Repair iCloud for Windows to use iCloud with Outlook

I have a new Dell XPS 13 - 9370 with Windows 10 Home 64 bit. I've installed and re-installed iCloud for Windows and MS Office many times in the last 24-hours in order to get iCloud to work. At first, iCloud had the error message: ICloud can't continue setup because Outlook is not set up with default account. After completely uninstalling Office, both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions, I re-installed iCloud only to get this persistent error message: Repair iCloud for Windows to use iCloud with Outlook.

I've uninstalled iCloud and Apple 32-bit and 64-bit support applications, then re-installed it (without any Office applications), and still get the same error message when starting iCloud. The truly frustrating thing is that I also have a slightly older Dell XPS 13 9360 running Windows Home 10 64-bit where everything runs perfectly (except the laptop will randomly crash into a blank screen before restarting itself).

Any hints? I've GTS the heck out of this problem and can't find any recent (March 2018) suggestions or answers...

This worked for me, finally!

icloud for windows not recognizing profile for outlook 2016 - Microsoft Community

I have just fixed this problem for a customer of mine who had a new Dell PC with Windows 10 and was trying to use Office 365 with iCloud. He was getting the "no default profile" message. After a few dead-ends I found the following worked for his machine.

The problem was due to the pre-installed version of Office on the system. Once I removed this and reinstalled Office 365, the problem cleared.

One thing I didn't get a chance to try was to simply check that the correct Outlook was selected as the default mail program in Windows. I don't know if it will clear the problem, but it may be worth checking first. This is because of the nature of the problem and the way iCloud looks for Outlook.

The procedure I followed may contain unnecessary steps, but I include them in case they are required.

1. Open a Powershell window with Administrator privileges (Thanks to Nick001Aye for his instructions on how to do this which I've pasted below)

To open an elevated PowerShell prompt, in the taskbar search, type powershell. Now see the result Windows PowerShell which appears on the top. Right-click on it and select Run as Administrator. The UAC prompt will ask you for your consent.

From the Powershell window run the following to remove the Outlook component:

Get-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online | where-object {$_.packagename –like "*Outlook*"} | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online

2. Next run this in the same Powershell window - not sure if it's necessary or not:

Get-AppxPackage "*Outlook*" | Remove-AppxPackage

3. Finally, in a non-admin Powershell window, run the command from 2 again.

Get-AppxPackage "*Outlook*" | Remove-AppxPackage

This should remove the installer for all new accounts and the folder that iCloud is using.

I would suggest restarting the PC now and then either reinstalling or running a repair on your regular installed version of Office. Hopefully this will clear the problem.

I have the same issue on a Surface Pro 4. I've been trying for 2 days now to get iCloud to work with Outlook. The error message I get is "Setup can't continue because Outlook isn't configure to have a default profile. Check your Outlook settings and try again".

I've done a Windows 10 factory reset, deleted the standard Outlook and other Office Apps that come with Windows 10 and I've installed Outlook using my Office 365 account (and set it up with a profile).

I've followed the advice of other users that came across this known issue, but I still haven't been able to resolve this. Come on Microsoft and Apple, you're the ones with the technical expertise, users shouldn't have to deal with these sorts of issues today.
