email won't fetch 11.2.6 8+

Since my update to 11.2.6 2 days ago, I no longer get email notifications on the home screen when screen is sleeping or not. The email icon count does not change although I know there are new emails. I can only get new mail when I go to the app. Texts are OK.

I have checked, changed and changed again all the settings in notifications and in the push, fetch, how often to fetch settings. Reboot phone, reset network settings to no help. I may try restore but only if there is no other theory out there.

I see that it says now that Automatic fetch only works when on wifi and plugged in. Is this something new? I admit, I never looked or changed any of this stuff on my phone, or any previous phone, until today. My phone is not normally plugged in. I do know that emails were instant though, and not on a schedule, so I don't understand that part.

Verizon and AOL. (don't snicker, had this since email came about.)

A setting of Fetch on Automatic will only fetch mail when the device is connected to wi-fi and power. If you wish to get mail delivered at other times, then you need to set a different Fetch schedule time, such as 15 minutes or more. I'm not sure if this is a change, since I've never used Automatic in the past, but that is the behavior that I have seen in my tests. Others that I have talked to have changed their Fetch schedule and it works. I've always had my personal email set to Fetch every 15 minutes, and it works just fine with my iPhone X on iOS 11.3.

To make changes to the Fetch settings, go to Settings>Accounts & Passwords, then tap on Fetch New Data. There you can scroll down under Fetch and set the timing. This Automatic that has appeared only seems to work with wi-fi and power. For you to get a regular fetch schedule, click on 15, 30, or hourly. That will have the mail app check for mail at the scheduled time. As far as sounds are concerned, that is dependent on Notifications, unless you are referring to when connected to the car. That statement by Apple support is not correct. You can get notifications of mail whether on wi-fi or cellular.

I cannot address your comments about this being exclusive to AOL, since I'm not an AOL user. But I am not aware of AOL mail no longer working with the Apple mail app on the phone. Have you tried removing the account from the phone and adding it back again to ensure that it is verifying the account correctly? Are you seeing any error messages when it comes to opening mail? If you are not connected to wi-fi, do you have cellular data turned on?

First off, you cannot overcharge or damage the battery.

Next, if you have it set to Automatic, for it to Fetch, it has to be plugged into power.

If you do not wish to connect it to power, then set the Fetch schedule to a time limit you wish to have your mail checked, and you will not have to wait to open the Mail app to check mail. Fetch can be set to 15 minutes, 30 minutes, hourly.

I am a volunteer here, you rarely get an Apple rep, except to respond to non-answered questions over 24 hours. If you have an account set to Automatic, it will only fetch when connected to power. I cannot address how it worked in the past, as I have never used Automatic. I use Fetch on a 15 minute schedule, and my mail is fetched every 15 minutes. If I am connected to power, it will fetch almost immediately. You can set your phone to what you wish, however you need to understand what the manufacturer has set the options to do. While it may have changed, again I cannot address that, but you have the option to contact Apple Support and ask them.

If you wish to have Apple hear your complaint, then you need to use the feedback link here, https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html, as they do not participate here. If you are using an OEM lightning cable, or one MFi, then your charging circuit will work correctly and will not damage your device. If you decide to use second rate 3rd party cables, then there is a chance that will damage your device and battery both, but that is outlined in your warranty.

Then you need to check all of your mail settings. Not only for the account, but Notifications as well.

Setting for Fetch are found by going to Settings>Accounts & Passcodes. You will see Fetch New Data. What do you see there? Then tap on that to bring up your list of mail accounts. Tap the account in question, and see what the settings is on the account. Then look at the bottom of the page for the time setting.

I'm using iOS 12.2.6 as well as other members of my family and have not experienced a problem. While I have only seen one other user has a question about Automatically setting, and after setting to a time interval, it worked just fine. You may need to restart your phone after changing that Fetch schedule.

It is not necessary to always keep your phone plugged in to fetch mail, nor do you have to constantly open mail and refresh. You just cannot use the Automatic setting. You have to set a time period for the fetch.

If you are experiencing text notifications, that is a separate problem than mail. Has nothing to do with the ability to fetch mail.

And as far as insane, you are not speaking with Apple. This is a user to user technical support forum, and Apple does not participate here. You can share your insanity theory when you go to your Apple Store, or you can use the feedback link here, https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html , which is how they get user feedback.

Okay, so you say that you set it to 15 minutes and you did not receive a notification about mail after 30 minutes. When you opened mail after that 30 minutes, had the mail been downloaded and a badge visible on the mail app, or did it download when you opened mail?

Then you state that you had been using the phone, laid it down and the screen was still unlocked and you received a mail and saw the notification on the screen. Is that correct?

Can you provide a screenshot of your notification screen for Mail? Make sure that you cover any personal information.

Hey Eric, I had the same issue with my 7+ two weeks ago. Had to do a reset, according to Apple. Ten minutes after the reset was done out comes the 11.2.6 update to fix that problem. Now it’s running slower by the day since Friday and they’re telling me that I have to do it all over again!!!! Apple products are beginning to suck just like all the rest. You might want to see if an update mysteriously comes out again soon.

Well, after a restore, I got my phone to fetch on the schedule. It will update every 15 minutes. It's not earth shattering, but I liked it to pull and notify of mail when it came in. I know for a fact it was instant as I got confirmation emails instantly. There was no need to change this feature.

It still will not fetch instantly on auto setting even if plugged in and on wifi, so they f'd something.

After listening to me whine about this, my wife went ahead and updated....now her phone only fetches when you open the email app...sigh...

Oh, another fun feature.... the weather (Apple installed from the factory) widget you get swiping to the right from the home screen. It no longer updates unless I power the phone off and on..

I have the same problem on my 8+. I had NO difficulty getting my email until I updated to i0S 11.2.6. Prior to the update, I would get mail throughout the day, it didn't matter if the screen was dark or not, and my phone did not need to be connected to wi-fi. Now I have to open the email app and pull down to refresh before any new mail appears on the screen. I have changed no settings on my phone so it has to be i0S 11.2.6 that is causing this problem. My phone was working perfectly until this update.

So after 3 weeks of talking to Apple I just got the call that this is a new "feature" with 11.2.6 ..and will only work being plugged in...really ...***....who keeps their phone plugged in all the time..and who has the time to constantly open up email and refresh....really Apple.....you are screwing up my life.....The friggin upgrade...these **** upgrades ruin my phone alllllll the time. I'm sooooo ******. I have 2 AOL accounts (one for me, one for work that can't be changed) and now I never know when my BOSS is sending an email.....and I also am not getting text notifications.

I don't understand why Apple does this sh--t......I work as a personal assistant and depend on getting these notifications. I'm going to the Apple store tonight and if they don't fix it...I'm getting rid of this phone and going to Android. THIS IS INSANE APPLE......WHY ????? WHY DO YOU MESS WITH STUFF WHEN IT'S WORKING JUST FINE!!!!!

I did have it on the 15 minute setting and sent myself 4 emails from another account on a pc. none came through after 30 minutes so I set it back to auto.

At one point, I had just set the phone down and did get a banner notification when a mail came through, the screen was still active. It looks like it does not show if the screen goes dark.

I just found another thread where the same basic problem started after 11.2.6 install. I tried to copy my question to that post, but now can't find the thread..
