Question: iTunes not working

Got my mac in 2016, and suddenly iTunes just stopped working. The application won't open when I click on it, and yet, it says the application is open. I've tried clicking force quit but it will not respond, and when I try moving it to trash, it won't go to trash because the application is "open." I've downloaded the newest version of iTunes but it still won't work. Not really sure what to do. My video player is also frozen on one of my desktops and will not close. Not sure what to do.
