Error iCloud for Windows Setup with Outlook 2016 - with log

Hello all,

This is obviously a common error because this forum is littered with similar questions.

See the log in bold.

I have a brand new Dell laptop running Windows 64 bit and Office 365 32-bit.

When I try to setup iCloud for Windows, I get this error....

"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client."

Upon further log inspection, I find this...

Detection of product '{9AC08E99-230B-47E8-9721-4577B7F124EA}', feature 'OutlookMAPI2Intl_1033', component '{AABA5658-9A10-4C59-B18B-8F5804C962C9}' failed. The resource 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\VFS\ProgramFilesCommonX64\SYSTEM\MSMAPI\1033\MSMAPI32.DLL' does not exist.

MSMAPI32.DLL does exist on my machine but in a different folder..

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\vfs\ProgramFilesCommonX86\System\MSMAPI\1033

Why is iCloud looking in the wrong folder? or Why is the file in the wrong folder?

I have tried installing everything and starting from scratch with the same results.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

G.

MY SOLUTION

Ok, so I finally fixed this beast of a problem. It will not be repeatable for some of you.

1) Reset Windows - I nuked it. This may not be required, but I was making sure I gave this the best chance of working.

2) Installed old Office version. In my case Office 2010.

3) Updated everything.

4) Installed and configured most recent version of iCloud for Windows.

5) Installed Office 365.

6) Viola! Fixed.

I'm keeping Office 2010 installed just in case removing it will break iCloud.

Good luck with finding your solutions.

Hello ehsizzup,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that you are receiving an error when installing iCloud for Windows on your Windows PC that reads, "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client."

Microsoft's website states:

"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request" error message when you send e-mail from third-party program in Outlook

This issue may occur if the Outlook registry key is corrupted. When other programs try to use the Outlook Simple MAPI interface, they cannot retrieve the required information from the registry.

The link above provides steps to help resolve this error. Let us know how it goes.
Best Regards.
