I have had the X for three weeks now, just updated to 11.2 last night, but began having "ghost touch" issues with the screen early yesterday morning. I've had a case on since day one, and I have NOT dropped the phone. I do not live in cold weather, so it's not THAT bug. The main problem here is that when I hover my thumb or finger a few millimeters over the middle row of icons on the home screen, WITHOUT ACTUALLY touching it, the phone begins to go wild and open and close random apps, and scroll up and down by itself inside the app. It's as if a ghostly hand is trying to push every button as fast as possible. This happens several times per hour now. This screen issue seems to affect the middle row of icons on the home screen, as these are the apps that keep opening and closing by itself. I have a video of the issue happening as well, and it shows me trying to close the apps and the apps opening themselves again and switching to different home screens.

Same exact problem. Verizon didn’t want to replace the device until I emailed them links from these forums saying it’s a known issue and many people have had the same problem. Lets hope apple fixes it before the new devices come out.

Verizon did send me a refurbished phone, which is fine because I’ll eventually upgrade. If the problem happens on the new phones after September that would be the final straw and I’d switch back to android. $1000 phone, $1 trillion company and a lot of unhappy customers.

Hello! Not sure if you’re still having the issue, but I was having an issue with the ghost touch as well. For me it seemed to great progressively worse. I took my iPhone X to the Apple Store (with no appointment) and they replaced my screen for me right there, at most cost as it’s within warranty. It only took an hour, but I haven’t had an issue since then! Hope this helps, if you’re still having the ghost touch problem!

I had the ghost touch issue for a while. Went to Genius Bar and they said it was a software defect. Said a complete restore would solve the problem. So that is what I did and within a few days if it was happening again. Went back to Genius Bar and they said the problem was a defect in my screen and that I had to get my screen replaced. So they replaced my screen and I am no longer experiencing the problem. At least as of yet.

Had my iPhone X for about 2 months, and it can’t go more than 8-10 mins of straight use without it moving by its self and disabling me from using it. The bottom half inch of the screen where the touch bad is is useless when this happens. RIGHT NOW IT MOVING. Like I didn’t pay a $1000 to not be able to use this phone. Disappointed. Unhappy. ******.

I had this problem on my iPhone X purchased in July 2018. Contacted Apple support, they were very helpful with some troubleshooting steps. After the steps did not resolve the ghost touch, they sent me a new phone free of charge although they did put a hold on my credit card.. I had to ship the old phone back and then the hold was removed . So far new phone is working fine but it took a month for my old phone to start acting up. I am hopeful this phone is OK. The Apple Support people are very knowledgeable and helpful.

Your phone is less than a year old, so it is still covered by warranty. So there is no cost to an iPhone X user unless it was physically damaged. There is never a charge for the Genius Bar unless an out-of-warranty repair is needed and then you pay only for the repair, not the diagnosis.

As I and others have posted several times restore the phone and set up as new and if the problem persists the phone needs a new screen.

I have the same problem. The issue happens consistently after I've been using the phone for 30+ minutes (usually playing a game). The screen will start "flipping" out acting as if I'm touching the screen in different places when I'm not touching it and I can't clear out apps I've been using. I have to reboot the phone to get it to work properly. I've got an appointment in two days with Apple Genius store > my guess of what will happen, I'll take the phone in and they will run diagnostics, everything will appear fine to them, I'll insist that I have this problem, they'll have me reset my phone as a new phone (not from back up - because that's the "go-to" solution now for every problem I've learned). I'll get home and my phone will still have the same problem. I'm hoping to get this issue video recorded as proof for when I go in.

Side Note: There's bad history with dealing with Apple's support, I have an iPhone X and I use the Apple Upgrade Program where I pay $56.16/month for my phone. Within the second month I noticed that my phone would either disconnect from my home wifi network when in another room or the signal speeds were very slow. I compared the speeds to my old iPhone 6 Plus (which I still had) and the download speeds on the 6 were more than twice the speed of my new iPhone X when connected to wifi. I talked with Apple support, went into the store and basically all the checked was if my phone connected to the network (and it did) so to them the phone was fine and nothing was done. Because of that I don't use wifi on my phone because it doesn't work right and I'm stuck in this situation. The phone is too expensive to have these kind of issues and the support doesn't seem to really listen/care, I love Apple but I'm getting close to the point of switching.

I get the same problem on my iPhone 6. I listen to YouTube vids as I fall asleep, but it starts skipping to random vids and clicking randomly. Once it called out 8 times to random contacts. So I switched to using my old iPhone 5 for listening to YouTube vids as I fall asleep. Same problem. Therefore: I discount that anything is wrong with the phone. The same problem suddenly emerging on 2 different phones makes no sense. Unless it is malware or a faulty Youtube app. I am at a loss. I figure getting a new iPhone won't solve this one.

I got this issue resolved by having apple reolace the screen. The night before I recorded the problem happening and I also went through apples online support process first. Then after their support determined that I needed to take my phone into a store I did and at the store they ran their diagnostic thing on my phone (which of course) did not show any problem. I had to debate one of their support people and showed them the video of my phone messing up until they finally agreed th replace the screen. Since the screen has been replaced I’ve not had the issue happen again.

Also so I talked to a manager in the store and they knew exactly what I was talking about, so apparently this issue has been happening to a lot of people.
