Siri doesn't understand artist name.
Apple Music contains albums by the Lao artist, Aluna. I have tried to ask Siri to play that artist in every way I can think of and Siri always plays some random unrelated artist.

I've discovered the same thing with at least one other artist -- Ahmad Jamal, jazz pianist. She just doesn't have a full data base of all the names of all the artists, which isn't all that surprising. So the idea of creating a playlist that DOES have a more easily recognized name is the best current solution.
