I imported movies from my Sony HC3 DV tape recorder into FCP I exported finished movie to Apple devices 720P (iTunes) the 1:45 minute movie is 685 mb and it looks horrible if I export as a Master File to desktop its 30 Gig looks great (for DV) is there a happy medium? I have 200 tapes to export and that would take up a huge amount of room

How long is the video? That seems very large for H.264.
1:45 ...It just seems strange that the Master is 1:45 and the Apple devices 685MB there must be something in between
One hour 45 minutes of 720x480 H.264 master file is 2.7 GB. Don't know what you're doing to get 30 GB.
And if you make it in 640x480 it's less than 2 GB.
That will produce a very large file. Change the codec to H.264.

You shouldn’t, though I still don’t understand why your originals look so poor.
