USB speakers not working on iMac

I see this is a common problem, but none of the solutions I've tried have worked.

I'm trying to connect a pair of Klipsch powered monitors (r-15pm) to my Late 2015 iMac with a usb 2.0 cable. The speakers aren't showing up in the output options. I have a 2.1 setup hooked up to the headphone jack, and those are working fine.

I've unplugged the usb cable dozens of times, trying all four ports. I've reset the nvram. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Any suggestions?

That worked! I can switch between both sets of speakers perfectly.

I had reset the SMC yesterday, but I guess that was before the computer recognized the speakers with the new cable.

Disconnect any peripherals including speakers and try the SMC again.

I'm running out of ideas. Did they ever work on your iMac?

No, what I meant was have they ever worked correctly or are they new? If new, you may have to contact Klipsh and see if they are even compatible. Which version of macOS are you running?

There might be. They may have firmware that is not quite compatible with High Sierra. Some USB audio devices work fine, some not so much. I would check with Klipsch.
