Hi Chris

Another thing I have picked up is that there is no sound from the speaker when I make any call, and the person can't here me on the other side as well. I can make calls thru my vehicle's stereo via Bluetooth but the speaker is still greyed out even though both parties can here each other as normal.

Also does not pick up a headset when connected.

Itunes music and videos received thru whatsapp works fine thru speaker.

Regards,

Leon

I had the same problem and solved it easily with soft reset.

With the screen of your iPhone XS or XR off do this:

  1. Press Volume Up, then release that button
  2. Press Volume Down, then release that button
  3. Press and hold down the Power / Lock button on the right side of iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS, iPhone XR
  4. Keep holding the Power / Lock button until you see an  Apple logo appear on the display of iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS, or iPhone Xr

Same error two iPhones 7 and I have prove they know the error and now they said they can’t fixed it give me a new phone because is not under warranty. So are they obligating me to buy anew phone? Unbelievable!!! After so many years of being a great customer I will never buy an iPhone again and I won’t keep quiet.

There is no use my friend they know well enough what is causing that audio issue, they do all of that just to buy time, as this is a hardware problem, best case they’ll take your phone off you and hand you a replacement so make sure you’ve got you backup before you go there, I fixed two of them yesterday 7 and a 7plus both with no audio sound, microphone or proximity, it’s the audio Chip, in my opinion Apple should take responsibility of this because just like the 6 and the 6plus have this special problem commonly known as the TOUCH DISEASE, it’s the exact problem that the 7 and 7plus have as well and soon it’s going to be very common and I believe their solution will be a 5 year program to fix it or replace your device just like they’ve done now with the 6plus’s

....and then the proximity sensor began glitching and my phone would go black randomly while on YouTube or just scrolling through fb. After that the mic was completely unusable no voice during phone calls, no voice memos, no voice text, no Siri. Then shortly after that the headphones jack wouldn’t let you play music outload with your phone on the charger then it wouldn’t play music through headphones a day later. After researching and going into a couple different stores I will either need to get my audio IC chip replaced or completely replace or upgrade my iphone. (I kinda think Apple is throughing glitches into old phones so that people will upgrade)

Has anyone found a solution to this yet? I'm running into the same problems after updating to 11.3.1 yesterday. My speaker is grayed out, i cant hear anything on phone calls, cant connect to facetime, cant record voice memos, if i record a video there's no sound. But my sound works just fine for everything else (music, old videos, etc).

This exact problem happened to me this past weekend (5/20/18), after updating my iOS.

I made a genius appointment at the store and the guy that helped me was already aware of this issue. Apple are replacing phones that have this problem, no questions asked. I'm way over my two year warranty and walked out with a working phone after 30 mins.

Same here, exact same problem with my iphone7.

The first time I took it to the store (5/15/18) the problem had disappeared when I got there, very frustrating, so I walked out without a solution. It did come back though a couple of days later, and today I was back in the store, no sound and speaker greyed out. They were aware of the issue and replaced my phone, just out of warranty, but still in warranty at the time I first reported it. Phew!

Just wondering whether I can safely restore from my backup, or better set up as new? If it is a hardware issue, surely my brand new phone is not going to be affected...?

Same. My husband’s 7+ started with this exact problem 1 week before mine did. We’ve been to the Apple Store and wasted 2 hours. No solution. On the phone with Logan(my husband left him numerous voice messages and emails asking for a solution, he fails to reply anymore. Hi Logan, hope you’re reading this!) and Alex today who was dismissive and focused on how the phones were out of warranty and we’d have to pay for the repair. Very irresponsible of them, no solution and deny deny deny. Really silly since it’s after the iOS 13.1 update that ruined our phones. Last Apple product I’ll buy again. Apple refuses to make it right

This happened to me as well. It is an issue with the most recent update and they're aware of the issue. After spending an hour on the phone with apple support (where they tried to insist it was a hardware problem) they eventually instructed me to get a genius bar appointment. WHICH THERE AREN'T ANY AVAILABLE FOR AT LEAST A WEEK (which is a huge problem in my opinion). So I had to go yesterday and try to get a walk in. 4 hours later I walked out with a new phone.

unfortunately they said the engineers are aware of the problem but there isn't a new update and you're going to have to replace your phone. But you won't pay for it at least.
