"There are purchased items on the iphone that have not been transferred to your Itunes Library.

You should these items to your Itunes library before updating this iphone. Are you sure you want to continue"

Getting message above when trying to update iphone software using Itunes on laptop.

Laptop is authorised and have done File>Devices>Transfer purchases from iphone, several times.

Transfer only takes seconds like it actually is not happening.

Itunes is up to date.

Any ideas?

If you're running iOS 11 then presumably you also have iTunes 12.7.x, which is no longer interested in transferring apps. The items in question should be music or videos.

See Hide and unhide music, movies, TV shows, audiobooks, and books - Apple Support in case any of your purchases have been hidden and Redownload apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books from the iTunes Store, iBooks Store, and App Store - Apple Support to download them.

It would be nice if iTunes could be a little less cryptic. 😕
