Devastating Apple Mail Problem

Hello fellow Mac Users,

I have discovered a devastating email Apple Mail problem. For weeks (months?) I have been sending emails from my Apple Mail that have not been received! I hear the "swoosh" but they are not received. I have tested it repeatedly with family and friends, so it really is "broken". If I use Outlook it works fine, as does my iPhone. This is a problem with Apple Mail on my Mac. Any ideas? Can anyone help? Thanks!

I have a Yahoo Mail account I use very casually. It is not my main account.

I have been having ongoing computer problems, so I have re-entered all my Mail account information, including Yahoo, more times than I would care to reveal.

On current Macs, if you delete the Yahoo account, when you re-enter it, Yahoo is a special case. It appear that although you enter your Password, Yahoo converts it immediately into a token-and-certificate validation.

One theory is that you are still relying on older validation methods that Yahoo has deprecated, and it is actually refusing your sent emails. So not a Mail problem, not a Yahoo problem, but a cooperation problem.

I recommend you make careful note of your Yahoo mail password, and delete and re-enter your Yahoo Account. Depending on what version of MacOS you are running, that may invoke Accounts preferences (from Mail preferences) to do the login re-entry.

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for the thought. I do not have that option. My drop down just shows an email icon. Also my email was working fine for years. This is something new. Maybe weeks or months old. I can send emails from my iPhone and from my Mac if I use Outlook. But when I use Apple Mail I hear the "swoosh" and it shows up as sent -- but they are never received. They are all going somewhere...or blocked up, jammed up....somewhere. I guess I will have to just stop using Apple Mail and useably Outlook if I cannot solve this. But hundreds of emails I sent have never been received. It explains why friends and business associates have ignored me! Not sure how to fix this 😟 Again, thanks for trying!

Readers have previously reported that they do NOT get the whoosh sound, and their supposedly sent emails are languishing in their "Outbox" folder, waiting to be sent. That one, we know how to go about fixing.

But if you get the whoosh, and they disappear, they HAVE been sent as far as Mac Mail thinks.

What are you using for an email provider?

Hi Grant,

Thank you too. I definitely get the "whoosh" and they appear in my Sent folder. But they are never received. I use Yahoo as my email provider. But I do not think it is a Yahoo issue as my Outlook works fine with Yahoo as does my iPhone. So this appears to be something with either the software on my Mac or perhaps the emails are "held up" somewhere in the Mac? I may have to just stop using Apple Mail and rely on Outlook. Appreciate your help but I am really lost!
