iPhone speaker greyed out

Just want to say that I had been delaying the update to 11.3 and my button greyed out. I tried resetting and updating the software and still nothing. Don't believe it's the new software though.

Dear all!
If you are having the same problem as disscussed above, please find a professional iPhone repair store and ask them to check the audio IC, it’s a tiny little chip on the mother board.
I got my iPhone 7 Plus audio IC replaced today for ¥400 (around US$60), and the problem is solved! All phone functions back to normal, phone calls normal, voice memo working, etc.
Tips: If your phone is still under warranty, please search help from Apple Store. If not, get the audio IC checked, and most likely it will work for you as well.
Again, this is not a software problem, it’s the hardware issue, another new update won’t fix it!

What were the symptoms on your phone, and did these steps correct them?
We have the same issue and the reps at the genius bar in the domain store in Austin, TX said we would have to buy a new phone. What store (city / state) did they replace this at for you?
Was anyone able to solve this issue? It happened to my iPhone 7 since the last iOS update. Took it to an apple store and they charge 400 to fix it. I guess it’s time to say goodbye to apple

My speaker is greyed out as well and I can’t receive or send phone calls. I could use my Bluetooth but not the actual phone. Can someone please help me
Unfortunately I have upgraded it to IOS 12 and still no luck :( thanks for the advice though!
Same - I’ve also upgraded to 12 with no results. You’re telling me the best Apple can do is charge $320 for a dated device that they don’t even stand behind? Very upsetting.
Same here! I’m now a proud owner of a non-apple phone. They are going to become another Spirit air eventually...
Apple is fooling it customers if they have knowledge about the issue y it is selling phones in market as it should replace the phone in the market
I think this should be another class action. Apple is clearly being shady.

They removed a comment posting about a possible class action on the issue. They said it wasn’t constructive. Well, their customer service hasn’t been constructive.
