Iphone 8 plus microphone issues

The microphone on my iphone 8 plus is constantly fading in and out. I may have a perfectly fine conversation over the phone for 10 minutes or so, but in the end I always end up having to switch to the speaker because the people on the other end can’t hear me.

Anyone else experience this? What can I do?

I did a few things that seems to have helped quite a bit. I set LTE to data only and disabled the background noise filter as others have suggested. I don't have anyone complaining now when I'm on speaker or not. I'm suspecting that the LTE thing is the culprit and not necessarily the microphone. The reason is that all other applications not making calls were able to hear just fine. I also downloaded a spectacular app called Lirum info. There is a lite version for free but you need to pay the 2.99 for the full version to test your microphones. Its a very complete diagnostic app that gives you access to nearly everything on the phone and full diagnostics. The tech at the genius bar was even a bit amazed when I brought my old Ip 6 plus in for a new battery! Anyhow I'm not trying to sell the app, but I tested all the microphones using it. They are all functioning perfectly. So, I know that disabling the LTE for calls was most likely what was causing the problem. At least in my case. I'm not sure what the LTE on calls does, but disabling it did nothing that I can detect to call quality or performance. But it did seem to fix the muffled mic issue for me. Apple needs to look at this.

I have this problem as well with my iPhone 8Plus. Apple Support and the people at their Genius Bar have not been helpful at all and refuse to acknowledge there is a problem. I have already changed phones once as no one could hear me, and now with the 2nd replacement phone the same problem has started happening again after several months. Even if I shout down the phone they say my voice keeps fading in and out, to the extent that a conversation is impossible.

I have had various iPhones from the 5 onwards, and have never had any problems. So it's not me. Frustratingly the microphones work when I do the recommended tests/trouble shooting, but when it comes to making calls this phone is USELESS.

I have another appointment on Sunday 2 December 2018 at the Genius bar and will just hope they do something about it or replace my phone (yet again)

I am facing the exact same issue with my iphone 8, which i bought 1 year and 1 month ago from the US. All of a sudden the speaker started mulfactioning (i.e. no sound when receiving calls, no alarm, unable to play videos, etc). Also, at times the screens blacks out and the device restarts on its own. I sent the phone to the local apple service office, and they called me back today just to tell me that the device can't be fixed and I need to pay 400euro for a replacement (half the money I paid last year to buy it). I concider this to be unacceptable really given that I have this phone for only 1 year and the damage wasn't caused from my side ( did not drop it, no contact with water, always in an original apple case and a screen protector).

I hope your problem is fixable!
