Beyond that, as etresoft noted, the drive may be dying, which will also cause poor performance.

I just need guidance to get back to a better showing.

Mar 6, 2018 6:06 AM in response to makey

Some Googling seems to imply that WebProcess is related to Safari and WebKit (the foundation for Safari).

I would look at the browser tabs you have open, and the web sites you are visiting.

And look at the memory and CPU Safari is using via Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor, and if it is getting high, quit Safari and re-start it. Maybe even re-start Safari with the "Shift" key held down to clear the Safari caches.

Or upgrade you macOS version so you get a newer Safari version. That would involved upgrading to at least El Capitan 10.11, Safari 10.12 or High Sierra 10.13

Mar 7, 2018 6:03 AM in response to makey

This pass of EtreCheck is not showing any wild CPU/RAM usage apps. But you still have poor performance.

I'm starting to wonder if your hard disk is starting to have performance issues. This is a wild guess, as I cannot see anything from a software perspective (assuming the residual Trusteer preference pane is not actually doing anything).

Rerun EtreCheck and collect the SMART report

Apart from deleting all my History, I've also done a PRAM re-set so where do I click in the Etracheck Reports to locate and deal with the continuing high CPU and PRAM percentages? I've just done another Etrecheck test and it STILL shows "Poor".

The only red coloured one is the "Back Up Disk is Too Small" (which has always been there) but where in the other "Look Up" items do I go to sort this out?

Mar 9, 2018 2:09 PM in response to makey

Besides EtreCheck saying it has poor performance, does it really feel slow?

In a perfect world, EtreCheck would be perfect. It is always possible that what it is using to figure out good vs poor performance is off.

Also you could try downloading the most recent version of EtreCheck. You are using an older version.

As I guessed, the HD should be OK.

Not necessarily. Any type of diagnostic like only has a definitive value if it reports a failure. Once you have a failure, you can't unfail. However, just because a diagnostic didn't report a failure doesn't mean you haven't had one.

All indications are that your hard drive is failing. Unfortunately, the only guaranteed diagnostic for that is to replace the hard drive and see if that fixes the problem.

One last trick you can try is creating a new user account on your machine. Log out of your current account and log into the new account. Run EtreCheck there. Does it report similarly dismal results? If so, then it is almost certainly the hard drive.

It is not easy to replace the hard drive in an iMac. You can try booting from an external hard drive. With USB3, an external hard drive should give you better performance than what you have now.

If an external drive performs well, there is one last thing you can try. You can erase your internal hard drive and reinstall the operating system. Don't restore from backup. Only reinstall the software that you absolutely require. You can use Migration Assistant to restore user files and documents, but that's all.

Mar 17, 2018 10:46 AM in response to etresoft

I tried another Etrecheck report having started up from my external F/F drive which is High Sierra and it came up as "Good" instead of "Poor". I think the only reason it's not showing "Excellent" is because of the "Back up Drive is too small" situation.

I hope this means that, at least, the internal HD is O.K.

Etrecheck - BIG problems.
