[Problem Solved]

Dear all!

If you are having the same problem as disscussed above, please find a professional iPhone repair store and ask them to check the audio IC, it’s a tiny little chip on the mother board.

I got my iPhone 7 Plus audio IC replaced today for ¥400 (around US$60), and the problem is solved! All phone functions back to normal, phone calls normal, voice memo working, etc.

Tips: If your phone is still under warranty, please search help from Apple Store. If not, get the audio IC checked, and most likely it will work for you as well.

Again, this is not a software problem, it’s the hardware issue, another new update won’t fix it!

Update, after weeks of trial & error & every tec trying their own methods to reset phone & restore & factory store, finally spoke with a supervisor. Told him to check my phone history with ime number & to find if I HAD ANY ISSUES BEFORE. Then I also told him to see forbes news on google & to check this forum & he knew what was going on so he said he will replace the phone. This 7plus is only 14 months old. I am going to wait for my Genies appointment & then see what happens this week. i have been without a phone for 3 weeks now living on text. Each time a reboot is done either I loose text or frozen phone or I cant use wifi. Hope these issues gets resolved soon. Network connection is horrible as well now.

My iphone 7+ was replaced finally on 4th. While apple had approved teh handset replacement. The instore tec was being arrogant saying its your speaker issue & that I should have just repaired this. and that its not apples issue. I told him I had all the time as I had been without phone for a mth and was in canada for vacation. That I could have him go on blogs & Forbes to view this same issue with the same issue with the rest of IP 7+ users.

He then brought the phone handed it & erased my old phones data & walked away. I will be replacing iphone to samsung 9+

I have a bitter taste with Apple TEC'S in store, seems liek on line ppl are more understanding without seeing you physically to make judgment.

how are everyone getting on with this issue, my sons developed the same problem recently. i contacted apple who have said that i will have to pay for a repair, which im not willing to do, especially after having an issue with a brand new iphoneX which they took over 10 months to resolve.

I've just sent another email after reading that it seems to be a well know wide spread problem..im waiting for their reply

I'm facing the same issue on my iPhone7 Plus. Never had any problems past 2yrs. Issue started after upgrading to iOS 12 few weeks back (and beyond). Initially, i was able to make a call and had disruption in between (like black out with no voice). Now there is no mic/speaker right from start of the call (WA calls/FT/Memos doesn't work either). Had support chat, visited the service centre (s) and had a long call - all of no avail. Support guys act clueless but my sense is they know it as a known issue at their end but fear to admit (could be guidelines from HQ). It requires complete motherboard change which apple won't do - meaning replace the phone. I'm asked to pay out of pocket INR 33K for a replacement which is about 80% of the price i paid for my new iP7+ nearly 2yrs ago. Surely, i'm not keen. This is a forced upgrade on consumers. Not sure how other people have got the replacement (at least a few reported in the thread). It is not working out here in Gurgaon (India). If apple is listening, this is bringing a bad name. If this is a known problem, apple should be kind enough to offer FOC replacement. This is only going to increase their customer loyalty.

I had the same problem I followed all the dianogstics. It all started after I updated. Still didn’t resolve the problem, and when I opened voice memo it said no audio recording device is detected. I went to the apple store and they charged me 320+ tax for the out of warranty replacement. I bought the iPhone in September of 2016. The tech stated that the motherboard probably has issues and since it’s out of warranty it would have to be replaced at the cost. And now I see that the problem is not with just my phone. Forced to pay for the same phone and will probably happen again.

Hi guys, Apple replaced my out of guaranty phone for free, making the story short, they told me there is a HW issue with some microphone/speakers that started to show up on 11.3. The only thing they did was run the diagnostics and double check the phone didn't have any kind of physical or water damage, as it is a faulty component, it was replaced by a new phone for free.

I chatted with a senior advisor at apple and they are in full denial of the situation regarding the grayed-out speaker problem. I also spoke to a couple of independent iPhone repair shops and they are all aware of this same iPhone7 problem. Also, I was told by someone who sells phones at a major carrier, that they see that problem with the 7 but regardless, the iPhone is still a much better quality phone than any of the Android phones sold which all have problems. For apple, it is a problem but not a big enough problem to fix. You can fix or buy a new phone. I opted for a new phone and will fix this one ($90) and keep as a back up for when my kids lose another phone.

Here are some excerpts from the chat:

Doug (Sr. Advisor) - If this was a known issue, we would have initiated some type of replacement program for this, and I can guarantee you that we would have investigated this right after hearing any claims of this.

Doug - The Apple Discussions Forum and other forums are a great place to find answers to symptoms, but with millions of devices on the market, the symptoms you are experiencing may not have the same solutions to it or causes.

I have the same problem, post update. When i called apple I was told to goto an apple store ware I was informed that this was a wide issue after the new update . They the informed me that I would need to pay $300 to get the phone repaired. I myself find this insane ! The company basically ruined my phone and now is requesting i pay them to fix it.

it would just cost me $450 with Apple to get two new iPhone sevens because of this exact reason, but I can tell you a useful piece of information that they shared with me, if you buy a cheap pair of Bluetooth earphones your phone will work perfectly fine but they have to be Bluetooth. I have to wonder if this was an excellent way to get Apple to introduce their new Bluetooth earphones for $200 a pop

Just had my daughter's iPhone 7 Plus with the same issue fixed. We noticed the problem after she started using Air Pods.

It was easy to fix it, we did a hardware reset, on the 7 Plus you have to press the power button and volume down simultaneously, power button first. Than you hold both pressed, the phone will turn it off and as soon as you see the apple logo you can release.

We did it and issue was fixed, it looks its a glitch between 7 Plus and Air Pod 1st gen.

Good luck!
