Crossfader not working in iTunes 12.7.4.76

Using iTunes after the most recent update to version 12.7.4.76 the crossfader built into iTunes is not working.

- iTunes being used on MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-Inch, Late 2013)

- Processor: 2.3 Ghz intel core i7

- Memory: 16 GB

- macOS ver. 10.13.4

After updating to the new iTunes version the crossfader is no longer working in iTunes. The crossfader is used to transition from one song to another. This is especially a helpful playback tool for workouts as well as many other life objectives.

Contacted Apple Support and was instructed to restart computer. Did that still not working. Was directed to turn off crossfader, exit iTunes. Restart computer and then go in and turn on crossfader and test. Still didn't work. Next steps included going to iTunes.com and installing a fresh copy of iTunes to the computer overwriting the app already on the machine. Still no crossfader options. No matter what we do to the crossfader. Turn off, turn back on, select a different seconds to crossfade, it no longer works. It was working prior to the update. Apple Support Senior Advisor explained that the feature may have been removed however the feature is still in iTunes under Preferences, Playback. Have a look. It's there and it should work. Any help is appreciated on getting this fixed. Support has been fantastic, no doubt about that. Would love to see this resolved easily.

Step by step guide to rolling back to 12.7.3 on a Mac.

  1. Close iTunes
  2. Install iTunes 12.6.4, but don't run it
  3. Open Home > Music > iTunes > Previous iTunes Libraries in Finder, or the relevant folder if library is stored elsewhere.
  4. Locate the file with the date when you updated to 12.7.4, copy it
  5. Go up one level to the iTunes folder and paste
  6. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library NEW.itl
  7. Rename the dated file as iTunes Library.itl
  8. Install iTunes 12.7.3
  9. Open iTunes

Your library should be restored to the exact state it was in when you closed it prior to installing 12.7.4.

To add to my last post...now I am not so sure crossfading was fixed after all. It's weird, you can SEE it fade if you watch the time bar (the next song starts before the last completes, per how many seconds overlap you choose). But you can't HEAR it. I can swear the first song actually fades out, volume-wise, which it shouldn't, but since it does, it negates the cool "merging" affect from one track to the next. They just need to ovelap, at whatever volume the ARE!! The natural fades built into the tracks work just FINE, thank you. No need to reduce the volume in iTunes, TOO!! So, someone attempted to fix it, but didn't quite do it right, in my opinion. Therefore, it appears to work, but sounds just like one song ends before the next starts. ~Sigh~

I have tried everything that people have posted to fix the crossfade problem. This is the ONLY one that worked for me. I have an iMac so not sure if this works for PC's or not. Basically, it's just downloading another version of iTunes right over your existing version. Very easy to do and all music was still in place.

Go to itunes.apple.com

In the black apple bar at the top right of the page click support

In the "search support" box in the middle of the page, type dl1814 (dl as in download)

Let it down load and follow the prompts.

Download version 12.7.4.80 for Mac.... it's finally been resolved!!

However, it appears Apple has not updated (yet) the version number on the website download page.
The website stated the download was 12.7.4.76 when I downloaded it last night, in order to reinstall iTunes.
When I ran iTunes the Crossfade feature seemed to be barely working (which I think it depends on the recordings your attempting to mix.) It worked on one particular song mix really well,... then others it was barely noticeable

(Maybe it wasn't done caching the entire playlist, I don't know???) So I gave up.

Then the next day ALL THE SONGS were crossfading as designed.

But I didn't realize I was on a different version until I was talking with Apple Support about iTunes backup.

I confidently told them I was on 12.7.4.76....

I went to double check and it displayed 12.7.4.80!

Crossfade is back!... My playlist 'flow' is back and it makes all the difference in the world!!

Thank you Apple

Hi

I did from 1 to 4 but dont know how to do 5,, or dont get it,, go up one level? can you tell me exactly what you mean by go up one level?

Thanks

The files are in a nested folder hierarchy. The first folder on a drive is known as the root. Subfolders are children of their parent folders, with the root at the top. The iTunes folder contains the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. You need to copy the file from one folder to the other, so you select and copy in one folder, then browse to the other folder, and paste.

As noted iTunes 12.7.4.80 fixes the crossfade issue.

I still don't get a proper crossfade even with the latest version (set to six seconds). The next tune starts immediately as the other one finishes but a real crossfade it isn't. Also I think the reason Apple didn't publicise this update was because it was rushed out as an interim fix. Hopefully in the next full update they will have a better crossfade also.

I would upgrade to 12.7.4.80
I experienced the same immediate start between songs for about a day, with cross fade set at about six seconds.
The next day it began functioning as I expected and pulled back on the cross. I don't know if maybe it was a reboot or restart that flushed the preferences cache, but now version 12.7.4.80 (new download) is now crossfading as expected.

(Note: The download was labeled 12.7.4.76, but when I ran it, it displayed 12.7.4.80. At the time it appears they had not corrected their labeling of the download version.)

Hi,

So had the same issue, not sure how many others are still, but found this on Reddit today and it worked:

Apple gave me the patch info today and it works.

Go to itunes.apple.com

In the black apple bar at the top right of the page click support

In the "search support" box in the middle of the page, type dl1814 (dl as in download)

Let it down load and follow the prompts.

It fixed the problem on both of our macs
