Problems with voice during CarPlay calls since iOS 11.3

Hey everybody,

since the iOS 11.3 update, I've got problems with calls in my Seat Car. When people call me and my iPhone 7 is connected via CarPlay with my car, people hear my voice distorted/ blurred which makes it hard or impossible for them to understand mr. If my phone is connected via bluetooth, the call will work perfectly and my voice is just fine.

Does anybody have the same problem oder encountered anything similar? I would really appreciate any kind of feedback!

Thanks 🙂

Greetings, XWB!
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are having an issue with your voice to be distorted with the connection from your iPhone to your vehicle through CarPlay and I’m happy to help! I recommend taking a look at this article with steps to Set up CarPlay with your iPhone. Specifically:

Get help

If CarPlay doesn't work like you expect, here’s what you can check. After each step, try using CarPlay again.

  1. Make sure that Siri is turned on.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car. Depending on your car, you might see the CarPlay Home screen when you turn it on. If you don't, look for the CarPlay logo on your car’s display.
  3. If possible, connect your iPhone to a different USB port in your car.
  4. Try a different Lightning to USB cable. Make sure that the cable is certified.
  5. Update to the latest version of iOS.
  6. Check your car’s manual for help. You might need to install firmware updates for your stereo.

Let me know the results and have a great day!

Exactly same issue here. Using iPhone SE running iOS 11.3.1 with Carplay in Skoda Superb (2017) (connected via Apple lightning cable).

In addition to this, sometimes also playing music or podcast is disturbed. Pressing homebutton to activate and deactivate Siri will result again in a clear non-disturbed music/podcast stream.

Unfortunately this doesn’t work while making phonecalls. Only “solution” is to disconnect the lightning cable an switch to Bluetooth (and losing Carplay).

I’m pretty sure it’s a software issue...

It cannot be just software. The other day I tested the same phone you have, iPhone SE on 11.3.1 and no problems at all. I also have an iPhone 5s running on 8.4 and it has this problem... a 3 year old operating system. How come Apple cannot rub out this bug? I think it's caused by more than 1 variable... perhaps cellular firmware or headunit firmware in combination with OS firmware.

for the love of God man, don’t do any troubleshooting it is a complete waste of time. And to the person he’s talking about Bluetooth, Bluetooth has absolutely nothing to do with CarPlay it’s not even a factor. I think they talked about using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi a while ago with Volkswagen but Volkswagen never rolled it out I seem to remember seeing an ad for Mercedes that it was coming. CarPlay uses the cable only. The only fix for the sound problem is to go to the latest beta version... if you Google it you can figure out how to join the beta program it’s pretty painless. Aside from that, you can wait for the next official release. The good news about what’s happened with the beta is that not only has the strange repeating noise gone away but an echo that I never knew was there but all my friends have told me he has now disappeared has also disappeared.

Reading the posts before, the solution is to install the iOS 11.4 beta but I prefer to wait the pubblic relese. I think the CarPlay firmware update isn't the solution but if you resolve it, write us.

Leggendo i posts precedenti, l'unica soluzione è installare iOS 11.4 beta ma preferisco aspettare il rilascio ufficiale. Non credo che un aggiornamento del firmware di CarPaly risolva il problema, ma se risolvi, scrivicelo.

Although, I will mention that I am an avid user of the stock Earphones that come with the iPhone. I will have issues on a daily basis making calls with them. Similar to the car play issue, I will have to re-seat (disconnect and reconnect) the earphones from the phone in order for the other party to hear me. I can hear them fine, but they will not be able to hear me at all. I'm not sure if this is related at all to the CarPlay issues we're all having but it is worth mentioning in case its related to a much larger issue such as the known Audio IC problems that the 6 and 7 are prone to.
