Music skipping on iPhone

The title says it all, really.

Since I've updated my iPhone to iOS 11.3, audio intermittently skips.

It does this with both the native music player and Spotify. Never had it before to this degree, but it's doing it quite frequently now (once every 15-ish minutes or so). Audio files haven't changed and the music appears to play normally in iTunes on my Mac. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Although there is a chance it is simply a bug only you are having, I have an idea to why this is happening.

1. Are you listening to music through headphones? If so, try another pair of headphones or play the audio through your iPhone’s speaker and see if the problem persists. I have had this problem before with a pair of headphones and it turned out it was the headphones having a faulty remote/mic control.

2. If number 1 didn’t help, make sure you are running the latest public release iOS version (iOS 11.4.1). You can check by heading to Settings > General > Software Update

3. If that didn’t help, I would suggest erasing your phone to factory settings and setting up again. Remember to make an iCloud or iTunes backup first. Details on how to do this can be found here:

Step 1: Backup - How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Step 2: Erase - How to erase your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

4. As a last resort if all 3 suggested steps didn’t help, the best thing to do would to get on the phone with Apple and schedule a Genius Bar appointment. There is a chance there could be a hardware fault with the device which they would need to repair, or replace your device.

Hope this helps.

It’s July 2018 and my phone has been doing this since I updated it to 11.3 and I am about at my wits end. I’m about two seconds away from going android. I thought I had too much stuff on my phone so I deleted many of my photos. Removed most of the music so that it just streams what’s in my cloud. Still skipping, double streaming, or chopping up. I’ve also noticed that my calls drag ever so often. I’ve complained to Verizon about it but they point back to my phone. I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one but ****** to see that Apple hasn’t issued a fix yet.

Good idea but for me the fix was short lived. It did work for a song or two but eventually my music was back to skipping. Maybe the bug is tied to memory in that it worked at all!

I have another symptom where phone calls will slow down into a deep voice like a vinyl record at 33rpm then speed back up into a normal sounding voice. This happens at least every other phone call, yes during the live call.

I have not tried a full restore yet because what a pain in the *** that will be. Even if you restore from a backup it doesn’t restore apps (have to re-auntheticate all my work apps) and think there are exceptions to saving all your photos:

I did a full restore as suggested both here and even when I explained the problem on apple support chat by apple themselves. The problem was gone for a couple of weeks, but over the last couple of days the problem has come back. I've got back in touch with apple and await their reply. Surely they're not going to suggest another restore and then another one when the problem comes back two weeks after that?

I’ve done this repeatedly as well as all the other suggestions, nothing has resolved the issue, including the latest update. Coincidentally, my downloaded music isn’t affected as much, as he songs I purchased directly from Apple. Roughly 80/20%. I heard they were phasing out downloads entirely and were solely go to the paid Apple Music service. Their refusal to acknowledge or fix this problem would confirm the rumors

I have a 6s+ have had the same issue ever since the upgrade. I went as far as to remove every app out of my phone thinking maybe that was the problem I also tried disabling Bluetooth and changing to a different Bluetooth headset. I also have an issue where when in Bluetooth mode and on a phone call the other person will slow way down and they say i speed up like a chipmunk, or the call gets very robotic sounding, the only fix to that is to switch from the bluetooth to the phone and back again. The skipping etc happens on all my music no matter if I’m playing iTunes Store, Pandora, Amazon Music, etc. I went over this with Verizon tech-support and Apple tech-support they went so far as to send me a Refurbished phone which I mailed mine back I was happy thinking the problem with solved only to have it happen again. I don’t know what to do it’s very frustrating I am a music person I listen to music every day all day and I cannot now without the skipping and scraping sounds that is one of the main reasons why I even have an Apple iphone.
