I am unable to remove the folders, documents, and minimized windows are kept from the right side of the Dock. The only way I can do this is by clicking on them individually then closing them which is very tedious. I've read that I should be able to right click on them to remove but this just displays the name of the item. Neither can I drag them out of the dock.

Not absolutely sure but I don't think you can remove them from the right side of the bar in the Dock. At least I see no options offered. Help!
No this doesn't work with the right-side items. Right clicking only shows name of the item, no options available.

I just ctrl clicked on my trash box in the dock and didn't get an option though I did on all the left hand items.
You live and learn.
It's a pain as I end up with dozens of items which I have to open and close individually. Also all the left side apps icons reduce in size to fit all the open items.

I don't have a Downloads folder to the right of the dock đ. I only have my open items and the trash. I access my downloads from Finder, Go.
I suspect you aren't using the High Sierra operating system!

It will stay there unless you want to remove it. Click it and the Finder opens it for you.
Sadly it doesn't work on my Mac. Dragging and holding the icon in the middle of the screen shows no remove notification. Letting go just returns it back to the dock.
