High Sierra 10.13.4 mail problems

We are using two computers: MBpro 2015 and iMac 2011. Following update to 10.13.4, IMAP accounts are ok in Mail, but POP accounts are not working. All work fine on an iPhone, and also with an older MacBook running Snow Leopard. We set up a new email account with another email provider using Safari, but we can't get Mail to set it up as a POP account in 10.13.4, though we could on Snow Leopard.

In existing POP accounts an error 'unable to verify certificate' warning shows after trying to fetch mail on both 10.13.4 computers. If we click 'continue', nothing appears to happen, but we can then fetch mail by right-clicking on each mail account, although not by clicking 'get mail' or by setting to fetch mail automatically. When trying to troubleshoot this, the Mail app in 10.13.4 is either not saving changes to server settings (eg to SSL settings) in the older POP accounts, or is over-riding them (on both 10.13.4 computers). This and the inability to set up a new POP account with a different provider suggests to me the issue is not the Trust Certificate, but the settings.

We appreciate the benefits of the various IMAP accounts we have, but would like to have our POP accounts working as well. We've tried simple stuff like rebuilding mailboxes, resetting NVRAM, starting in safe mode, and restarting following each change of settings.

I've submitted a feedback form to Apple, and as I've said we can actually get new emails after some effort, so should we just wait for the next update, or is there anything else worth trying?

Ok i can tell you what i did.

I wiped my computer clean and reinstalled it with time machine to a couple days before my update.

Then when i opened my computer i had the same problems.

Managed to sign into icloud and set up key chain after some back and forth.

Still same problem

Not accepting my password for my email accounts.

Turned off my wifi and chose a different wireless network and presto!

So I'm not sure if i even needed to reinstall the older version (but i'm not taking any chances and upgrading again) or if just changing or resetting your wifi might do it.

Good luck all! I know how much time wasting this stuff can take.
