I am unable to get Epson 1430 to print from my G3 iMac running 10.4.11, even though this OS is supposed to be supported.

I am unable to get my Epson 1430 to print from my G3 iMac running 10.4.11, even though this OS is supposed to be supported. The driver seems to install and printer shows up, but when I try to print, it scrolls and then printer pauses immediately. I have it connected via USB. Any ideas or workarounds? I really want to print from this computer because of old painting program on it. The printer works fine with my Macbook air, even wirelessly.

This page has 2 downloads for OS X 10.4.x > https://epson.com/Support/Printers/Single-Function-Inkjet-Printers/Artisan-Serie s/Epson-Artisan-1430/s/SPT_C11CB53201?re…

  1. a "combo" package with one driver version
  2. a "driver only" download with another driver version

I would make sure that you have one of these actually installed, or simply download & install again

Christopher at Epson assures me that the operating system is the important thing, and not the Mac model on which it is running.

I tried again to uninstall the drivers, trash the preferences, and reinstall from the cd that came with the printer. (Epson help was having me download drivers from their website, but this is an old computer; so should work with an older driver.) I get the same thing, spools but then stops the jobs. I was able to get it to print a nozzle check.

Hi again and thanks for trying to help. I cannot print from Preview (image or text .pdf), Painter 8, Photosop CS2, TextEdit, or AppleWorks. I went into the install cd that came with the printer, bypassed the installer, opened, and found two printer packages. One gave me a "for 10.5 only" message when I tried to open it. The other was in a folder marked 10.4; so I decided to use that one. I did an uninstall, then Library/printers/, dragged the Epson folder to trash, emptied trash, restarted, installed the 10.4 printer from its package on the cd. Restarted again for good measure. I then used Printer Setup Utility to reset the printing. When I added the 1430, it found the new driver with no problem. When I tried to print: same thing- spools but then stops jobs. Document remains in the queue. If I've missed anything, please suggest it. I'm starting to wonder if Klaus 1 is right and Christopher G. at Epson is wrong about Intel vs. Power PC.

Did I mention I can get it to print a nozzle check from the printer utility? I'm not sure if that's significant, if it even goes through the driver. I also read that it might be a memory problem, but don't know how to get into memory To change the cache, or if you even need to do that in Tiger. The iMac is maxed out on RAM, original chip plus I think a 512MB chip.

Hello. Thank you for your reply. I had thought of this, but nowhere in the requirements does it specify Intel Mac, only the OS 10.4.11. I spent several hours on the phone with Epson after the purchase, but they were unable to help, and suggested I contact Apple. Truthfully, they go through having you download and install, as if you were unable to do it yourself. I will contact them again and ask this question.

Does anyone have an idea for a driver that will work for me?

Welcome.

As I said, I would be lying if I gave any advice at this point - I have found just "doing something" may cause more trouble than it's worth

I don't see how Tiger reinstall would make any difference -

What "app" are you printing FROM?

What kind of content? Image? Text?

Can you print "The quick brown fox..." from TextEdit?

Can you print an image - say a screenshot (Command + 3) from Preview app?
