Apple TV Failed Activation

I have an AppleTV 3rd generation ... ever since I restored it I cannot use AIRPLAY from either my iPad or iPhone. It previously worked fine but I decided to restore it because when airplaying it was playing up!

Now when I try to airplay from my iOS device it says looking for AppleTV. It cannot find my AppleTV.

When going to AppleTV SETTINGS / ABOUT / its say Activation FAILED.

I have tried everything from restoring via iTunes, unplugging it, resetting ... you name it I have tried it but cannot pass the Activation Failed. Hence I cannot airplay. Everything else works fine on the AppleTV - i.e. apps etc

Does anybody know how I can correct this and why this is happening?

Any help is much appreciated.

Same problem here with any restored 3rd gen Apple Tv's. I opened a case with support and they said they are aware of the problem and do not have a fix at this time. I also have my Apple SE monitoring this case for me.

i played some movie with home sharing, because the airplay is not working. After i finished the movie, i sit down before the mac, and i noticed the airplay icon on the itunes. I checked my iphone and i see my apple tv and the activation failed text is gone.

I can't believe it. Been trying to figure it out since I got it yesterday. Found this thread and finally got to today where you were all saying it's fixed. I went to air play and like magic it was working. Thank you!

I saw the posts that AirPlay was working. Still couldn’t find it on my devices. Tried another reset. And there it was!

Try one more reset and be patient. It showed up on my iPhone before it did on my iPad. .

Hey y’all the problem is fixed on my Apple TV. I can now airplay f I’m my iPhone iPad and my iMac to my Apple TV again. YAHOOOOOOOO. I was totally about to drop everything Apple if this was the new normal. Let us pray they keep making quality products that last without killing them off through updates. My iPhone still has some issues (massive battery drain, I’m on the fence if I will ever buy another iPhone. This is there problem and not ours. And making us buy a battery at a reduced price because they built and charged us for a premium device and built it with inferior parts really is a problem for me.) OH FYI there are some issues with play back while AirPlaying. It sometimes crashes and the stream will either stop or pause. I watched several shows last night and this issue happened all night long. My iPhone was literally 1.5 feet from the Apple TV.
