 seconds by control center, Flash worked again!
Incidentally, In the case of 20 seconds, Flash worked again. But Flash didn't become to worked soon. Only a few photos.
Hello.. i have the same problem on my iPhone 8 Plus. I change it 2 times and I have again the problem. I can understand the temperature conditions for using the iPhone that you wrote but I cannot understand when is in the 7-10 degrees Celsius not working.
Also I used flash alerts for calls and text messages..
Not working!!
I’m thinking to sell it one more time and get the iPhone X otherwise I return on iPhone 6!!!
A lot of people have the same issue..Apple could inform the customers if this issue is software or hardware.when I spend a lot of money for a device I want to be functional 100%
Regards
Yeah, 37 degrees F and trying to take a picture of my broken car to show insurance. Really ***** I’ll have to wait until daytime and go to the tow yard to take a picture of the car for insurance. My 6S Plus took pics like this all day long. Ridiculous. Apple make this work! I’m inside your precious operating specifications.
Funny, I thought my iPhone 8 Plus was a rare reject that somehow slipped pass Foxconn QC. Now that I see almost 2000 people experiencing the same problem, I am now convinced this is just another bug, of many, in the septic tank of OS’s known as iOS 11. Really glad I made the move from Android to............this??? :^ \
It’s the same for me I paid around 1000 $ for this phone that I was waiting so long ! This is a big mistake from Apple. It’s sad !!!! Can’t believe it ! It’s not fair!! Big deception Apple!! Must do something quick to repair it !!!!
Mee too bro. I live in Australia and the winter her can get really cold. Whenever i would take a photo and be using flash and its 4 degrees celcius. My flash, flashes for a split second but then nothing. So when the picture is taken there is no flash.
Same problem in Bilbao, Spain, with + 11º C. Send it to repair to Apple 6 times, received 4 replacements, from different Apple storehouses of Europe. All the iPhones that I’ve received had the same problem. When you receive the new replacement and you notify again the issue to Apple with the new iPhone that you have received, they don’t answer your mails. So you have to create a new case and tell all from the begging to the new assistant.
Put a complaint on the Store, official distributor of Apple. They only give u the option to send it again to get a new replacement, but it will have the same issue. Video of the flash not working https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQu_Xh0vlDQ
Please sign the next request that I have notified in changes.org to have a solution to this issue. https://www.change.org/p/apple-iphone-8-iphone-x-flash-cámara-no-funciona-cuando -temperatura-ambiente-inferior-a-11-c Share it.
Thanks
tested in iPhone 8 plus 64 Gb & iPhone 8 Plus 256GB
also happens in iPhone X
Totally disappointing
Same here I’m in Vic and it’s 3 degree’s currently and my flash won’t work so apples theory of working order between 0-35 degree is false advertising and admission. Also focus is crap on the iPhone 8 Plus, my iPhone 6 camera was way better, talk about a step backwards iPhone!
Hi, have the same issue with both my iPhone 8 plus, and my wife’s iPhone 8. +4 degree C.
Hope it is a software problem and Apple fixes it soon.
This is my video from iPhone 8 flash problem is cold weather (6 Celsius).
Please go report it: https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
