Iphone 8 plus microphone issues

The microphone on my iphone 8 plus is constantly fading in and out. I may have a perfectly fine conversation over the phone for 10 minutes or so, but in the end I always end up having to switch to the speaker because the people on the other end can’t hear me.

Anyone else experience this? What can I do?

Getting nasty is really not me. I am a Diplomat and not part of my fabric but emergencies are hourly and being unheard is dangerous. ATT is not the common carrier issue. I am in Spain on business and walked into Apple Store here. Three Apple Associates acknowledged the issues to my face yet said not carrier related and speculated Mic problem and not software issue. Glad you are running. Wondering about the other people on the previous 5 pages complaining same issues. Oh well, guess we are the minirity. 😏 best to you.

I really feel badly for you that you are having so many problems.

My experiences over the past several months with my three different iPhones and the microphone issue were so frustrating. I got irritable at one point with one guy and he just kind of shrugged it off.

With all the other crap that we have to deal with this was one problem that really got to me.

Right now it seems to be resolved but I keep waiting for something to happen because I do not trust this phone. Also, at one point, one of the advisers mentioned that he was aware of a microphone issue. Then he backtracked and kind of denied this. They are trained not to reveal any information about what is going on with complaints from other customers. Until there are thousands and thousands of people complaining about the same issue they will not address it.

That’s what happened with my 6S phone. It’s suddenly started to take a dive with the battery going from 90 to 20 in two minutes.

That was because of all the updates they were doing and so many people complained that after five months they admitted it was their problem. Instead of giving free batteries which is what they should’ve done they made the generous offer of only charging $30 rather than 80 to replace the batteries.

I know other people with that model phone and nothing happened to their phones. I would’ve kept that phone because it was fine and the photos were just as good if not better than the 8+. I see nothing great about this phone except that it is heavier and his cries me a tremendous amount of stress.

When I fixed the microphone problem, it became a great phone. IOS is much better then android.

But I'am disappointed in apple to have this mic problem in the first place.

But especially,

I took it too the apple-store just after 14 days of testing, calling customer service, trying settings, updating etc.

They diagnosed the iPhone and said there was nothing wrong.

But still I insisted to sent for repairs anyway, because I couldn't use the phone.

After about 7-14 days it got back and I went to the shop to get it.

Nothing was repaired and the call quality for the receiver was still very bad.

So did a test for 15 minutes in the shop. I called my self on the iPhone and got voicemail.

Put another phone with a talk program aside. The recorded voicemail was very very poor and they agreed to that.

But still, because they had sent it to repairs and nothing was found, I had to pay 40 bucks!

Spent about 2-3 hours in that shop till closing time.

Later I got through another channel the phone replaced, and the new iphone 8 had the same problem but a bit less.

This is the worse iPhone I’ve ever had.

I phoned and raised my hearing issues on day 2 of having the dame phone. Been into Apple they ran a diagnostic check on it and confirmed that I had 2 flagged faults relating to the hearing.

They stopped it for a refurbished one and the same thing is happening.

So annoying to be having this problem.

I join your frustrations! 3rd phone, same issues. Looking at alternatives as Apple cannot admit Mic problem. Losing faith in this process, company and how can so many people w/7-8’s indicate same problems and this company not acknowledge + provide corrective process? Nothing stays the same. Bet Steve Jobs rolling in his grave with this... thx for message.

Ever since Verizon changed my Sim card and a few settings I seem to have no problem. Because of all the past issues and the months of frustration and hours and hours of dealing with this situation has left me with a tainted attitude toward this phone.

I probably should’ve spent an extra hundred dollars I’ve gotten the tan because I really need good photos. This phone is supposed to have good photos but the 6S photos are just as good.

I don’t like the portrait mode and I don’t take many videos which apparently this phone is good for. I don’t know what kind of issues the 10 has.

Where do you live? I live in New York. Maybe that could be the reason my issue was finally solved. I have seen messages from Australia and other parts of the country complaining of the same issue. I really hope that you get the problems with your phone resolved.

I can’t get rid of the worry that this microphone will go berserk again. Every time someone asks me to repeat myself or tells me they can’t hear me I question them as to exactly what they are hearing.

