Hi djtwok,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you are having some issues with the flash on your iPhone when it is cold out. I'm not sure how cold we are talking, but you may want to make sure that you are using your iPhone within the range outlined below:
Environmental Requirements
- Operating ambient temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)
- Nonoperating temperature: −4° to 113° F (−20° to 45° C)
- Relative humidity: 5% to 95% noncondensing
- Operating altitude: tested up to 10,000 feet (3000 m)
iPhone 8 - Technical Specifications - Apple
Use iOS devices where the ambient temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might cause the device to change its behavior to regulate its temperature. Using an iOS device in very cold conditions outside of its operating range might temporarily shorten battery life and could cause the device to turn off. Battery life will return to normal when you bring the device back to higher ambient temperatures.

Regards.
I’ve done it too! I’m from Italy and I’m experiencing the exact same issue with my iPhone 8 Plus.
First you should contact Apple Care and complain and report as bug as well on the feedback page.
Well, if you feel like you have enough time for that.
They swapped out the camera/LED module on mine and later replaced the whole phone. None of that solved the problem.
What does it mean? Apple is already working on a fix?
If this is a accu saver function (this is a ****) then my question would be just how much we have the devices that match????
When its a function, then the devices that dont make this are wrong????
They told me that in the service.
Great point, giop.
I have a friend at Apple. I will see what I can posdibly find out for you all based on the info here
Hate that some users are having this issue... 😑
Hi thanks a lot. The force restart does not work on my X. only the flashlight trick. What do you mean by force restart? Reboot with button combination
Thanks
Hi Sebbl,
Very welcome.
Yep, that's the one/combo to force restart :)
does not get the flash to work on my X, only the flashlight trick. Where to do live? USA?
Yep...I'm in the states.
Maybe the X triggers the unfreezing a bit differently and like you mentioned, via the flashlight method
Lets hope for a software fix as I don't want to swap my phone. My 7 did not have that issue
Crossing my fingers one will appear asap
