[Problem Solved]

Dear all!

If you are having the same problem as disscussed above, please find a professional iPhone repair store and ask them to check the audio IC, it’s a tiny little chip on the mother board.

I got my iPhone 7 Plus audio IC replaced today for ¥400 (around US$60), and the problem is solved! All phone functions back to normal, phone calls normal, voice memo working, etc.

Tips: If your phone is still under warranty, please search help from Apple Store. If not, get the audio IC checked, and most likely it will work for you as well.

Again, this is not a software problem, it’s the hardware issue, another new update won’t fix it!

This happened to me as well. It is an issue with the most recent update and they're aware of the issue. After spending an hour on the phone with apple support (where they tried to insist it was a hardware problem) they eventually instructed me to get a genius bar appointment. WHICH THERE AREN'T ANY AVAILABLE FOR AT LEAST A WEEK (which is a huge problem in my opinion). So I had to go yesterday and try to get a walk in. 4 hours later I walked out with a new phone.

unfortunately they said the engineers are aware of the problem but there isn't a new update and you're going to have to replace your phone. But you won't pay for it at least.

Thank you @tylerswire. Great collection of articles on this problem. My son's iPhone 7 ran into this problem a few weeks ago. Now upgraded to iOS 12 Beta 4 and no difference. I believe we all have the documented "Loop Disease" and as these many articles point out, it's an hardware issue not software. The Voice Memo app gives a clear message "No audio devices found".

I will try to open a Genius Bar incident, but since the phone is now out of warranty, and it appears Apple has stopped any further out-of-warranty repairs on this I assume I will get hit up on the $319 repair quote as well..

Has anyone been successful with a 3rd party resolution with the re-soldering of the audio chip? Since the iPhone 7 can run iOS 12 still a decent $50 investment for a little additional life if Apple will no longer recognize this as a manufacturing problem..

My wife's 7plus is now having this problem. It is being called the "Loop disease". I took her phone into Apple store and they want $350 to repair this. This is a known problem and is similar to the problem with the baseband chip. Basically, fatigue causes the balls (connections) on the audio IC to disconnect from the PCB (printed circuit board).

This one has class action lawsuit written all over it.

Hopefully, I don't jinx myself but I finally got my phone working again with all of my settings. Setting up from scratch made my phone work again but it was wiped clean. At least this confirmed it was not hardware as tech support wanted to confirm. I restored from backup multiple times using two different logins with the same issue on both. Finally, I restored from backup but changed every setting possible(disable location services, siri, touch id, apple pay, etc.). After that install, I could record using Voice Memos and hear them. Then I found that when I enabled location services, my bluetooth watch was showing never to allow location services on the first page but always on the next screen. I made them match, tried another call, and it worked. It is still restoring from backup and hopefully something else doesn't load killing my calls but at least this far it is working!!!

I have similar problem. Monday suddenly the speaker greyed out. i went to the the apple store here in Melbourne Australia and the staff said it is a known hardware issue. She mentioned that since i am out of warranty (6 months pass) i have to pay 400 AUD for the replacement. APPALLING!!!! This is a known hardware issue as they admitted and not the first time they saw as she mentioned, yet they have the gall to charge the customer. She is apologetic though but on the store level that is all they can do. She advised I escalate only. I raise a complaint through apple support and hopefully get an answer. Pls do note my phone still look good as new!!!!
