My wife’s phone had this problem, but I found a solution on another thread. I can’t take credit for it, Jdunlop77 was the one who originally posted it. Here’s his solution:

“Hi everyone,

I was able to solve the issue on my phone in three steps.

1. Turn off app unloading (Settings —>

iTunes & AppStore—>Offload Unused Apps—> turn this off)

2. Change region/language to US

(Settings->general—>language &region—>change both to United States)

3. Phone will take a minute to change this setting and then the News app should be visible with all your other apps. Click it to download it and then make sure the widget is there. You will see US headlines (CNN, Fox, etc).

4. Change region/language settings back to whatever you want

This worked for me. I hope it helps!“

The only extra thing I had to do was after changing the region and language, I had to swipe left to where the widgets are and search “news” in the search bar. That found the news app immediately and I was able to click on it and it started downloading.

Hope this helps!

Oh, and we’re in Canada too

Ok, so I had the same issue. The option to automatically uninstall unused apps. Or put them to the cloud. Got rid of my app, or widget on my iPhone and I used it all the time.

I do have a solution, so slide it over to the left. And you will see a search option. Search for “news” you will see in top hit. A red icon called news, click it and it will say it’s not installed and will download in the background, And bam! It will be back on your screen.

Hope this helps everyone

Works like charm! Also in Belgium I encountered the same issue a couple of months ago.

Had nothing to do with the IOS version nor type of iPhone, since both my wife and I have an iPhone 6s running the same IOS. The only difference between our phones was that mine was set up to automatically delete unused apps and my wife’s wasn’t.

So my wife was still able to use the news app while mine was gone...

After doing the trick as mentioned above, I’ve managed to install the news app again.

Many many thanks...

So painful Apple couldn’t came with this solution nor an acceptable reason...

I have the same problem here in Canada. It disappeared from my iPhone 6S (IOS 11.3.1)a couple months ago. I just got a new iPhone 8, and the Apple News widget is there (no associated app BTW) and functioning as before with random top news stories from different sources. I hadn't yet set up my new phone, so this is the default. When I setup my new iPhone by "restoring" my old phone to it, the Apple News widget disappeared once again.😟

Hey Apple customer service:

What kind of nonsense is this customer service? We demand some corrective action to this serious issue. I’m from Malaysia, before updating my iOS the news widget just worked perfectly fine. And after an update and it’s gone? With no solution being provided. And it’s been 2 weeks since the customers highlighted it. And you guys just assumed we will cope with this crap? Do drop some response, don’t be redicuouos having a QnA forum with no intention to solve ur client’s issue.

Thanks. And I’m truly disappointed with Apple after sales service. Such bad impression. And we all from now should stop updating our IOS then. We’re not some lab rats for Apple to test out some beta **** and left us cliff hanging until now?
