iPod Touch help - stop Auto-Play on playlist

Is there a way to stop the Auto-Play of songs on a playlist on an iPod touch?

I can do this on iTunes by deselecting all of the songs on the playlist. Once the songs are all unchecked, when one song is finished it stops playing.

However when I sync this playlist to the iPod, the checkboxes are all still selected, and when a song is played on the iPod, when it is finished, it continues automatically to the next song on the playlist.

You don't need to do that.

in iTunes, when a Playlist (or any list that is playing) is in progress, look to the right of the Now Playing pane;

User uploaded file

  1. tap on the menu icon
  2. make sure Up Next is selected
  3. click on Clear at the bottom of the Up Next list. The player will stop at the end of the current song.

Saves all that un-ticking stuff.

If the Up Next list is longer than the window, there will be a scroll bar on the right hand side of the list. Simply use that to scroll down to the end of the list.

There is no feature to auto-stop at the end of the current song. However, there is a timer, exceptionally well hidden, in the Clock app.

  • open the Clock app on the iPod (you can keep the music playing while you do this)
  • tap on the Timer which is on the right hand end of the ribbon at the bottom of the screen
  • set the time you want the music to play for, using the scroll wheel numbers
  • tap on When Timer Ends, which is below the timing wheels
  • scroll to the bottom of the When Timer Ends menu and tap on Stop Playing
  • tap on the Set button, which is in the top right hand side of the menu. This will return you to the previous menu
  • tap on the Start button to start the timer

...and that's it.

Well, I say that, but it is over complex, don't you think?

Not only that; when the music player does stop, it could well be in the middle of a song, but that's as good as you're going to get, I think.
