Hi there,

My iphone 7plus has the same problem after updating to 11.3 last week.

I connected my phone to Bluetooth earphone once, and after that my phone cannot make any calls. The speaker option is grey and cannot hear any sound.

Music and videos are fine through the speaker.

Voice memo not working.(red record button grey out)

I can only make calls through Bluetooth earphone connected now.

I have the same issue, and iOS 12 doesn't solve it. But when I restart my phone, I can make calls for a short time and then this problem is back. So before every call I have to restart the phone. I'm sure it isn't hardware problem, because if it was - the mic and the speakers wouldn't work at all. Does anyone have a solution about this issue?

I am having the exact same issue. Greyed out speaker option and record button in memo app.

Bluetooth headset works fine. Normal headset is not recognised. Charging works fine.

Apple says they cannot help me.

One of their partners says its a known issue and only Apple can fix it. So. What do I do?

I am not 100% convinced it is not at least partly hardware related, even though I also got the problem after updating software.

Has anyone tried replacing the microphone and/or the lightning connector?

I have faced the similar issue on Aug 11 and worked with Apple remote support to restore the phone as well as reset network settings. This did not fix the issue and I was setup a genius bar appointment. Apple reps told me this is a known issue that occurs on some iPhone 7 and 7+ and it cannot be repaired. The only solution is phone replacement, Becuase my phone is out of warranty I will have to pay $349 + tax for a replacement. I spoke to a supervisor as well and was told there is not much they can do as they have been instructed by Apple it is a hardware problem. This was a little upsetting but I had no choice but to pay up and get a working phone. I am not very sure, what our options are at this moment. A software upgrade should not kill a working phone.

I am so frustrated. This started happening to me while on vacation in New York a couple of days ago. When I returned home I found this thread and yesterday I went to the Apple Store. The Genuis Bar ran system checks and told me that I will need to get a new phone and the charge was $350. I didn’t have time to stand there and argue as I was late for an appt. Very frustrating. Will be calling Apple to see if I can get a different solution. Anyone have an idea on how to best approach it?

The issue has nothing to do with Bluetooth, the speaker works with Bluetooth. I have the same issues specifically on each point that Chris_g1 has and many others from what I am reading. I have done all the restores etc. very frustrating, I do believe that after nearly 15 years I'm going to a different system and carrier. No more Mac/Apple, very disappointed.

Same problem is happening for me as well, speaker phone button is greyed out. At first I went to the apple store because my phone was freezing, this was when I was still on the IOS 10 update. The person at the apple genius bar updates my phone to the newest IOS 11.4 and when someone tried to call my later that day the speaker phone button was greyed out. Soon figured out when I recorded things there’d be no sound. Took it to the apple store and waited 3 hours for them to tell me it was an audio issue and that it’d be $319 to fix. Told them no thanks and took it to someone outside of the “apple” name to see if they could fix it for cheaper assuming apple was right and it was my fault. Nope. Person tells me that it’s because of the new update and there’s nothing I can do but wait. Apparently when this first started 6-7 people would come into his store daily to try and get their phone fixed. If so many people are having problems Apple needs to fix this because it’s on them. I really held out hope for them, but not I’m not so sure anymore.

Happens to the the other day I thought my phone just broke but after getting into the car I could hear my phone calls I googled it and this came up. Went to Apple the next day with my 9week old baby stood there for ages to be seen for the guy to blatantly lie to my face and say its just broken and they can’t fix it and I would have to pay around £200 for a new phone I told him about the update and he completely changed his way of speaking and said he needed to go speak to his colleague who said Apple are bringing out a new update. I asked when and then a manager overheard our conversation came running and said no this is not true we haven’t been told there is an update that will fix the phone I would just advise you to get a new one. I then got ****** bc your expecting me to to buy another iPhone when Apple broke mine. I also said some people got their phones replaced but they refused and said when they opened up the phones it wasn’t an issue with the phone due to them.

What I do not understand what this apple forum is for, I see that every day there will be a post about this situation and I do not see apple doing anything.

the question is when the new version is supposed to come out, the problem is fixed, the clients who have already paid for the repair or paid the insurance, apple will return the money.

I had this happen to both my wife's and daughter's phone. We took my daughter's phone in to the Apple store in early July, they confirmed it was a known issue and gave her a new phone, no questions asked. Today my wife took her phone in and they tell her that it's not an issue and the only way to fix it is to buy a new phone for $319. So a month ago it was an issue, now it's not?? What a crock of crap Apple!!! What kind of customer service is that? I spend $700 on the phones and then you want me to buy another one for $319 for a problem you know your IOS upgrade caused? I'm beyond mad right now.

Went in today twice - first they asked me to pay $319 for a replacement, second time I said I felt that it was apples defect and That they should replace the phone and was told that they had taken some of the defective phones in for “research” and that the issue was caused by customers “dropping it too much” which honestly felt pretty rude that they are trying to push this issue off as a customer error
