Why do I have a border of a thin red line around my desktop on my iMac?

I appear to have a permanent border around my desktop made up of a thin red line. Any suggestions as to what it is and how to get rid of it will be gratefully received.

Strange...! That sounds like the red frame that you see while you adjust the Arrangement in dual displays.

Do you have a display adapter plugged in, run dual displays or have the Displays Preference Arrangement tab open...?

If not, see if an NVRAM reset will clear the problem.

If not, try starting up in Safe Mode.
