I had the same issue with iOS 11.4 and i resolved it this way (it never came up again):
This is not the normal procedure used to shutdown your iPhone (Volume Up button + Lock button) because it will also empty the cache.
Once you have powered off your iPhone DON'T POWER ON FOR ~30 MINUTES this step made the difference.
The ghost has vanished
I am also facing this issue since I upgraded to iOS 11.4
Seems strange to me that so many of us are experiencing such an annoying firmware flaw yet Apple did not publish an update so far...
Aren’t we talking about Apple’s state of the art device?
I got my iPhone X about 4 months ago and it started for me about 2 weeks ago, it happens randomly. I’m not sure whether to go to ATT or the apple store, any suggestions would be great! I’ve read a few of these and some have said to do the hard reset and restore so I wasn’t sure if I should just do that?
I have Sprint but went to Apple. Mine was just random at first but then it got worse and worse to where it would make calls and I had to turn off Amazon one-click shopping! The first visit the did a hard reset which worked for only a few hours. Next visit they agreed to replace the front of my phone. Thankfully I was only a few months into my warranty so it was at no cost to me. It’s been five ever since.
My wife's iPhone X started having this issue after updating to 11.4.1. Her phone is completely unusable, opening random apps, pressing random things on the screen, scrolling about, and you can even "hover touch" it and type tons of gibberish...or just let it type for itself. The weirdest part is it doesn't happen all the time. It just randomly does it for hours, sometimes a reboot makes it go away, sometimes it doesn't.
Is Apple doing anything about this? I guess we'll have to schedule a genius bar appointment. The phone is not even 1 year old so it's still under warranty.
I'm sorry, but there was nothing in the link you posted that remotely sounds like the original problem. For those of us having the same problem as the OP, your link was really a waste of time, and I can't figure out at all why you posted it.

I’m sorry that you didn’t bother to read past a first attempt at quantifying the problem posted 8 months ago. If you had you would have learned that the solution is to make a Genius Bar appointment to get your phone with it’s hardware problem replaced. That was also on the first page of the thread.
That was certainly one solution. There was also the possibility that the case was interfering with the screen. At any rate, the post I responded to was the first one that came up on this thread and deserved to be called out for its complete irrelevance and laziness.
Same exact problem. Verizon didn’t want to replace the device until I emailed them links from these forums saying it’s a known issue and many people have had the same problem. Lets hope apple fixes it before the new devices come out.
Verizon did send me a refurbished phone, which is fine because I’ll eventually upgrade. If the problem happens on the new phones after September that would be the final straw and I’d switch back to android. $1000 phone, $1 trillion company and a lot of unhappy customers.
Here to update on the issue, after I have removed my screen protector. It works fine for only 2 days. On third day, the unexpected touch (ghost touch) happen again when I was playing PUBG. I had my phone to send back factory for warranty claim. Disappointed on the quality.
Hello! Not sure if you’re still having the issue, but I was having an issue with the ghost touch as well. For me it seemed to great progressively worse. I took my iPhone X to the Apple Store (with no appointment) and they replaced my screen for me right there, at most cost as it’s within warranty. It only took an hour, but I haven’t had an issue since then! Hope this helps, if you’re still having the ghost touch problem!
I had the ghost touch issue for a while. Went to Genius Bar and they said it was a software defect. Said a complete restore would solve the problem. So that is what I did and within a few days if it was happening again. Went back to Genius Bar and they said the problem was a defect in my screen and that I had to get my screen replaced. So they replaced my screen and I am no longer experiencing the problem. At least as of yet.
Sent from my iPhone
Had my iPhone X for about 2 months, and it can’t go more than 8-10 mins of straight use without it moving by its self and disabling me from using it. The bottom half inch of the screen where the touch bad is is useless when this happens. RIGHT NOW IT MOVING. Like I didn’t pay a $1000 to not be able to use this phone. Disappointed. Unhappy. ******.
I had this problem on my iPhone X purchased in July 2018. Contacted Apple support, they were very helpful with some troubleshooting steps. After the steps did not resolve the ghost touch, they sent me a new phone free of charge although they did put a hold on my credit card.. I had to ship the old phone back and then the hold was removed . So far new phone is working fine but it took a month for my old phone to start acting up. I am hopeful this phone is OK. The Apple Support people are very knowledgeable and helpful.
I am also having this same issue. It now includes all the apps freezing and the phone will not allow me to restart. The first Apple response link was useless. What was the ultimate fix for the ghost screen? I am now on to the iOS 12 and the issue persists. my phone is less than 3 months old.
I mean, for example between December 2017 to January 2018 models iPhone X has same ghost touch problem.
I sent my phone Apple Store in Germany. They repaired it. Just replaced battery and speaker. But, ghost touch problem is still exist. I have to send it again.
