Iphone 8 plus microphone issues

The microphone on my iphone 8 plus is constantly fading in and out. I may have a perfectly fine conversation over the phone for 10 minutes or so, but in the end I always end up having to switch to the speaker because the people on the other end can’t hear me.

Anyone else experience this? What can I do?

I did a few things that seems to have helped quite a bit. I set LTE to data only and disabled the background noise filter as others have suggested. I don't have anyone complaining now when I'm on speaker or not. I'm suspecting that the LTE thing is the culprit and not necessarily the microphone. The reason is that all other applications not making calls were able to hear just fine. I also downloaded a spectacular app called Lirum info. There is a lite version for free but you need to pay the 2.99 for the full version to test your microphones. Its a very complete diagnostic app that gives you access to nearly everything on the phone and full diagnostics. The tech at the genius bar was even a bit amazed when I brought my old Ip 6 plus in for a new battery! Anyhow I'm not trying to sell the app, but I tested all the microphones using it. They are all functioning perfectly. So, I know that disabling the LTE for calls was most likely what was causing the problem. At least in my case. I'm not sure what the LTE on calls does, but disabling it did nothing that I can detect to call quality or performance. But it did seem to fix the muffled mic issue for me. Apple needs to look at this.

I have been having this problem since the day I purchased my phone. I even received a new phone from Apple and it is doing the same thing. I have been working with Apple engineering for 3 months and still no results. I have att and they have tried to blame them but others on other networks are having the same problem. It has now been 8 months and I am very frustrated. Every hates to talk to me on my cellphone.

I had two iphone 8. The first one was worse then the second, but both had the same problem.

At the receivers end they had my voice fading in and out. People mentioned sometimes it sounded like I was under water. Couldn't have a clear conversation.

But the problem is solved and now I'am happy with my iphone 8. No more complaints from people.

Hmmm, that does not work. Have a apple purchased learher case and back speaker is covered. Plus, such a nice, expensive phone should not have to have tape on it. The 3rd new 8 they wanted to give me had same issues. Store in our town has said they can do nothing and same day there, 4 others were next to me at bar with same issues. Manager sent us to att but had already gone that route. Apple needs a solition and fast. People cannot hear when answering the phone.

Did everything you went through. Still same issues. Two new SIMcards. Nothing hacked. Car not hacked. Settings correct. Still same issues. W/ATT.

Hope Apple finds a fix soon, phone works good with iPods but hate to use them as battery does not last all day and look like an Alien😩 walking around town. Driving me crazy and getting frustrated to point apple warned me my attitude is not good. Ha! Thanks for your message

In Miami FL same issues but zero fixes. Tired of talking to engineers in Cuptertino and going to Apple stores and ATT and new SIM Cards and tape over this and that. Mic issues continue. Dont use the phone in car so that is no issue. ATT told me that many Apple 7/8 users are returning them w/same issues. Wiped out iTunes and rebuilt. They lost 100 paid for music and wint replace. Only using iPods do callers hear me. All settings are fine. To me it seems to be bad mic and like to know when Apple will have a fix? When you call them, only one or two engineers admit ‘hearing’ about it. Was so mad Apple warned me about my comments. Aeriously? Ok, so I will be pleasant but that gets me nowhere. Even 3rd replacement is same. Been looking at other brands as this is now 7 months going on and might just use this phone for music and nothing else. Why spend $900 for a music toy? Look like an idiot walking down street w/phone upside down yelling in speakers. Hear static. Hear buzz. 50% of time voice goes in and out. 99% of callers tell me they cannot hear me. Apple... what are you doing about this? Is everyone wrong and you are right? Furious over this.

This is the worse iPhone I’ve ever had.

I phoned and raised my hearing issues on day 2 of having the dame phone. Been into Apple they ran a diagnostic check on it and confirmed that I had 2 flagged faults relating to the hearing.

They stopped it for a refurbished one and the same thing is happening.

So annoying to be having this problem.

I join your frustrations! 3rd phone, same issues. Looking at alternatives as Apple cannot admit Mic problem. Losing faith in this process, company and how can so many people w/7-8’s indicate same problems and this company not acknowledge + provide corrective process? Nothing stays the same. Bet Steve Jobs rolling in his grave with this... thx for message.

I have been corresponding with whaddabeach Who is also in this Apple support community complaining of the same issues.

We are both on our third phone. After months of dealing with second-tier Apple seniors on the phone and wasting countless hours going through all kinds of diagnostic test and jumping through a gazillion hoops

Me too! I bought a new iphone8 last month and had problems w people hearing me. I called Internet provider and Verizon both saying it wasn’t their problem it must be my phone. I got my phone replaced yesterday (big hassle) and I am experiencing the same problem.

Not sure what to do now. I had a 6 and didn’t have this problem. Now I don’t know what to do!!

I intend to replace this phone. My husband has an android. It is five years old and I don’t know about cheap but it sure was not $900 like this piece of junk! He has never had a problem. I was unlucky enough to get one of the 6S phones where the battery dropped like a stone . Apple phone finally admitted that was their problem and gave everyone the generous offer of batteries for $30 instead of 80. They should have been free but not with Apple. I made the mistake of getting this 8+. I purchased it from the Apple store on the upper East Side in Manhattan.

I took it upstairs with me and immediately was getting complaints from everyone that I called.

I don’t want to give Apple $900 of my money so I intend to go after it through AmericAn Express to try and get a refund. I will send them samples of complaints from people on this group but of course Apple does not recognize this group as legitimate.

I have also saved the many, many emails I got from Apple concerning this problem and will do whatever it takes to get my money back.

I am very angry and I’m tired of throwing my money away to charlatans Like apple and will not back up their products.

Apple does monitor as they treatened me due in part to ranting they should be class action sued. They do not recognize this Mic fault and how do you argue w/thrm? They are bullies. My phone has same issues. Stop accepting their refurbished phones. Stop SIM card replacement. Does not work. I am convinced its a Mic supplier and apple does not want trn million phones back to replace.

Looking at other brands now. Apple has lost me as a consumer and ripped me off w/100 songs they wont replace. I have been in your shoes and done. Abdroid is no better. Vertue offers the best but at $2500. Fir a phone? Blackberry may earn my business and just keep this apple for music and stop using it as primary phone. Shame on Apple for not addressing!
