email won't fetch 11.2.6 8+

Since my update to 11.2.6 2 days ago, I no longer get email notifications on the home screen when screen is sleeping or not. The email icon count does not change although I know there are new emails. I can only get new mail when I go to the app. Texts are OK.

I have checked, changed and changed again all the settings in notifications and in the push, fetch, how often to fetch settings. Reboot phone, reset network settings to no help. I may try restore but only if there is no other theory out there.

I see that it says now that Automatic fetch only works when on wifi and plugged in. Is this something new? I admit, I never looked or changed any of this stuff on my phone, or any previous phone, until today. My phone is not normally plugged in. I do know that emails were instant though, and not on a schedule, so I don't understand that part.

Verizon and AOL. (don't snicker, had this since email came about.)

A setting of Fetch on Automatic will only fetch mail when the device is connected to wi-fi and power. If you wish to get mail delivered at other times, then you need to set a different Fetch schedule time, such as 15 minutes or more. I'm not sure if this is a change, since I've never used Automatic in the past, but that is the behavior that I have seen in my tests. Others that I have talked to have changed their Fetch schedule and it works. I've always had my personal email set to Fetch every 15 minutes, and it works just fine with my iPhone X on iOS 11.3.

the emails downloaded when I opened the mail ap. The count on the homescreen icon did not show any new emails prior.

yes on the mail that came through when the screen was not locked. that came at the top as a banner and preview.

maybe I am using the wrong term when I say notification.. do I want to say 'alert'? I used to get a ding sound and preview of any incoming mail when the screen was dark. In the morning, when I wake the screen, any emails would be there in the notifications. now nothing until I open the app.

While I am at work, there are things I do (on a PC) that get a confirmation email sent to my work email (on the PC) and personal email, that is on my phone. That's how I know the emails were instant on the phone and not set up on a fetch schedule. I noticed the phone was not responding until I opened the ap.

I'll try that tonight after I compare to my wife's phone.

I did find the other thread and piggybacked on it. I tried the suggested answer he got, did not fix.

I also may just go ahead and reset the phone, then if that does not work, I'll restore it from a backup.

I usually never get a problem from an update that wasn't fixed in the next update, but those were minor and trivial. It seems they can't ever have one without hiccups though.

I'm having the same problem too with 11.2.6 but on iphone 7+.

I've deleted email acc. etc. changed settings, restart etc. to no avail! Basically, the Fetch setting is the same as Manual at the moment regardless whether i have wifi or not! 15 minute Fetch makes no difference neither!! Still doesn't Fetch even if i left it for over 40mins with wifi!!!!! My text doesn't come through straight away, but i'd always thought that's to do with my phone network supplier? Whatsapp has no such issue? Come on Apple, QA is deteriorating with every update! If it's not one issue, it's another.

Right..that's what Apple support is saying..that this has to do with the update. I fail to understand why they would do this. It's a feature that has been there for years and no one complained...and now..they change it. I'm sorry I'm so frustrated at this issue since it's causing major problems in my life. Now my brand new car won't even recognize the phone unless it's plugged in and Honda says it due to the update. I hate these updates.

Is there a way to get it back to the old setting?? I've reset the phone to no avail.

Thanks,

I never said you did. I was not responding to you. You may need to check your setting. I've never used Automatic, and I've never found any explanation of it anywhere in any guide. I've always used Fetch for accounts that do not support push. I believe this Automatic setting is something new, but from what I can tell reading some rumor sites, is that it requires your phone be connected to wi-fi and plugged in. Fetch has always worked, and still works the way it is designed, and that is to fetch mail every xx minutes, depending on the setting. Users adjust the settings depending on how often they wish to have mail checked, and what affect that has on their battery.

You may need to provide more information about your issue. If you have your account set to Fetch and have set a specific time period, and are connected to data, it should work. Without taking time to read though this entire thread, have you detailed your issue here? If so, I'll search, otherwise, you need to provide that, and we can see if we can help. I've not had any issues with fetching mail at a specific interval, in any of the iOS 11 series iOS.

I'm on my home wifi, have it set to fetch automatically! I use to hear the little ding sound every time I got an email, now only when I open the mail app does my phone fetch and make that ding! It never fetches mail until I open my APP. No matter if I'm on wifi, or using data, which I have far more than enough. Someone suggested plugging it in, which is ridiculous since you can over charge. However I didn't find that to work well either. Thanks for your help!

And that is not how it use to be. Automatically was automatically! Not when you open your app. Are you just a commenter or APPLE rep? Since I've owned a phone it has not worked the way they have it now. We should be able to set our phones to what we like not what the manufacturer doesn't need to make our decisions for us! And why do they sell cords to stop charging your battery once it gets to 100% if nothing happens to your battery by keeping it in a charger all day long? Fact remains, the email app changed and we don't like it!