It seems silly to say that this whole episode was rather traumatic because it is only a phone however I was really going over the edge with this. I can only imagine how you must feel and I am incredibly sorry you are still experiencing the frustrations and anxiety caused by this situation. Not to mention the time wasted.

I have been corresponding with whaddabeach Who is also in this Apple support community complaining of the same issues.

We are both on our third phone. After months of dealing with second-tier Apple seniors on the phone and wasting countless hours going through all kinds of diagnostic test and jumping through a gazillion hoops

My problem seems to be finally resolved because I went to Verizon and they changed by seven card and a few settings. I live in New York and they said people in New York experience certain issues like this when their Wi-Fi setting is not

Good luck! Unless you bought it very recently they will never give you your money back. They will give you a new phone.

as I mentioned, I was on my third phone as is whaddabeach.

My problem was finally resolved after much pain.

I went to my carrier Verizon, and they put a new Sim card in and change some settings which had to do with my location.

The microphone issue finally disappeared and people are able to hear me.

Jun 16, 2018 7:40 AM in response to babette71

Me too! I bought a new iphone8 last month and had problems w people hearing me. I called Internet provider and Verizon both saying it wasn’t their problem it must be my phone. I got my phone replaced yesterday (big hassle) and I am experiencing the same problem.

Not sure what to do now. I had a 6 and didn’t have this problem. Now I don’t know what to do!!

Welcome to the many who are experiencing everything you are and more. Firstly, go to carrier and get them to replace SIM Card. It more than likely will do nothing. But it one less item Apple will try to say it is YOUR issue over there’s. You will not get any relief. Then go and back up your phone and let Apple replace it. Again, you will notice no difference. Then call Tech Support and ask for a Level III Tech Support Engineer. They will get you to restart the phone, then remove iTunes and replace it. Then check settings. Then check the Mic with the internal system of voice messages. Plan on packing lunch and dinner with water and maybe beer as you will need it. Plan on spending 5 hours of pure back and forth and no relief at all. Welcome to the many who are experiencing the same issues with zero fix in sight. Lastly, my 6 (went through 4 until the right one worked) and miss that phone. Really regret the upgrade to my 8S+. The web is full of reports on this yet at Apple, they act like you are the first one to report this.

Jun 16, 2018 10:38 AM in response to mpfromlakeview

Been there, done that and nothing. Best thing to do is keep calling Apple, ramp up complaints to Level III and get case numbers. They must address this sooner than later. Seen many very disappointed consumers who are talking other actions and utilizing certain rights and rememdies to elevate the awareness. This is totally unacceptable and even the ATT carrier is tired of the complaints and consumers walking in extremely angry. Press on and at some Point in time we believe Apple will be forced to address it. Good luck. To us all.

I have had issues with Mary 8+ phone from the get go! I am on my third phone. I have spent countless hours on the phone with Apple Seniors and technicians.

I have jumped through so many hoops and gone to the Apple Store until I want to take the phone and throw it in the garbage.

I thought I had the problem solved when I replaced the Sim card at Verizon.

They switched a few settings around and for the first time I was able to have a conversation without someone on the other and complaining that they couldn’t hear me, that my voice was fading in and out, that I sounded like I was in a title, that I was on Mars, or whatever.

All of a sudden today, the phone started acting up again. People can’t hear me. It is dropping calls right and left. I can’t go far from my Wi-Fi without the phone having all the old issues.

Apple will still not admit that it’s their problem although one person did mention he was aware that people were complaining.

Then he more or less deny that statement because they are all instructed not to give out any information to callers.

My next step would be to get another phone, definitely not an 8+, And go to AmericAn Express with all of my complaints and my discussions which I have saved, and try and get my money back.

And go to AmericAn Express with all of my complaints and my discussions which I have saved, and try and get my money back.

There are undoubtedly people who are happy with this phone.

I am disgusted with it and have Wasted too much time Dealing with this.

Good luck with your situation. It seems as though there are many lemons out there and we just happen to be unfortunately enough to have gotten stuck with them.
