I had the same issue with iOS 11.4 and i resolved it this way (it never came up again):
This is not the normal procedure used to shutdown your iPhone (Volume Up button + Lock button) because it will also empty the cache.
Once you have powered off your iPhone DON'T POWER ON FOR ~30 MINUTES this step made the difference.
The ghost has vanished
@Lawrence Finch, what do you mean "Apple will fix any phone you contact them about" ? That is not my experience at all. Many of Apple's suggested fixes, including the genius bar are at a cost to the owner. My iPhone X is having the same issue, not plugged in, no case, no screen saver. Obviously a problem with the hardware or software.
Your phone is less than a year old, so it is still covered by warranty. So there is no cost to an iPhone X user unless it was physically damaged. There is never a charge for the Genius Bar unless an out-of-warranty repair is needed and then you pay only for the repair, not the diagnosis.
As I and others have posted several times restore the phone and set up as new and if the problem persists the phone needs a new screen.
I have the same problem. The issue happens consistently after I've been using the phone for 30+ minutes (usually playing a game). The screen will start "flipping" out acting as if I'm touching the screen in different places when I'm not touching it and I can't clear out apps I've been using. I have to reboot the phone to get it to work properly. I've got an appointment in two days with Apple Genius store > my guess of what will happen, I'll take the phone in and they will run diagnostics, everything will appear fine to them, I'll insist that I have this problem, they'll have me reset my phone as a new phone (not from back up - because that's the "go-to" solution now for every problem I've learned). I'll get home and my phone will still have the same problem. I'm hoping to get this issue video recorded as proof for when I go in.
Side Note: There's bad history with dealing with Apple's support, I have an iPhone X and I use the Apple Upgrade Program where I pay $56.16/month for my phone. Within the second month I noticed that my phone would either disconnect from my home wifi network when in another room or the signal speeds were very slow. I compared the speeds to my old iPhone 6 Plus (which I still had) and the download speeds on the 6 were more than twice the speed of my new iPhone X when connected to wifi. I talked with Apple support, went into the store and basically all the checked was if my phone connected to the network (and it did) so to them the phone was fine and nothing was done. Because of that I don't use wifi on my phone because it doesn't work right and I'm stuck in this situation. The phone is too expensive to have these kind of issues and the support doesn't seem to really listen/care, I love Apple but I'm getting close to the point of switching.
I went to Apple store and replaced an set for me already
I have the same issue with my phone after the ios 11.2 update. It’s very annoying!!
Video of the issue.
Yes, miguel0oo! Your video looks exactly like the video I recorded of my ghost touch issue. I am having the exact same problem.
I don’t know what’s going on. Also I don’t want to get my phone replaced with a refurbished one.
Bought last night. Brought it home and has this problem. Phone totally unusable brand new. Terrible!
Update: Exchanged the brand new (defective) phone for another brand new phone today at Verizon Store. I am appreciative of the excellent customer service I received.
Yeah, it would be nicer to get the serial number box along with the phone.
Do you have any other information? The links only refer to software issues and do not refer to the referenced problem of the ghost screen touch...
got same issue on a brand new one. opened support claim and sending it now to apple.
I also captured the crazy ghost touch behavior on another iPhone just in case. It certainly provides irrefutable evidence that there is an issue.
