Problems with voice during CarPlay calls since iOS 11.3

Hey everybody,

since the iOS 11.3 update, I've got problems with calls in my Seat Car. When people call me and my iPhone 7 is connected via CarPlay with my car, people hear my voice distorted/ blurred which makes it hard or impossible for them to understand mr. If my phone is connected via bluetooth, the call will work perfectly and my voice is just fine.

Does anybody have the same problem oder encountered anything similar? I would really appreciate any kind of feedback!

Thanks 🙂

Greetings, XWB!
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are having an issue with your voice to be distorted with the connection from your iPhone to your vehicle through CarPlay and I’m happy to help! I recommend taking a look at this article with steps to Set up CarPlay with your iPhone. Specifically:

Get help

If CarPlay doesn't work like you expect, here’s what you can check. After each step, try using CarPlay again.

  1. Make sure that Siri is turned on.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car. Depending on your car, you might see the CarPlay Home screen when you turn it on. If you don't, look for the CarPlay logo on your car’s display.
  3. If possible, connect your iPhone to a different USB port in your car.
  4. Try a different Lightning to USB cable. Make sure that the cable is certified.
  5. Update to the latest version of iOS.
  6. Check your car’s manual for help. You might need to install firmware updates for your stereo.

Let me know the results and have a great day!

Same here and its related but Apple will not admit that. They are too busy gouging us for more money to upgrade to a new phone. My relationship them is ending if the new version doesn't fix it, I have an iPhone 7+ 256GB and I have an LG V20 crap Android Phone that works flawlessly with Android Auto.

Apple can't even call me back, no warranty left and I refuse to buy another Apple product until this is fixed or acknowledged it isn't important to them.

To all Jvc and Kenwood Head unit owners with dual USB ports... Please try this and confirm that you are able to play music off your flash disk whilst flash disk is plugged in at the same time have your iphone connected to the second USB port and be able to receive and make calls without the Head unit behaving erratically

Your Feedback will be appreciated thanks

This has happened to me too in my 2016 VW Jetta. I can hear all inbound calls fine, music, texts etc. Also there is no issue with my voice and my talk to text, but when I receive or make a call...the person on the other end says it sounds like I don't have good reception or my voice is garbled. If I disconnect from Apple carplay and use the VW Bluetooth phone...everyone can hear me fine. I have cleaned out my phone, USB ports, bought new cables, etc. and still experience the same issue with my iPhone 7plus. It super ***** because I do not get all the options via my car Bluetooth that I do with the carplay. Just noticed a new software update...hopefully this will address the issue.

11.4 solves it. But it sure would be nice if Apple would put out a statement while the problem is happening and let us know it is a known issue and going to be fixed.. but instead, we all have to come into the forums, try to establish that we are not alone, Buy new cables unnecessarily, reset and restart our devices… And waste our time trying to fix something we have no way to fix. I’m glad they fixed it in 11.4,

11.4 still hasn't solved the issue for me. I'm running public release 11.4 (15F79) on iPhone 7 128GB and a 2016 VW Jetta MK6 USA.

I will try to reflash the OS on my phone later tonight and try again. I also have a different iPhone 7 that I just upgraded to 11.4 which I'll try shortly and reply.

Anyone else still having this issue after upgrading to 11.4?

Volkswagen Beetle 2016

Apple Lightning cable

iPhone 6s

iOS 11.4

Still the same problem since iOS 11.3 During every calls placed or received through CarPlay, the other person can’t hear me properly. If the phone is connected through Bluetooth (without CarPlay) everything is fine.

Had the car checked, everything is fine. It is definitely an Apple problem, an iOS problem. Before iOS 11.3 I never had a single problem with CarPlay.

Hi All,

I had a the same issue with crackling noise on the receiving end using my Iphone 7 in a VW Arteon 2018.

I sounds like an software problem with the noise cancelling failing. I soon as you speak yourself, the noise is gone.

I did the following:

I tried an Iphone 5s : works

I tried an Iphone 6: works

I tried an Iphone 7: works:

I tried an Iphone 7 plus: works

All different service providers and sim cards

Convinced it was my phone (my specific phone) I went I trying a new Iphone 7 plus. On entering my sim card. same issue again.

Then I tried my simcard in my wifes Iphone 6: and suprisingly It was bad too.

How on earth can the simcard be an issue here? I cleaned my simcard using contact spray, placed it back in my 7. Gone was the problem. It took me a week to get here.

I am still somewhat surprised. What also can be the case. I have read on other forums that specific providers might have issues. So the answer in my case might be eighter the simcard itself making a bad connection. Or more likely: by chaning the simcard you force your phone updating the service provider settings, whilst setting things right.

I am still in a bit in disbelieve that this is what sorts out the problem. I will be testing more next week. This is what I did. Maybe it helps for some of you too.

Good Luck!
